From 30 August to 3 September 2028, Saalfelden Leogang will once again become the global epicenter of mountain biking. So far, officially confirmed are races in the disciplines Downhill, XCO, XCC and E-MTB. Whether additional disciplines will be included in the program is currently not yet confirmed.

bigquotesWe are thrilled that the World Champs 2028 will once again be hosted by us in Saalfelden Leogang. The World Champs 2020 was a complete success for Saalfelden Leogang and its region and the fact that we got chosen again, confirms our successful work. We are once again delighted to welcome both the mountain bike pros and the fans for these World Championships. This has great charisma for mountain biking in the region and beyond to all of Austria as well as internationally.Marco Pointner, World Championships organizer and CEO of Saalfelden Leogang Tourism

bigquotesThe UCI's decision confirms the investments and work we have been doing here for more than 20 years. We want to continue to develop our bike park together with the scene and the world's best athletes and have been able to hold two successful World Championships and countless World Cups so far. Even though there are still a few years to go, we are already looking forward to the next big mountain bike highlight at Epic Bikepark Leogang.Kornel Grundner, World Championships organizer and managing director of Leoganger Bergbahnen

All other UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in the coming years will take place in Scotland (2023), Vallnord (Andorra, 2024), Valais (SUI, 2025), Val di Sole (ITA, 2026), Haute Savoie (FRA, 2027).

The fact that the 2028 World Championships will once again be held in Saalfelden Leogang also offers the reigning World Champion of 2022 and local hero Valentina Höll a new opportunity to win the home World Championships:

bigquotesI am incredibly pleased that Leogang has been given the 2028 World Championships. There will certainly be a lot going on again for us bikers in terms of infrastructure, and I'm already very excited about that. In six years I'll be 26 years old and at the perfect downhill age. Until then, I will hopefully manage to get down a run at home without crashing. I'm really looking forward to it.Vali Höll, DH World Champion

Glad to see the Vali Höll automatic quotation generator bot is firing on all cylinders.

Can't wait for Austria's future ex sports minister and Winter Olympics gold medal winner discredit Vali's winning race due to home turf advantage!

That quote, even with context, is kind of hilarious and out of left field. She must be the only athlete the UCI could get to answer their calls. Or, I suspect, the UCI or whomever just typed up a quote and submitted it under her name. Lazy writing.

@cgreaseman: Yes, that kind of thing is not uncommon in the world of media relations (I'm a journo), but in this case we can clearly tell it's Vali's quote. It'd take a very brave PR person to make up that bit about her crashing all the time.

@chakaping: True. It's possible they just picked that part up from a different quote of hers. Regardless, it reads with a heavy editing hand.

Should we pencil in 2036 and 2044 too?

This is so far in the future, I'm willing to bet that Jackson Goldstone will become the oldest World Champ in history at this very event.

World champs was the only event that ventured outside europe/NA, seems like we won't see that again at least until 2029...
Also it would be nice to know all next year world cup venues before , but who am I to question the allmighty UCI...
  • 2 0
There's a dull inevitability about the venues being announced isn't there?
We'd all love to see a World Champs in South America, Asia or even Africa (not SA) - the riders would love a change, but it all comes down to funding formulas and $$$.

This is sad…they should do something to have world champs on each continent by rotation. FIFA did something similar…I understand that both organizations (FIFA & UCI) are corrupted but at least FIFA is trying to grow and make football popular on all continents.
