While Hayes are great brakes, I’d argue the build quality is not all that good, the finish on the caliper and the hard wear is all pretty poor in my opinion. The power and feel is insane but the build quality is just not up to scratch for the price that they retail at here in the UK.

@AshbyDude: Yeah they're both Pon brands so it makes sense to ride a V10 as it is the only downhill bike in their roster now that GT is no more

From what I can remember what made the EWS so interesting to begin with was that it was races from multiple series that had different approaches to this. It meant people had to be good at both racing blind and reading after multiple practice laps.

@mikekazimer: This is great news! Can't wait to see what you can do with that and really looking forward to some of the outcomes, and if you can elaborate at this point, what sort of stuff are you planning on testing?

THIS! The same can be said for a lot of different things in the cycling world. Tyre companies should give us the actual hardness of different compounds, brake companies should tell us exactly how much mechanical and hydraulic leverage is produced (at different reach measurements too), knee pad companies should tell you exactly how much they absorb impacts, handlebar and rim companies should give us some actual raw data in relation to compliance, etc etc. And if the companies won't do it, the reviewers and journalists should be doing these tests themselves. So far enduro magazine and bikerumor are the only two that I have seen actually do anything along these lines. It's a shame that pinkbike never really do this because it would be incredibly useful for consumers, especially alongside the seemingly pretty good reviews that they are doing these days

@rocky-x: I saw a bunch (maybe 2 or 3?) being ridden down pleney last summer in morzine. Lovely looking things. As are Ben Walker’s Scott Gamblers with steel front ends that can often be seen around there

I’d be more intrigued to see what they’re like with a Maven lever, as it might solve some of the alleged issues with both systems

@Hectorres2001: I mean downhill helmets are getting bigger anyway, just look at the current offerings from Bell, Giro, and 6D. It seems like these are all gaining traction more than any other helmet, and there’s been a general move towards more moto-influenced gear over the past couple of years
