Pinkbike Poll: How Far Are You Willing to Drive to a Bike Park?
I’m also a snowboarder, so I already spend enough money and time driving to ride lifts. The summers are a bit of a respite from that. Granted, I’m lucky to live in a place with decent trails I can ride from my garage, and a bunch of awesome (free!) riding areas within 45 minutes drive of my home. Do I occasionally drive 3-4 hours to go ride somewhere especially awesome? Sure, but I’m not doing that to sit on a lift.

Review: 7iDP's New Project 21 Open Face Helmet
@theboypanda: I really like my Forefront 2, my single solitary gripe with it is that too many of the vents are full of Koroyd, and mean that it's not exactly the coolest helmet on really hot days. It's also annoying when you've got an itch on your head and have to take the helmet off to get at it, rather than just grubbing through the vent. I know that's a minor gripe, and I know that their lower-end helmets actually have more open vents, but I really wish that they'd open the vents on the FF2 more.

15 Race Bikes from Red Bull Hardline 2024
@spaced: Many companies (in all industries) rely on VC money to get up and started. Taking a loan from a rich uncle to start a mom and pop bike shop could be considered "venture capital." Private equity firms are profit-seeking entities that buy up existing businesses and squeeze them dry for every ounce of profitability. Generally these firms are operated by people who have no concept of how the businesses they have purchased operate (see, Spanfeller, Jim and the Gawker/Deadspin debacle) and end up cratering their reputation and legitimacy along with their profit margins.

Video: How to Buy a Value Bike in 2024
Make a serious decision and purchase a decent bike, then ride it for a very long time. I know we're all dazzled by the new bling, but for the most part, bikes haven't made giant leaps forward in terms of performance or technology in the last 5 years. Yes, some standards have changed, and that's certainly frustrating, what with the spectre of planned obsolescence looming a la Apple, but truthfully, if you're spending $4000 on a mountain bike these days, you can be relatively assured of it not only being good and fun, but having some staying power. Even our commenter quibbles like headset tourism or pressfit BB's aren't so much legitimate problems as minor inconveniences. The bikes are still going to ride well, and as long as you take care of them, they can last for a long time.

First Look: 2024 Lapierre Zesty - All New, All Mountain
Congratulations. You've made a Stumpjumper Evo with a worse suspension layout, pressfit, and headset cable routing. Pass. Get a Stumpy.

Video: Welcome to Pinkbike's 2024 Value MTB Field Test
@xciscool: Because that's what 90% of people who buy a trail bike ride. I'm not saying that's a bad thing at all! I'd describe all of my rides as at least partially xc. In my mind a trail bike should be able to hang with xc bikes on the climbs and flats (or at least not get completely dusted), and outpace them on the downhills, while having enough travel to plow through the occasional rock garden or send the occasional huck that wouldn't be possible with a down/cross country bike. This ain't that. If I'm going to pedal a 36lb slug around, give me at least 20mm more travel front and rear, and make sure that the climbs are smooth and the descents are rowdy.

@xciscool: Having a burly build is fine, and I'm not saying that the Habit is a bike I'd want, I'm just saying that the Jeffsy is a tank compared to bikes that it's supposed to be competing with. It's not an enduro bike, it's a 140mm trail bike. 36 lbs is about 3.5 pounds too much for a bike that's probably going to be ridden by most people as an overly capable xc bike.

Everybody seems to be pumping up the YT, but it's a 36lb trail bike. That thing is a tank. Add to it YT's nonexistent customer service/support/warranty and I'd be very skeptical.
