Sam pilgrim - how i see it
Maybe you like?

I love how lots of guys build out these ridiculous compounds with nice carpentry and flowers and sh*t... Pilgrim's just like, 'screw it, some 2x4's a few cheap sheets of particle board and some shady scaffold... done'.
- - 84
Yeah, some people take pride in their work. Others have shitty riding spots. The above setup lacks effort and looks like a garbage dump. Sam is a decent rider, but those jumps are fucking ghetto. As a trail builder, I am ashamed of shit like this. Maybe he should just stick with using his van as a ramp. Hahahahaha.
- + 9
ridding bikes is supposed to be fun bro if your jumps look sick or looks like ass the only thing that matters is the flow of the trail yea we all love crisp jumps and dialed skate parks but why care his jumps work great and u would love to have them in your back yard like every one else. not eery one is a girl who get pissy when the flowers arnt in order and you dont need to be ether bro
- - 27
PS, it's also unsafe and lacks sustainability.
Semenuk at least knows he doesn't have time for that shit and hired the intern to maintain his trails.

it seems pretty safe as far as jumps can go the landings are groomed the take offs are wood so they require minimal up keep. also that place is always getting rained on making it worthless to try and pretty up because of erosion.
and as a side note these jumps have been a part of sam being were he his now so i think he knows what hes doing
- + 1
dude im not being funny or nothing but i would like to see you go out build some jumps and do some big bad-ass tricks like Sam !!! his jumps may not look the best or even ride the best but you got to remember these are some local mess around jumps not crank works or nothing... and look at the tricks he is landing you don't need the best jumps to throw out the best tricks as Sam proves with the windshield wiper great work dude keep it up !!!!!

I'd be more worried about trying to climb up that ladder then hitting any of the jumps , that ladder is beyond ghetto
- - 12
But the ladder definitely gives it that garbage dump feel that all the kiddies seem to love so much. *Sigh*... The trail scene is dying because people are lazy.
- - 5
Between that and everybody wants to be "street" and when they learn they suck at it on MTB , they go to bmx , then they get bored of bmx and quit , I see it all the time
- - 3
recklessness im just going to say what every one else is thinking your a belend and you have nothing good to say about any thing so why don't you go build some perfect dirt jump you little key board worrier !!!!!!!!
- + 5
never heard of a worrier but i think reck is more of a warrior tbh
his trails are so lush
And No fat chicks , near them also
- + 4
Dude recklessness all you do is complain about people. Bikings about having fun dude just chill out and go bike
- - 7
he doesnt normally complain about anything , he makes a valid point , sure jumps are there to be fun , but its also a lot better or a jump when you take the time to do it right, and it makes you proud to say i have this amazing jump line that looks fantastic.
biking is also more then trying to defend your fav pro riders jumps , you know anything you guys say can be turned the same way on yourself

He's always travelling- not easy to maintain jumps when you're on the other side of the planet. Scaffold and wood can be left until he returns to UK soil. It's hilarious that some dick in Canada is so upset over a muddy field in Blighty! Ha ha ha
- - 4
Like I said, Brandon Semenuk hired The Intern to live at his house and maintain his trails because he was smart enough to realize that he doesn't have time to maintain his backyard with his traveling schedule. Sam Pilgrim easily wins the same amount of contests and therefore the same amount of novelty sized cheques as Brandon. He just chooses to ride a garbage dump compound and spend his money elsewhere. That's cool, and his decision to make, but it makes for a pretty haggard looking set of unsafe jumps. In the time it took me to type this, his ladder rotted. LOL. Considering the UK has such a phenomenal, top notch trail scene, it's sad to see lazy half-assed shit like this. It's even more sad to see people stick up for it. *sigh #2*
On the brighter side, at least there were no fat chicks at his trails. He's at least got that dialed.
If Sam wants to fly me out there and hire me full time, I would be happy to give them a makeover and make them into something pristine and safe that is actually worth filming and not a shameful eyesore. Only problem is, if he can't afford a ladder, he probably can't afford my time.

Calm down man, if he's happy with his jumps let him be happy. There's no need for you to be worrying. Just let him be the LAD he is
- - 4
I am perfectly calm thanks.
The other problem here is that Sam is also a role model for a lot of you kiddies. It sets a bad example of work ethic and helps to kill the art of trail building because you all think think this is cool as hell. Based on the amount of kids that came out of the woodworks to support his dump, and based on several of the above comments, I can safely say that at this rate, all you kids will have to ride some day is skate parks and garbage dumps. Places like Chicksands, Woburn, Wisley, Chertsey, etc, will continue to die off due to laziness and lack of interest.
I know it's tough to hear me criticizing your favorite pro rider's jumps, but try to look at it objectively.... instead of from on top of his dick. Thanks for all of your intellectual feedback on the matter guys, it's at least been eye opening.
- - 4
They look fine the me. Sure The wood looks rotty and there a bunch of plywood covering the trail but did you ever think that it's muddy as sh*t in this video? I agree the ladder looks sketchy. And it's not like the first this he would think of is to hire a maintenance guy. That's money out of his wallet. They look safe enough and good to ride, And he rides them pretty damn well.
- + 6
Dude he can't buy a ladder. He's obviously saving for a new tooth and another giant ramp to toss in his van.
Stoked that his portable ramp to grass bank edit had less sketch going on than this.
- + 2
If I was you Reckhead I'd thank God I'm canadian- if you lived here you may well have had your teeth knocked too out by now!! You're asking us to look at it objectively when I haven't read a statement more subjective than yours! I would prefer kids to follow Pilgrim than the footballers and 'musicians' they currently worship. He's an idividual and we should love him for it, not try and get him to conform to our own values. Get over it mate.
- - 4
Do you even know Sam personally, or are you just threatening me on behalf of a complete stranger? I am just trying to figure out to what degree you are taking this too seriously. Why is this so emotional for you? To be honest, your misplaced heroism is actually quite funny. Anything else you would like to add tough guy? LOL.
E-THUGGGGGGGGGINNNNNNNNNNN'. U B E-THUGGIN'. U SO HARD ON THE INTERNET.

Gavlaa's first comment is right. Recklessness, you are so lucky to be Canadian because you actually have decent land to build trails on. I live in a small town and the only place where we had jumps got knocked down last year. My friend and I are currently building a step up so we have something we can actually ride. Not everyone is stuck up their own arse, lazy and doesn't want to build. I'm 15 and I for one find building quite fun. Sam Pilgrim is one my idols and I look up to him but that hasn't had an effect on how I want my jumps to look.
- - 1
Don't suddenly think we're lucky and that Canada is just full of places for jumps. I've had a few little sets knocked down. Happens here just as much, because we have a massive dirtbike and ATV scene. Past that, you guys have way better weather for it. Don't even compare. Most years your side of the pond can build all year and just maim shit. That's why some of the (if not the nicest) trails in the world are over there.
Sam is an ambassador to the sport. People look up to him. When he decides to skip trying to promote the sport he's rather doing the entire sport and his sponsors a disservice. Think of what an opportunity he likely has, and how much he probably cares cause he's busy doing the party chav life.
Absolutely love the kids coming out of the woodwork to defend something that's obviously a shame. Be realistic. The set is disgusting and it got called out. He can be your hero as much as you want, that doesn't change water into wine.
How about you just take it for what it is, realize that yes, his set is pathetic and he could do something a lot nicer, and move on. We're only calling him lazy, not trying to stab his eyes out.

As long as it's rideable, it's a good set.
You are lucky you live in Canada because biking is massive over there. You actually have places to build as well as bike parks and a load of skateparks with enough room to ride. We have a few 'big' skateparks with no room to ride a BMX let alone a MTB. Plus i'm not saying that you wont have trails knocked down just because you live in Canada because that happens everywhere, i'm just saying it's a lot more likely to happen here.
- - 5
Massively disagree there, but that's only because I have some sense of standards.
And again, stop pulling up this "YOU'RE SO LUCKY" crap. BC has a lot of MTB venues, yes. I live in Ontario. We have snow down for 6 months of the year, and then nothing special all summer. Nothing makes living here any better for bikes other than the fact that we'll build for ourselves instead of idolizing lazy riders.
As far as I know, the MX and ATV scene here and yours aren't even in the same league. I'd be willing to bet our trails get knocked down just as fast (if not faster) because we have so many more trail users that aren't bikers.
Stop making excuses to stand up for a crap set. It's a crap set.

I live in a different section of Ontario then sherb or reck , I have to drive 30-40 mins for the closest skate park , I have no good street spots , and the township nocks down our jumps everywhere I go , we now found a spot they don't know about yet and as the jumps may not be as big as Sam pilgrims , but they are neat and tidy , and smooth and get bigger every day , even if he maitanced it once a week it would be alot nicer , even buy a 50 dollar ladder would be a start.
Building is a big part of riding , if you don't build you don't ride in Ontario , every Ontario rider knows this , and this is why you see all these nice and tidy jump lines , Because we work at them , and don't say we have prime conditions , in the summer it gets way to dry and in the winter there's way too much snow.
If we can find the time to build and maitance jumps on top of us working , or going to school I can't see why pilgrim can't ?

He does maintain them? The only thing wrong is the 'ladder' which he has. The only reason that they look so bad is because of the weather, watch some of his other videos and they look so much better.
But still, biking is actually liked in Canada! People call the police on me and my friends if we are just riding through a certain part of town. Dog walkers used to leave bags full of dog sh*t in the trees next to and on our jumps. Our weather isn't the best either, we have a summer of rain with the odd few days/week of sunshine and then a winter of heavier rain.
I can't be bothered to argue anymore because this won't change anything.

Reckhead- I just think you take your opinion way too far- I didn't at any point say I would personally be the one to remove your teeth, my point was if you came here with a gob like yours I don't think it would take too long before someone stood up to the plate!! I ain't the violent type- I don't fight with fists- I fight with my keyboard :-)
- - 6
So what you are saying is that all of your comments have been a waste of typing? Gotcha.
Silly e-thug.
Silly e-thug.
- - 5
If this is how you find fulfillment, I don't envy you at all. That's just sad bro. What is your e-superhero name? I would assume gavlaa is your civilian name, kinda like Clark Kent.
- - 5
I don't think they could reach your teeth personally , even if they did some superhero run jump punch
- + 2
No my friend that is one of the many ways in which fulfillment finds me. I do nothing- spastics just want to communicate with me endlessly- I've only just got rid of your mum and now your hassling me. Gees.
- + 3
haha got to love how people take themselves too seriously over the internet! how about we just chill out and enjoy riding our bikes instead of acting like children?
- - 3
It's funny cause we're having a laugh and people are getting serious and offended over it. I mean buddy just had to resort to a mom joke. Back to grade 6 I suppose!
Oh and trust us, we have no desire to communicate with you. We just don't mind replying when you're just as okay with continuing it. Hypocrisy!
- + 1
i'll ride ANYTHING i don't know why anybody is complaining, its his jumps he likes them the way they are.
- + 2
I think we've all moved on dude. Just hoping that Sam is back in full working order for the next event. He's an all round ripper and entertainer. Doubt anyone would disagree with that.
- + 1
Really. Your gonna rip on pilgrim. Decent. I believe he was throwing 7's in that video. He is an fmb athlete. Get out of here you bag boxer.
- + 2
I like how people keep coming out to defend what a good rider Sam is. I don't think anyone's said anything negative about how he rides, only the jumps he's doing it on.
Perhaps read what you're getting offended about before getting offended?

It's the internet
who gives a damn who gets offended over what
It's not going to change anything
- - 1
Well, when I continually have to hear the crying on my noteboard...
Anyway. Stop getting pissy. Sam is a good rider, which is why it would be a decent thing if he had a good set. Ambassador to the sport and whatnot. Nobody's ragging on him for having a good time.
This horse is looking like a moldy pile of beaten up goo though, so kindly leave it?

Yep. I should toss in more one liners about his van or his teeth so you can figure out just how serious this is.
Step away from the keyboard. Thank you. I don't really want any more updates.
- - 1
Yeah ur on liners are really funny mate n maybe here in britain we build out jumps so they are good to ride and then get on with riding instead on worrying abput ponsy flowers
- + 1
Whoa... lots of replies to that original post... absolutely no disrespect to Sam, that jump setup obviously gets the job done. I used to be a professional trail-builder too, and I get a little over-obsessed with things like perfect angles on jumps, figuring out the perfect mix of soil-tac and I admit I plant wild-flowers at my dig spots... I just like seeing high-level riders who are focused on the important thing: riding. I spend all that time making my spots look nice because I'm not throwing flip-whips...
