abzillah its that kind of unsubstantiated, unproven, fear-of-the-unknown crap that leads to not using protective gear properly. A collarbone or shoulder blade break is 110% preferable to anything involving your spinal cord. Get your facts right.

Braces have a specific cut out that prevents you breaking your collarbone and ensuring the pressure goes directly to your chest.

Is this video not fact that he walked away from that without any injuries?
If the human body is already evolved to reduce spinal injuries, why add a neck brace that has not be proven to prevent injury?

Our body didn't evolve to reduce spinal injuries.
Please substantiate your claim "...that has not be proven to prevent injury."
Each testimonial records instances of doctors claiming that without the neck brace the person would be confined to a wheelchair or dead.

The human body didn't evolve to ride bikes, let alone scorpion into the dirt at speed. What we have here is a single POV video with a nasty crash that 50% of the time would result in spinal trauma. Less horrendous looking crashes have resulted in major spinal cord injuries.

As others have said, the neck is really an evolutionary weak point. We didn't evolve to travel at high speeds, and the neck, being somewhat mobile on top of the chest, is very susceptible to hyperextension, axial loading, and shear injuries. While there hasn't been a big study done on neck braces (more for logistic reasons than anything), a properly fitting brace that transfers some of the forces of impact into the chest will prevent injuries. The study to prove that the braces don't increase clavicular injuries would have to be huge and have a lot of buy-in from mountain bikers willing to wear (or not wear) the stuff.

man, at least learn some basic jumping skills like bunny hop, transfer, and yeah brace the impact
