He actually states it's a short term fix but good grief - metal picks right on the stanchions - No No No. !!!
The garter spring can be lifted with your finger nails, no tool required.
Just use the end of a plastic cable tie to insert between the seal and stanchion, absolutely no risk of scratching or seal damage.
Moving the tool and oil all round the stanchion - no need, oil is going to run round on it's own, it's a liquid after all.

What else can we use other than specific mineral oils?
I use Silicone spray on my sanctions, but I have never lubed my seals myself because I ride for a suspension servicing company who does it for me. But in the mean time, between services, what can I use? I ride a lot, I feel like I must do something more.
