E bike review

Out checking an e bike for Mick in Oz, had a look at this and it's a monster up close, pics and vid don't do it justice. This would tame any Welsh mountain, up or down. E bike by name...but Seadevil would say, it's a monster rig coiled up with loads of potential and I'd say battery powered downhill rig for 2019. This ain't no toy, or ideal for a new rider coming to the sport !!

IMO opinion is stick with a yam motor bro, seen nowt but problems on the Brose (Specialized use) and the Bosch motors! The other bastard with the specialised is getting the battery off when you store it!

Ok, I guess Mick can see this also, I haven't got a clue as I'm a fatty riding fattys, worth knowing and weighing up all options for reliability and durability. I can see this link becoming a good blog about e bikes. Yam motors? What are they on? Are you reading this Mick?

yeah mate. Giant use the Yamaha motor . I like shimano steps too . From what I’ve read and heard everyone has their fave and all valid . At this stage ( only three weeks) of research im not at that motor vs motor option. I want simple , get on the bike and go . The brose in theory is amazing with mission control app to keep it personal but it’s technolsgy I probably don’t need. Really enjoying the research and learning what good and not so good. Only ever seen 4 on the trails here so it’s new

@samjam: one thing I’d say also is absolutely buy from a local dealer! Nothing more frustrating if they go wrong! I know loads of owners of different brands, CUBE, Haibike, Trek that have all had issues with Bosch. The PWX has a bit more zip also, my wife’s Bosch needed replacing after 600 miles of dry road use , my yam has been through nothing but abuse for 1200 miles (freeride/dh in all weather) and hadn’t missed a beat

@sewer-rat: is it a giant you own bro? I’d love to see what your bike looks like. The issue here is I live in a large rural town with four bike shops and only one is good. That’s why we all ride giant . Having faith in my dealer is paramount and I will go say hi to the spesh dealer next week. They used to be the best in town but have slipped off a bit. These bikes ain’t cheap and I want them to be able to fix it should there be a issue. The owner is a lady I’ve knosn for years and I trust her. I don’t know her mechanic at all though so will go say hi . Thanks for the advice bro, really appreciate it

@samjam: nah it’s a Haibike buddy, pretty similar though!! Can’t recommend using your local dealer enough, I’d go with the Giant if that’s the case

Here’s mine

@sewer-rat: no mate I’m looking at something other than giant . I want at least 160mm travel f/r and a great paint job . Giant can’t give me either of those. Times on my side so I could wait . Nice bike mate, how’s it go? They are in Oz now but never seen them

@samjam: really really good in all honesty, they were the original brand to hit it big and it shows with the recalls on Cube and Specialized etc although I believe Specialized have got better. Check out the new Haibike with FLYON motor , meant to be amazing

Fair play for getting the camera out for your pal! Hearing the salesman talking about the bike made me cringe... one of the reasons why I rarely go to bike shops at all.

Cool job man! Great research for your bud, I’d never buy one, but I would definitely give one a try given the chance.

That’s exactly what I said mate and the fun factor was on 11. It also means I can get more runs in . Looking forward to owning one

@samjam: Cool man! That is how I look at fat bikes, maybe not as fast as a regular mtb, but still fast and tons of fun! It is all about having a good time out there. Ride hard bro!

@zapbranigon: cheers mate. Look there will be banter and haters but everyone laughed when I got a 29er then everyone had them. I ride for me bro and do what is best for me when it comes to riding and think there is a spot for all bikes . Have a great new year champ

Cheers bro, any of these over there now? Popular? I like the look and theory behind them, but not the cash to splash at the moment....far from it.
