Marcelo Gutierrez s Glory Advanced 27.5

At 24 years old, 5-time Colombian national champion, Marcelo Gutierrez returns this year as the “veteran” of the young Giant Factory Off-Road Team’s World Cup downhill crew. After a strong 2014 season, which was highlighted by his King of Crankworx title in Whistler, Marcelo kicks off his 2015 World Cup campaign aboard the new Glory Advanced 27.5. Though he raced on the aluminum Glory 27.5 last year, Marcelo also spent a lot of time helping Giant’s product team develop the new Glory Advanced 27.5 - Giant’s first Advanced-grade composite downhill bike. Already content with Glory 27.5’s geometry and handling, Marcelo and the team focused on shaving weight and improving ride quality with the new composite frame. The result is a front triangle that saves 242 grams, but more importantly provides better vibration damping while maintaining the same frame stiffness as its aluminum counterpart.

Marcelo Gutierrez s Glory Advanced 27.5

Ever since my first test session on the prototype Glory Advanced 27.5, I couldn’t wait to race the bike, it’s everything I love about the Glory 27.5, with a lighter weight and a smoother feel that cuts down vibrations. At the races, that adds up to faster runs and better results. I've never felt more excited and prepared for the World Cups.

The Glory Advanced 27.5 features the same “long and low” 27.5-specific geometry developed with the Giant Factory Off-Road gravity riders, plus other key technologies such as a tapered Overdrive headtube and oversized MegaDrive downtube for increased stiffness and steering precision. Of course, at the core of the new bike’s performance is its multi-link Maestro suspension system, which is utilized throughout Giant’s full-suspension bike lineup.

Unless you're a loyalist brand aficionado, or super techno geek, it is pretty hard to pick one bike from the other. Well unless you actually demo them and see what rips the best for you...otherwise it's like porn. Most of the girls are way hot and only you can imagine what it would be like riding them from photos and videos, then say you actually meet them. hahaha!
  • 37 0
I agree. Like choosing a 1000cc superbike or a dual vortex vacuum cleaner. They're all more capable than you, just choose the one you like the look of.
  • 62 0
Speak for yourself. The dual vortex vaccum cleaner I coulnd't handle has yet to be invented.
  • 5 1
I find that suspension, geometry, and fit all differ dramatically between models.
  • 2 0
You're right of course, but the only way to know what fits you best is by riding them all, which is almost impossible to do. You can adapt to any bike.
  • 4 0
"dramatically" is an overstatement. they differ, somewhat, yes
  • 23 1
Marcelo: now icould be so proud to be colombian from, or to be an entusiastic rider; but Im more proud to meet you and meet your family; Giant is a perfect name to describe you: Go Marcelo!!! Atte: El Monta.
  • 21 3
weights, suspension setup? or maybe i missed that stuffs
  • 7 0
The good and juicy stuff are usually secrets, but it's always nice to know more.
  • 16 4
Pfft... Thing sucks. It doesn't even have boost hubs or fox's new axle standard
  • 5 0
 Egg Zack Lee..Thank you
  • 2 0
yeah, i scrolled down immediately to find out how this baby weighs. any estimates are appreciated.
  • 2 0
Nor does it have super wide rims and 27.5+ tires. I only run 3.5" wide tires and up.
  • 2 0
 weight: around 15.5 kg
the german giant site (which somehow always has more information than the others) says it weights 15.5 kg without pedals, but probably incl. tubes. Other than the wheels, Gutierrez’s Glory is pretty stock.
  • 1 0
can't expect too much when the article comes from giant themselves
  • 1 0
Do y'all know if these are the specs he uses for racing? (e.g. suspension springs/weights) Or just the stock/factory setup from Geeanteh?
  • 19 8
Bring back the saint/fox build a you will have a killer!
  • 14 7
Man I don't know what it is, but the Glory's do nothing for me aesthetically. I'm sure they ride awesome, but it doesn't tickle my peen like some other bikes do.
  • 4 6
 along with the crappy Avids.....
  • 11 5
You'd think they could score some black mallets. Hell, even we have the floating around at the shop.

flag jamezyo (Apr 2, 2015 at 19:13) (Below Threshold)
You should float ur ass on up to cowtown! Float ur ass down some big bike tracks!
  • 22 2
@jamezyo: What does that even mean, other than too much BudLight?
  • 9 2
Too much bud light just makes you moar awesome.
  • 7 1
It means I will take a million neg props to get my homie whattheheel up to canada to ride! Inside joke. Grown folks type joke even old school as it were!
  • 4 1
I will come up there sooner than later buddy!!
  • 5 8
Everyone better plus props this fuckin guy or we will run a train on ur mom! Lol Not bud light I'm tough on old Milwaukee!!!
  • 2 1
Bud light by the boat load here! Day off rules!
  • 7 0
 SRAM proto wheelset?
  • 1 0
SRAM Guide lever with Code caliper? Why couldn't SRAM have just made this in the first place for everyone instead of the Guide calipers with smaller pistons? They could have just updated the Code with the better lever design.
  • 2 0
 How tall is he?
Does either the al or c glory come in xl?
Shows xl on frame only geo chart but no xl when on the completes on chart.
  • 2 0
No XL in the good ole' USA jrocksdh, you'll have to grab one of those in Canada. I'm 6'4" and ride a Large, it's been working out for me.
  • 1 0
Another strange industry decision. lots of big ol Americans need an xl.(hello yt!?)
I've ridden a new L glory, and while it does hav my desired 18"reach#, I wld think anyone taller wld need to really get the bars up and outta the way. Sum r long legd, sum long torso...A large gt=xl glory in reach and tt.
  • 1 0
He is around 6 ft. I thouught he was huge until i met him in person. Warner exagerates a lil in those commentaries
  • 1 0
No XL's in Canada either... Was gonna buy a new glory but it's a no go just based on that
  • 4 0
325# spring??? that seems light, no?
  • 1 0
That's what I thought!! I have one of these (alu) I'm 6ft 1 and 12 stone and changed from a 400 to 450 spring. 325 seems very light unless there is some trickery going on inside the shock?....
  • 1 0
Check out SA springs, says about the springs being more accurate, lighter and to take a softer spring to enable you to use the full range of your compression control.
  • 4 2
This Bike checks should be done by somebody other than the manufacturer. It looks like a commercial!
  • 1 0
It is, it's direct from Giant
  • 4 2
Why is he running the Boxxer Team? he don't deserve the WC edition? this glory looks like the original factory bike
  • 6 2
I think it's because sram let their riders choose what they actually want to run. Everyone knows coil is better when set up properly. Every pro would be on coil if their sponsors let them. In my humble opinion.
  • 1 0
they focused so much on making the bike light, yet forgot about how much lighter the world cup forks are than the teams...
  • 1 1
he's on WC-Team... he deserves two forks on his bike!
  • 1 0
@jaame, don't know how true this is, but according to Craig at Avalanche, tons of pros use coils in forks that are usually run as air forks, presumably in order for their sponsors to sell air forks to consumers
  • 2 1
I like the simple yet stealthy design, no over engineering or silly linkages, just a refined version of something we all know works well.
  • 2 1
And yet people hate on Orange
  • 2 0
 add weights to bike check!!!!!!
  • 1 0
I cannot believe Giant let go Danny. I hope I am wrong but they will not have a world champion for a while...
  • 3 0
 angleset?
  • 1 0
after years of near vertical head angles by giant, no longer necessary.
  • 3 1
This is a damn good looking bike
  • 1 0
Just wondering - why the G2 rotors? I mean, SRAM had like 3 or 4 new rotor designs along the way?
  • 1 0
G2 are the only ones that are designed for DH. The centerline rotors can start vibrating under heavy use which leads to uneven braking power, or so I've heard.
  • 1 0
How did he get a 200mm brake rotor on the rear? Isn't the bike supposed to have a 180mm in the rear.
  • 2 0
You just need a bigger PM spacer.
  • 1 0
I have to have a tapered overdrive head tube. This flex is drivin me crazy. All i ever hear.....from marketing.
  • 1 0
Did the not drop the OD2 system for this year?
  • 1 0
looks like rear shock is soft and thats it. They could say something about his personal set up we cant see...
  • 6 4
 No boost?
  • 2 0
Marcelo is way faster than Boost.
  • 3 1
SRAM would argue he'd be even faster with Boost. Otherwise their whole marketing campaign breaks down!
  • 4 3
Hey that's not Danny Hart! Oh yeah, nevermind....
  • 3 2
.....nah they haven't changed anything... Oh wait just the wheel size
  • 1 0
Interesting choice about the brakes though.....
  • 1 0
It's quite common on the WC bikes.
  • 1 0
Why??? The Code caliper gives more power due to bigger pistons? And why the G2 rotors? G3 are newer and better, then the HS line is newer and even better than the G3, and then the new Centerline are the newest and according to testers, the best Sram has made ever.... So really, why the G2s? Smile
  • 1 0
Yes, code calipers give slightly more power due to piston size. And he's using G2s because they are the most heavy duty and have the most consistent performance under heavy braking.
  • 1 0
What, the new rotors aren't heavy-duty enough??? Don't know about the HS and the Centerline as i haven't used them, but had some G3s i toasted on some DH-courses and had zero trouble....
  • 2 0
Just saying what a world cup racer told me; the new rotors can vibrate a bit under extremly heavy braking, which can cause uneven braking power. This is probably unnoticable by 99% of the riders.
  • 1 0
Probably cause every next rotor is or is supposed to be lighter and quieter. Smile
The Centerline is nice and beautiful, but Shimano is still better in my view! Smile
  • 2 1
No boost hubs? no thanks. Looks flexy the way it is Smile
  • 1 0
are guide RSC brakes really good for dh ?
  • 1 0
Devinci specs them on the Wilson stock. Dont know what the difference is between RSC calipers and Code calipers. Their both four piston so I'm sure they stop in a hurry.
  • 1 0
Code calipers have slightly bigger pistons.
  • 1 0
looks like chaint tension is of this time ... Big Grin
  • 1 0
 headtube angle, wheelsize, frame material
  • 1 0
Anyone else notice the "giant" flat spot on the rear rim? Big Grin
  • 1 0
the color looks excellent, much better than 2014's.
  • 2 3
why the f*ck did danny change of team, he lost all the great material and sponsors ..............
  • 3 0
I think Danny Hart's new mondraker is an upgrade for him. I'd also prefer the Marzocchi suspension, Renthal cockpit and Mavic wheels. Same tires and drivetrain.
  • 1 0
Nah, if we look at statistics in the last 2/3 years we don't see any of the top riders riding marzocchi and I think we all know that fox and boxxer have much better perfomance, the new mondraker looks way better than the giant but it still isn't one of the top bikes, but we'll see what can they do...
  • 1 0
too much presseure on that team mates.
  • 1 1
 Machete....^^
