Granted, he'll still make more dents in the mainstream media in Canada - especially if he were to win Worlds - than Gwin has in the US media his career combined.

I'd prefer it stay that way. Once the mainstream gets ahold of this sport, there would be massive amounts of money on the table and suddenly we'd be dealing with PEDs and other methods of cheating. And you know they'll re-introduce skinsuits. Is THAT what we want???

 Ouch! Allow me to clarify, awarding Canadian Athlete of the Year is a highly political, usually BS process.

The Crusty's that vote on this award would view DH as too fringe and frivolous. As I said, even if Steve wins every race from here on in, he would barely get consideration. The Tennis player that got his ass handed to him by Nadal in the Rogers Cup final will win, coz he's top 10 now! Another win for Milos! (Ya Seinfeld fans, that's his name).

This is not a slight on Steve at all. He is the reason I started watching DH racing. He is amazing. Unfortunately it is unlikely that he will get national recognition outside of his own sport. It's BS, but the reality.

 Same here in the UK. No disrespect to the Smith but Steve Peat winning and being generally a top sportsman, Danny Hart's Worlds win and Gee sticking to the top at so many events is criminally neglected by the media. Only 700c wheels get any attention but even then that's after the never-ending off-season football reports. The campaign starts here!
