agreed! i'm prob gonna get neg propped as everyone has their own idea, but XC MTB to me is like watching road racing on dirt (cool at first but get's a bit boring after a while), and DH MTB is fantastic, but without any climbing it's very narrow in the scope of what "mountain biking" is all about. What's not to love about enduro? It has EVERYTHING. Especially with this track...some of those sections look horrendous, I bet even on a DH bike those steeps would be a PITA to get down!
Enduro is the perfect balance I definitely agree. Should watch Marco Fontana's (Cannondale Factory Team) interview on XC races. He describes XC not as a road race on dirt; to be fair.
Think i'd take more of an interest if they showed us it in a more racey format with timers on the screen etc. It's hard to feel involved when you're just watching (admittely excellent) riding down some trails with no explanation of who is winning, who is catching up and whether they can pull back the lead etc. That's racing.
100% agree. I wish they could have coverage like any live event, with cameras along the course and commentary. It's cool to watch an edit after a race, but there's just no beating the feel of watching it happen live.
It's a shame that we're unlikely to see EWS live in its entirety any time soon, owing to the logistics (and just plain cost) of showing the whole race.
But why could we not have coverage of say, just stage 5 of each race live, with a highlight show from the rest of the stages at the beginning, with full info of standings coming into S5? Not a full live show, but we'd get the excitement watching the finish live. Really hope to see something like this happens in the next few years. It's possible eh?
Why do you think the UCI wanted no real big part of it? It's not a spectator friendly event. I still think it's AWESOME as more than anything this captures true mountain biking. But the filmers and photographers....I feel bad for them. That's a lot of running around!
Actually spectators could get to spots on Stages 2, 3, and 4 pretty easy. There were lots of people out on them. Trying to broadcast it all live would be a nightmare. There was live timing on the Crankworx website and Stage 5 was live on the main Crankworx page last night, you can watch the whole thing on recap.
I watched the finish live yesterday on the redbull tv app, it was awesome, but they only showed the last 20 seconds of everyone's run, still cool to see, but like you I would love to see if not the whole final stage, then at least 3 or 4 splits highlighted at gnarly section that shows the riders skill, and lets us know where their times are at!
But it's not as easily accessible as say cyclocross or XC. I'm sure it's great to watch but considering how steep and long the stages are it's not as easy to show. Watching the recap makes it really hard to see what all goes on during a race. It would be fun to see where the real problem sections are at on the track.
I'm pretty sure I saw 3 cameras on the way down, all in the last minute of Stage 5. It would have been really cool to have one camera at the start of Stage 5, you can follow a rider for a ways off the top on Top of the World, second one off the rock drops at the end of In Deep, and then the third of course at the finish.
I watched the 3 hr replay on the crankworx website. Dissapointed. Although i'm glad they even have coverage of the event, but 3hrs of talking heads? C'mon now. I understand this is not the easiest course or series to film, but please just get SOME footage on the trails. Nowadays everyone and their mom uses cable cams. Why don't they set up a few of those on key parts of the course. Teradek now makes pretty affordable solutions to broadcast HD video through wifi or cellular. Point is, there are definitely ways to get coverage of these courses.
Such an awesome time yesterday racing that. So amazing that us guys in Master's class get to go out and race the same courses as the Pro's. No lame "Pro only" lines, just flat out challenging racing. Still on a high from yesterday.
I'll be sure to step things up for next years Enduro Toonies more rowdy and raw.
Nah actually I aim to keep it inviting for all levels, but being the Shore you know it won't be some smooth walk in the park.
What I can see here is that enduro is nothing more but downhill without any lift. Finally mountain biking went for true riding up as well as down. The balance between and the ability to do both is the essence of a proper mtb.
That shit was beyond physical capacity of most of us here, even if the uphill wasn't there. The Downhills on this, Les 2 Alpes and Trestle had next to nothing to do with DH racing which at best is a single 5,5 minute sprint. In Enduro you have to do 5 of those and you are equaly if not more tired at the bottom of each as you would be on a finish line of a DH Race
WAKI likes to comment, just for the sake of commenting. I think He could even change the nickname into WAKIcomments. This could even keep Troy less jealous.
I wrote nothing against jedezeja, just wanted to point out that Enduro is about Endurance and it takes wndurance to survive purely downhillish stages alone. But guven the situation you put me into, I wish you two to go fk yourselves in front of each other
Can someone explain Enduro to me? I'm not trying to be a wise a*s, I honestly want to know. Is there climbing involved? If so, is that timed and added to your overall time? The racing looks awesome from what I've seen
Just being lazy I guess. Found a good beginner's guide on Bike Radar that explained it. Wish I lived somewhere that had these types of events. It's boring living in the flatlands.
Gotta try it
