Kirill Churbanov represents the passion of mountain biking at its purest; with limited opportunities, he's been driven by his love of the sport and it's put him on the map. In fact, the video clips he's released have helped him build a vocal following on a global scale -- fans even lobbied for a wildcard invite for him to Red Bull Rampage in 2012.
It couldn't happen back then, but for 2013, the man dubbed "Benderoni" (a nod to the legend of big, Josh Bender) has made his way to the USA for the first time in his life to take his place among the most skilled riders in the world on the elite Red Bull Rampage roster (get his take on it in the video above).
With a style all his own, Kirill has descended into the pit below the canyon gap with a unique plan: to enhance the natural transition in the wash below and create an open loop. For a better idea of the trick -- and of the rider -- check out the video below, featuring the open loop at 2:23.
It's an ambitious build, especially since it had kept him too busy to fully scout the rest of his line when we talked to him on day two. But that's exactly what we'd expect; Kirill -- and the other competitors -- seeking out the features that suit their skill and style best.
He's already shown that he's willing to throw the biggest moves with no hesitation, a trait that has helped develop his fan base. Whether or not he lands them doesn't seem as important as the fact that he's pushing himself, getting wild, and creating memorable moments. We can't wait to see what he goes for during the qualifier.

where to begin... the thought is that everyone in america is just sitting around and fat and stupid, and then his first impressions happen in vegas.. unfortunate. frustrating.
needless to say but everyone's gonna be watching! I love the raw riding and hope that he rides well and safe. Next year these riders that don't have dig crews should post their need for help. I'm sure there are a few local qualified diggers that could lend a shovel for the afternoon. He packs the lip and everyone that helps packs roll in, backs and sides. Just a thought.
I watched the "Achtung" movies in 2005 and 2006 and like myself this tough riding, I am happy that you have managed to join this great team and feel and share your exitement and emotions...well...don't cram your head with the fact you are the only Russian there...feel the riding you are doing! that's important, you'll manage it!!!!!
Love that they were just sitting around like everything was sorted already, then they thought of building a loop.
Best of luck Kirill and your mighty Rusky balls.
SOOOOOOO psyched that he's going to be competing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love how his riding is making the most of what he has. I think this trait will serve him well at Rampage, and I hope he can stick his lines!
Wild card is incredible great idea, so folks like this can have a real chance!
It's both funny and sad when he mentioned how he was told america is... goes to show how far fetched russia is compare to the west. I'm not trying to be negative here, just saying.
god damn I wanna see him win so bad!!!!!
Good Luck Kiril, go for gold !
So why cement on your lips a*shole, Rampage is not a skatepark!
