  • 2 0
The back protectors saved quite some riders back on those days.
  • 4 1
old school tippie for the win
  • 44 1
I'd be scared doing that sorta stuff on a 2013 bike, but on a 2002 bike hell no!
  • 14 1
This Shit is UNREAL SO SKETCHY!

its not so bad as it looks... at that time it was like go big or go home... so skills where like 0... thats why they look so sketchy... obviously you never riden a bike with a shiver... it feels good but the problem is the wheight...
  • 7 1
No skill????????? Were you watching the same video?
  • 1 0
You'd be surprised. I am still riding my 01-02 Santa Cruz Bullit like Claw is riding in this video. Still with original fox Vanilla RC and Marz Bomber dual crown. I still take it off of drops 6'+ weekly.

The biggest downside is that my ride weighs 50 pounds!
  • 6 1
This is back in the days when freeriders actually wore protective gear.
  • 2 1
bebemonk4eva, you reckon the riders in 2002 had no skill!?!?!?!?!?! You go do what they did on those bikes then and then you can say they have no skill.
  • 2 0
yaeh look at these idiots, why would someone wear body protection? everyone knows a TLD D3 is enough and protects your whole body as well
  • 45 2
Dammit Pinkbike I need to do my homework
  • 6 0
I guess physics hw took me 35 mins more than it should've!
  • 37 1

Klassen, what happen to that ripper. He just totally faded out! I have Drop Intv Season 3, what happened to him! Haha.
  • 7 0
"SUPER T" haha that guy went so huge, great attitude ..great rider.
  • 6 1
I asked romaniuk on FB a while back he's still riding apparently
  • 7 1
he works at bike brewery in abotsford . www.bikebrewery.com/about.html
  • 4 0
Watch your drop in Season 3 DVD, find the episode where everyone is getting stung by bees and you will recognize Stevie Smith at age 15ish hitting some DJs with the Dropin crew haha just a little easter egg you probably already noticed though
  • 6 1
Yeah man, it is such a throw back to see them and the other boys. They've all grown up so much. I am so proud of them! Haha
  • 5 1
super T- just wondered the same thing, found out he runs a bike shop in BC and lends people bikes in exchange for beer.
  • 8 0
Thats amazing, I loved super T, one of my idols back in the day for sure. I too was also wondering what happened to that guy! I'm glad to hear he's still ripping somewhere. All these big names, it's such a throwback! Schley, Tippe, Kinrade, Klassen, Gracia, Peaty!, Bourden, Watson (tour de france anyone?), Bender, Bear claw, all these guys were killing it! What a golden age for sure, wish I could make it out to this years RBR, maybe next year.
  • 2 0
Super T had a burly crash and broke his femur later on, I think that took him off the radar.
  • 1 0
If you guys saw STUND season 1, you'd see that major crash Super T had. Matt Hunter was in that episode.
  • 2 0
I do remember that crash, but they never went on to explain about it. Either way, it sucks he faded out, it would have been good to have seen where he went!
  • 12 2
"Darren Berrecloth, bmx", lol! Amazing how much things can change in a decade. The greatest big mountain rider of all times, at least for me, was still running bmx! Claw was, is and will always be THE MAN!
  • 9 0
I remember my 2002 giant dh comp and to be fair that was one very capable bike. It may have been ten years ago but even back then those bikes were pretty sick. Admittedly not as capable as today's modern equivilants but not penny farthings like some may think
  • 5 1
Very true. I've just come back to the sport after an 8 year gap and I don't think that dh bikes have advanced as much as people think. To me they just got a lot prettier.
  • 3 0
I'm ridin a 2004 giant dh team. getting old but it does it just as good as new bikes for less than half the price.
  • 2 0
I still have my 2000 kona stab, but it does not compare to my 2011 norco team dh, the suspension has come a long way, in 10 years.
  • 1 0
My bike shop staff still swear by pre-2003 Marzocchi. Good kit all round!
  • 12 0
 No wooden features here..
  • 12 4
I was into BMX for like 15 years and just just recently got big into mountain bikes. I missed this golden age of mountain biking and I like it way way way better than the stuff that is out today. Awesome to see this stuff.
  • 12 0
True, also none of new movies can produce the same amazing impression as first Kranked and Disorders
  • 7 0
It's just plain sick. I was in awe seeing this then, and am today. People like Schley, Gracia, Tippie and Simmons remind me of the true freeride spirit. I wish they were still in films, it's not all about slopestyle and jumps. They killed it then, they kill it now. It's serious badass. More retro MTB, lets get some of the early Kranked and NWD stuff on here.

Awesome! My girlie and I have been watching the Rampages in order to get ready for this weekend... good call Pinkbike. Now how about posting the rest of them? Razz
  • 5 0
haha and I emailed pb to ask them to post an old rampage and they delivered!!! Thanks pb and freeride entertainment and red bull. I'm glad everyone can share this golden era of history together now too. Things have come a long way -- but this is where it all began and it's amazing.....
  • 9 1
Thanks for putting this up, this is still one of the best Rampage movies that was put out.
  • 12 5
I'm amazed at the difference in video quality and even production. These days kids with $1000 can create much more artistic and higher resolution video.
  • 4 0
Wow the negative reps come quick...I wasn't knocking the vid of 2002, because everything back then was like this. Just commenting on the progress of technology and style.
  • 3 0
I know what you mean every kid has an hd camera now but I dont need hd to know these guys are sending it!
  • 9 0
Proof that it's not the bike, it's the rider.
  • 9 1
 I love the hockey jersey...
  • 9 2
The only thing that has dramatically changed are the sunglasses , orange transparent frames , yuck
  • 5 0
then: heres a bike, now try to make it down that mountain without dying.
now: heres a bike, now try to make it down that mountain while doing back flips and 360s oh and dont die.
  • 4 0
I agree with 'then', but you can see how hard the forks are bottoming, nevermind how many riders are being bucked by rear suspension they (as well as the techs) still didn't fully understand. These are test (madmen) riders on an "I dare you." course which has very nearly come to terms with the riders. The "while doing backflips and 360s" is standard in some "fr" comps, this is supposed to be its own thing. Rampage is Rampage. The line is the line. (And for some reason The Claw didn't win after that massive save in 2010.) That's why the real riders love it and don't care who wins.
  • 8 1
tippie rocks!!!!!!!! so funny 2 watch
  • 3 0
it brings it all back to plain old talent, mad skillz and style....and an extra shot of courage. Not easy on any of those 50 pound wrecks. The best part was seeing guys I have ridden with and best of all was Benders sheer terror.Bender.
  • 2 0
This was the first video I got when I started riding mtbikes. The terrain was all natural and plenty sketchy, lt will always be my favorite era of videos ie. The Collective, Roam, Ride the Lightning, and the Earthed series...
  • 5 0
each one of these riders are complete badasses and I have the utmost respect for them. Long live freeride MTB.
  • 5 1
"I live on the edge................................................................................................................of town"

PS Can this be VOD?
  • 7 2
Well the bikes are different to say the least!
  • 2 0
..and the music has also changed
  • 6 1
Back to the good old days!...
  • 4 0
Haha, classic Cedric - "You have to enjoy life or you're a retard". Best quote ever.
  • 3 0
By the looks of it everything was more durable back then. Bikes and even the riders, Dave Watson wipes out three times and keeps going with his run!
  • 5 3
its amazing how much riding and bikes have changed in just 10 years imagen what we will all be doing and riding in another 10 years!!!
  • 6 1
 hair! Razz
  • 5 1
Both Gracias and Tippies stoke dial goes to 11
  • 1 0
This is the kind of thing that makes me wonder about our mtb suspension. We only gained 1" on average on dh forks since then. My Mx has 14 inches in the back and 12 in the front and its barely bigger than my dh
  • 3 0
Back when rampage was still about freeriding on natural, gnarly terrain instead of doing one trick.
  • 4 1
for real ..How come Brett Tippie is not president yet???? what a stupid world we live in! Frown
  • 4 3
Flow, they didn't know what it it. Lots of things changed, starting from the bikes, ending in the prespective and riding style of the riders.
  • 5 1
 Classic!
  • 2 0
why are so many posts propped down? somebody went on a mad disliking spree Razz
  • 3 0
You just gotta love the spirit on these earlier rampages!
  • 2 0
lol the most interesting part for me was watching the change in sunglass/piercing style
  • 4 1
Hard rockin' music + fast editing + insane riding = Awesome video!

Say what you will about trends, but I can't imagine why anyone would go back to skinny bars. Just watching this makes me uncomfortable.
  • 2 0
yes look at the bikes! when DH bikes were big and burly and rarely snapped in half.
