Ollie (Barbour1994) is pretending to be Canadian (tbh I would like to be) however he means he saw him at the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire with me. Not so rock and roll!
One of the guys from Where the Trails Ends is most likely to win this, considering they've been riding and thinking about this type of terrain for the past 2 years.
I wonder if Zink is thinking of 720'ing the Oakley drop, if it's there this year. It would be hard to do something harder than a 360 after he fell hard last time!
miloxc3 get real, a 720 for starters is virtually on a downhill bike... ive never sen it tried to be honest. i will gve you £5 if he 720's the oakley ower put it that way
Yeah, I was just suggesting that Zink may be thinking of improving his last run on the drop. And if so, what might we see? Your sentence doesn't really make sense by the way...
Yeah i know, i must have posted it with my eyes closed :S i doubt he will use the Oakley tower, unless he does another 360 which is a bit like admitting i cant improve my run... I think there will be new things for 2012 and we shall see when it happens i suppose
screw NBC. making us wait. american tv is shit. people would rather watch american idol and jersey shore than gnarly dudes huckin cliffs on DH bikes. screw you NBC
tv is archaic at this point... that's why it REALLY sucks to see networks holding on for dear life and forcing people to have to watch things their way...
Righteous rant elpinche. I totally agree. NBC is waiting until they think they can maximize those advertising dollars to show the Rampage to the masses. I would fully support a Snooki cliff toss.
Dudes (elpinche & timrippeth) we should all be stoked they are even willing to show it all. The sad truth is we as mountain bikers and fans are a very small number of the people watching their channel and making up their ratings. Besides they got have time to edit it for all of the best material to put on TV in a small time frame, cause you know they are not going to show it all commercial free. Be happy they are bringing it to the masses......
If you are going to complain about American stupidity you should be referring to complete lack of political knowledge and the horrific effect they have had on global warming...not television entertainment.
I look forward to seeing it on TV as well as video. I don't want to see any stupid backflips this year, and I'm quite serious about that!
THIS IS NOT GYMNASTICS! THIS IS NOT SKATEBOARDING! THIS IS NOT BMX! YOU HEAR ME MCCAUL, ETC! I'M CALLING YOU FLIPPER FLOPPER FOOLS OUT! ON PINKBIKE!
GET OVER IT!
I am.
There is not a doubt in my mind all my Pinkbike bro's and ho's are going to stand by me on this issue, we want to see big natural lines, creativity, and natural style, not robotic flips.
Here is my podium dream:
1 B Dawg 2 Gee Dawg 3 sick mick 3 bear claw with a side of cole slaw
I like how some people neg prop my first comment but not my second...cause my points finally start getting through. Rampage is about freeride, not flippy flips for flipwhits!
Some "get real" freerider should burn all the wooden ramps down the night before finals! mcCaul and all the Wanna-be BMX'ers would pee in their knickers once they realized their pre-orchestrated BMX-gymnastics routines were no longer possible and they had to ride the more technical lines! I've had it with the perversion of changing golden Utah soil into a wooden circus act, somebody's gotta do something, this IS the year of the apocalypse after all!
Wade Simmons, Vanderham, even Rob Warner..please protest this, even if its just on Twitter accounts. One tweet can make a difference, BDawg has proved this hundreds of times.
Don't make me go to Utah, you don't want that! I don't get along with the cult people.
As big of a douche as Protour is being, i agree with part of what he is saying. It would be nice to see this as "au natural" competition. Leave the wood booters to crankworx and make this about sculpting all your lines and jumps out of what is there.
it's not like you have to hit the wooden objects... Darren's whole line in 2010 avoided them... if people want a natural line all they have to do is choose one...
Protour, What aspect of mccaul hitting a 60 foot canyon gap to a small landing makes him a BMX wannabe? Cam Zink 360ing a 50 footer? He must be a bmx wannabe too because people ride virgin utah all the time on their BMX bikes.
Also, Protour, what do you have against flips? Did you try one and crash and break your neck, and now you got beef with people that can do them? Cerdric Gracia wanted to do one in a world cup race run. I bet you hate him now. He's a BMX wannabe too. Flips are part of mountain biking. Deal with. it. They're part of freeride too. Deal with it.
Protour, chill out and get the sand out of your vagina. This contest is going to be sick, whether they have a few wood ramps, or no wood ramps. Just be thankful that Red Bull is willing to put on such a sick event for YOUR entertainment. They don't have to do this, so just be grateful they are doing it at all, and enjoy it.
All that being said, I'm so stoked for this event. I wanna see someone flip the canyon gap. I'm also interested to see how dirt jumpers like Thomas Genon handle the course. I could see him throwing down hard.
Hey guys there seems to be a bit of confusion! But just so you know Red Bull Rampage will be streaming live globally on Sunday October 7 from 1pm MT / 9 pm CET. The stream is available globally, allowing you to watch it as it happens on both redbullusa.com/rampage and redbullsignatureseries.com.
US audiences will also be able to see all the best action highlights shot in HD on NBC on Saturday, December 8th at 2pm ET. Global audiences will be able to watch the NBC highlight program on demand 24 hrs after the show.
Don't get me wrong Cheapevil, I'm totally psyched that it is being broadcast on a mainstream network. The Rampage and the type of riding done there is completely alien to a lot of people. Sometimes I forget how small our tribe really is.
SO stoked for rampage. By fa my favourite competition, it'll be interesting to see how the guys in Where the Trail Ends will stack up because he's right, they have had a bit longer on this kind of terrain
So is the live stream still on? Over on vital people were saying it is going to be blocked by geocities in the U.S. cause of the broadcast on NBC in december. I sure hope it is streamed on the 7th of October cannot wait! yahoo
Sadly it looks to be true. Everyone else will get to watch the entire contest while those of us in the US will be stuck waiting until December, only to have NBC give us an over-edited turd with a bunch of Masekala and a ton of other commentary no one cares about. If it ends up anything like the way they produced the Supernatural snowboard event we'll be lucky if we see half the runs on TV.
I still don't understand why they are blacking out rampage but they didn't block out Joyride, which will be aired on NBC the same way in October.
I feel like the U.S. is getting it all wrong in terms of their online acts, laws, bills, etc. They are totally big brother a la 1984. I really hope our red neck prime minister doesn't get any more ideas. I don't have cable (or any tv channels) so if they blocked online streaming for major events in Canada I'd be stuck ordering cable to watch which I really don't want. damn. All this to say, that sucks for you guys. I had no idea that was happening already! Big Brother is watching (and wants your money.)
Rbka- it doesn't have anything to do with laws or the government. It's a contract that NBC has Redbull to air the event on network television in the US in December. They want people to watch the crappy over-produced mess they put on the air in December so they withhold the live feed from us.
I am pretty sure there has to be a way around this. Perhaps some way to spoof your IP address so it does not reflect one from the US? I will do some reasearch...
From Red Bull - "In the USA, when you go to www.redbullusa.com/rampage, users will be redirected to the NBC Signature Series site to view. Others outside the US will view direct from the Red Bull player. That's the only difference."
See if he had said "Only real freeride mountain bike event" that might be accurate, but as it is, he's including everything, and i'd say something like enduro is closer to the real mountain bike event. He probably just needs to be more specific
TristanL...Dont kid yourself...the features/landings/lines/everything in Rampage are just as "man-made" as any other bike contest. Even most of the lines in "Where the trail ends" have been "touched up" by digging out a landing or building/shaping a take-off.
Uh... mike, that's not what he meant, of course the hits are technically formed by man but the Rampage uses the natural terrain to build lines. Its not massive double jumps or boner logs on the side of a ski slope... you're riding ridges and the natural terrain in whatever way you see the whole way down, despite there being some actual man-made features.
And to voltage- its only talking shit if you want to take it that way, haha.
Yea I think Scott here hits it on the head. Have to distinguish between 'man made' and 'un-natural'. It's different. Shaping dirt and lines On the side of a mountain is still natural, even if man made. There is nothing natural about wooden monstrosities in the middle of the desert. As long as its limited I'm ok with it. My only worry about it would be that it will cause guys to ride the same lines feeling they have to make their way down to the bottom 'senders' to score well.
I get exactly what TristanL is trying to say. You know, honestly, in the big picture, I've had more fun riding in Vail, CO, than at whistler. No "A" line. It seems everything these days is about "flowy" "jumps" going long distances duration wise. I mean seriously, I grew up where MTB was invented... and it wasn't on fire roads etc. Some of the oldies road hard shit... on basically rigid bikes. Some of the best videos and people I have seen have come out of the birthplace of MTB. People forget because people never witnessed the stuff people used to ride RIGID.
Whistler = fad. Walking up 15 miles of trail to hit your fav run = win. Something whistler moved away from. I still remember vail from years ago. A few > > trails that required top skill at less than 5mph to get through sections because they were gnar kill... no WC shit there,,, it was 10x harder than WC. Tight shit, riding through more tight shit, followed by true WC bomber runs, followed by more tight shit. True shit. People have lost there sence of "mountain". Even Rampage has got a little soft. with this, but then again they are adding hardcore manmade shit on it and backflipping it. Best of both worlds. Still doesn't compare to the days of "jaw dropping" bender flights. Not even remotely close.
rffr- Rampage has gotten a little soft? I highly suggest you go check out the venue and then try saying that... haha, wow. I think all the years of insane gnar has desensitized you guys a bit.
If the gay wooden ramps are burned down Lacondeguy has a strong point.
Otherwise the event has been severely compromised compared to past editions.
Where is the integrity? Has Red Bull sold out, just to get their logo on more stupid wooden ramps. If this is the way it goes down, then there is no longer a "real" freeride event any longer. Especially if someone wins cause of a backflip off one of the toothpick ramps!
If this continues we're gonna have to call it Wooden RAMP-age!
protour does have a slight bit of a point with the rest plain trolling, I think the winner should be the guy who sends it the biggest not the guy who puts down more tricks but then again zink and bearclaw send it pretty big and they still trick it so now its hard to judge really
i don't get what what there is to whine about, this isn't joyride where you have to hit wooden obstacles... there's plenty of dirt at the site and only those who choose to ride the wooden ramps ride them...
Yeah I mean It's cool either way to watch, no doubt. But I agree. It has been comprimised. I don't like the wood. Rampage used to make a statement. No trail, no structures, just man, bike and mountain. It was the purest and most badass incarnation. That is now lost. Sorry, but that's how I feel. I wish I could burn down those ramps I really do.
Watched Rampage 2001 and 2002 last night and planning to watch the rest to get even more amped for the contest. Even in the first two years they went from "2 lines with minor variations" in '01 to over 20 distinct lines in '02! This contest progresses the sport in a way unparalleled by anything else out there! AND WE GET TO SEE IT ALL GO DOWN IN REAL TIME?!?! AWESOME.
Also, looking at the rider list many guys on the FMB are looking to qualy for this event to aid their overall points -- some of whom I've never seen ride huge mountain stuff like this (Pilgrim? Genon?!) that should mix things up in a bit of a crazy way.
I agree, the event has become an unfortunate shadow of its old self.
The only bad thing about watching the old forage is seeing everyone on narrow handlebars....but actually that makes it even crazier!
Ahh.. Cedric, probably the most awsome and "role modelish" guy of the early days. He was a racer, as well as sheer freerider... something many people weren't. Those were the days. Watching the lines of this years vid, it's amazing at how much smaller everything is. Sure, some stuff might be steeper (that seems to be a trend, ultra steep so you don't smash on your landing) but still, I think when bender disappeared from the scene, something died. No more plow bike stuff. I mean, single crowning in rampage... come on, if your single crown is strong enough for something, it's not big enough for an even of this caliber.
Football isn;t hockey. Post a hockey vid and we may be interested.. but football for only 3 things. Rednecks in HS in the MW, black people, and posers (I mean fans). Football basically sucks these days asides from true ball... which isn't pro... and isn't 90 % black. And no, not racist... it's a fact. Try to make hockey 90% black and see what would happen.
All these fools talking crap about rampage not being what it used to be are idiots! All I got to say is I want to see you out there hitting that stuff... Those guys have balls that come in dump trucks jumping 60 ft gaps and 360 of a 50 ft drop!!!
What another *ag "i need more palmade" stache? PB sucks in terms of staches and so does movembers. About of french faggies. Palmade on a mustache and combing it like 50 times a day. What true fagwads. I'd rather see a chick palmade her "patch" than a guy... even though both are extremely lame.
99.9999 % of guys on here will never have a real mustache because they tend to it with creams etc, like a vagina covered with herpies.
I hope Claw can win this year.Last time he got third after he went back from Gobi Desert for WTTE.I think he is ready to do some big stuff we never see.Come On,爪.I know U will, please!
Yeah, and there are a lot of those days. If only there was a parallel Me. I'd send myself to job, kid and girlfriend. And the other myself SHALL SHRED ALL DAY!

I have not had a chance to personally play with it yet though, I am at work still and don't want to DL it on my company machine.
