 | I think a lot of people don't realize how hard the quick enduro guys ride. In videos and photos it often looks a lot like trail riding and you don't always get a real feel for their speed or skill. So when I heard stories of some riders hucking over a couple of turns into a dry riverbed at the Punta Ala round of the Superenduro series, I grabbed the camera and headed out. Before long Al Stock came down and I pulled him over to size up the gap. It's not the biggest huck in the world, maybe twenty feet, but it's only got a couple of feet of drop in it and zero lip so you need to be tanking to get to the downslope. "I hear all the top boys are jumping this mate, and somebody told me you were one of them..." That did the trick and Al was pushing back up to hit it. Even though I couldn't see him coming in, I could hear how hard he was going to get the speed for this, really putting some abuse into the pedals. It was only when he came back up to see how the photos were that I realised how sketchy it had been - to get the line he'd had to hold it so close to the tree on takeoff that it had scored a six inch line down his forearm. - Matt Wragg |
