Do it again Kyle, the camera angle sucked
  • + 23
except this time 3 the drop
  • + 123
Dear Red Bull please upload Cam Zinks run
  • + 17
You cant see were he is going as much but it still gives you some appreciation for the exposure and overall gnarliness. Kyle Strait up Billy Goat.
  • + 8
bmar- on point. I only cared to see how gnarly that top line is... it did not disappoint. Him on top of the heart was such an insane view.
  • + 20
I'm glad that even pro's have crappy gopro angles and it's don't happen to only me! Huge bummer for the whole world though.
  • + 3
I don't think this footage does his run too much justice. how exposed is that jump at :30?? looks nuts

^ Um... yeah if you don't know what cliffs and rocks are and you have zero depth perception, I can see how it doesn't do it much justice.

to whom it may concern, the camera angle did not, "Suck." What did it suck on? your dinky? No, an Angle, discovered by Archimedes of Syracuse, is the space (usually measured in degrees) between two intersecting lines or surfaces at or close to the point where they meet, Therefore angles do not have the capability to suck.
  • + 9
You either wear a chest strap mount or a helmet. Not something inbetween

sorry if i may seem off topic, not many people are familiar to my type of typing (and pet peeves). I'm new here, il try my best to fit in :/
  • + 2
At least now we know for sure he deserved to win. So much flow and speed, incredible. Kyle is The Man!
  • + 19
Please give us Andreu's 2nd run! I would like sth to worship by watching it at least twice a day... For me he is the champ!
  • - 2
I thought he had the fashion statement all figured out with that camera mounted under the helmets sun block visor. He's got to fix the pov camera angle or look like a dork and mount it somewhere else.
  • + 7
If there was one run where you didn't want to f**k the GoPro angle up...
  • + 4
@Garythorn, The camera angle did suck. If you ever wore a camera you would understand. Also check out the other Rampage riders with proper camera angles and once again, you would understand.
  • + 5
hehehe can't believe that dude said 'dinky'.
  • + 32
Kyle strait's run was cleaner, but Kelly McGarry was much more backflippy, and could've easily earned first.
  • + 9
Kyle's run was cleaner, but his top section was also incredibly more difficult than Kellys, AND he hit the sender. Kelly's flip was absolutely legendary, so was Cams, but the best run won. Now I would argue Andreu's run and Cams run.
  • + 21
TMac's 2nd run was the sickest. Drop as large as the Oakley sender, but au natural with a blind flip leading into it. Gnarly exposed line up top...dude put it together. Andreu's 2nd run was nasty too!
  • - 3
Don't forget Kelly did not finish his run! He went off track and missed the last obstacles. Big mountain riding is all about riding sick lines, this is not a slopestyle contest like all the Kelly-fans think. You can't win a contest like this without being able to ride your whole line. Also Kyle's line was so much harder and more impressive. Yes Kelly would have wonif this was a slopestyle contest, but it's not. This is Rampage. Kyle fully deserved his first place.
  • + 5
I agree I was there and I thought that Kelly McGarry should have won but it was still very close. And I don't think that it was that big of a deal when he went off of his line.
  • + 26
Insane! Can you imagine Zinks POV flip over the drop?!? Crazy
  • + 18
when i clicked on this link all i could think was "please don't be red bull player please don't be red bull player please don't be.. f*ck"
  • + 38
it's actually not as bad as it used to be
  • + 7
 still pretty bad
  • + 24
everyone hates on the redbull players, but personally, ive never had a problem, especially not with the updated one.
  • + 3
 but whats wrong with youtube?
  • + 5
I loath the Red Bull player too. It's unable to pre-load, and it automatically chooses the resolution for you. Usually I'd let it preload and watch it in 720, but this piece of shit player makes it only possible for me to watch in 240, or sometimes in 360 if I'm lucky. I can easily watch 720 or 1080 videos on youtube / vimeo / pinkbike. Red Bull player simply sucks ass.
  • + 3
I use the click-to-flash plugin for my main browser (google it). It pretty much negates all the negatives with bad streaming players and goes strait (sic) to the core video. You can even download it to your computer and be in control of the quality. Highly recommended.
  • + 1
Thanks for the advise, I'll check it out Smile
  • + 2
I don't have any more problems with Red Bull player than I have with Youtube. I guess fast internet connection helps...
  • - 1
Why do people hate on the RedBull player? At least it works, unlike the PB player which sucks huge donkey balls and can't stream for shit.
  • + 16
Need to get a youtube version up and see if it beats Kelly McGarrys 11.5 million views.
  • + 4
unless go pro uploads it it'll never reach that lol
  • + 0
Not with this angle. You can't even see where he's going. Still cool to see this video, but I would like to see what he sees (looking ahead and seeing what he's about to hit) instead of only seeing what happens underneath him.
  • + 14
This should have won Rampage.....in 2003. All due respect to a great rider and a graceful, aggressive line, but this did not deserve first place.
  • + 15
Im still thinkig that mcgazza's run was better. Flow is not enough
  • + 7
Backflips aren't everything. And what's done is done, your opinion isn't going to take Kyle's title away.
  • + 6
I'm with Joako6. But congrats to Kyle--he had a GREAT run, too
  • - 1
Kyles run was pure gnar... Fact! No Argument... Let that not distract us... MCGAZZA WAS ROBBED!!! To judge Rampage they should upload all angles of everyones run for one week post Rampage and let the people vote in their Champion. I love the flow but should that outweigh the critical trick? I think the community should decide that not just a couple of judges... I might be outvoted but ya cant argue with the horde... You can question a couple of judges however. Still love Rampage for what it is and the effort that everyone and all the riders make. RESPECT!
  • + 14
If you watched Rampage live you would know that they had a live voting system running.
The public got their "people's choice".
The judges know what they're doing, for example: Josh Bender used to ride shit like this so he knows the risk involved.
The general public, as mere mortals, don't ride this type of terrain (for the most part), so we can't even begin to understand how hard it is to drop into a steep chute, canyon gap, or Oakley sender.
Plus the judges walk the "course" at Rampage so they know what everything is like.
So quit it with the *so and so* got robbed business.
  • + 7
To add to larryssman7's post, Rampage is a big-mountain event...not slope-style. Different criteria than just tricks are applied.
  • - 2
True that, pretty annoying to see all these kids think they know so much more. And then they get confused and think this is a slopestyle contest. It's not. Can't win Rampage without finishing your whole run (McGarry went off his line and was NOT able to finish his run). Also if you would have checked the score-system for this contest, you'd find out that tricks won't give you many points, it's just putting a cherry on top of a cake. But without the cake (the super gnarly completed lines) the tricks are just a worthless piece of cherry, which aren't even worth 1 cent a piece.
  • - 3
stfu with your cake and whos rode for longer yada yada yada comments.Annoying is your comments and opinions and yes your in that group
  • - 1
 That's a valid argument, daddyurbs.
  • + 9
 I liked mcgarrys better...
  • + 5
Rampage did not count this year. It got cancelled second half. CamMac was probably going to match McGarry's flip. Rumors are Bizet was going to match Zink's flip. McGarry and Zink were proably still going to do those big flips and add stuff in there second run lines. And Strait says he might have superman'ed the Big Gurl next time down and bettered his first run. Lets not forget the others who had there second run cancelled. There is still no two time Rampage champ if you ask me. Everybody got "ROBBED" this year including fans because the riders were just waiting to throw down, but that darn wind.
  • + 1
 what he said
  • + 4
When they cancelled the rest of the race you could here sighs of relief from up top. In all seriousness these guys are taking very big risks for little payout, some are leaving with injuries that will affect them the rest of their lives
  • - 4
flag pm148 (Nov 5, 2013 at 5:01) (Below Threshold)
Nobody got an injury that would leave them with long term disabilities.
  • + 3
Broken femurs (Bingelli) can change a person...especially somebody that races dh at the elite level.
  • + 7
Kyle Straight's shoes looked very nice in this video.
  • + 6
Didn't get the heart going like Kelly did though but props to Kyle for a mad run.
  • + 1
Everyone seems to miss one of the main catagories, fluidity, compare Kelly's run to Kyle, hands down much better, Kelly slightly cased the side of the canyon gap flip, his flip at the top was a bit wobbly, and he went off course on the last flip drop, it was judged accurately, Tyler should have gotten third place though I think, then lacondeguy, then zink, and that's coming from a huge zinc fan.
  • + 6
he doesn't get bonus points for almost hitting the stack of shovels, killing 3 bushes, and chasing off a cameraman?
  • + 3
I hope this settles any disputes about whether he deserves the win or not. Look at what he was riding down! I wouldn't even consider it a line at the beginning
  • + 1
Gnarly. the line he took at the top was so rugged, a lot of other people had some super smoothed out lines that were more trick able, but I don't even think you could call his line a trail. It must be really hard to judge these events because everyone has such different styles and line choice. You either hit smooth buttery trails and trick everything or you ride like Kyle and get gnarly.
  • + 2
Haven't we discussed this 'who won' issue enough? Let's pay Kyle proper respect and move the f*ck on. There's always next year, and besides Cam and Kelly are winners too in accomplishing their respective backflips.
  • + 2
Well said pinkharo. Strait was the smoothest and tech run no mistakes . Fair and square some of these morons need to find a life and grow up. The best in the world of free riding all said I am not risking it to ride in the wind. All the Kyle Strait followers thank you for your support.
  • + 1
Holy mega-exposure on the top line! IFO would never be an arm's-length away from that kind of drop-off even on my own two feet, let alone a bike. I'm not even afraid of heights or "normal" exposed trails.
  • + 2
I think every one knows that this was not the winning run that day, no disrespect to kyle, he was great, but for me the winner was Kelly, second Lacondeguy, and third Zink.
  • + 3
Holy Joe boy gopro mount. I love starring at ground. Is it his first time using one?
  • + 3
Wow he had a lot of time to put his hands back on the bars
  • + 3
He had a lot of time to have his hands OFF the bars lol
  • + 2
I love how someone shouts at him "c'mon man do it !!! Big Grin " just before the monster drop.. and then he does it. 0_0
  • + 2
i can ride my bike with no handlebars
www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8MOs54vIU8
  • + 2
too bad the camera angle was a little off. none the less you can tell how buttery smooth he was.
  • + 1
I'm sure he was real worried about his camera angle before dropping in.... Big Grin
  • + 1
Well he should be. These damn pros are only there for our entertainment. Better get their shit together Wink
  • + 3
That whole run was terrifying. Launching the Oakley sender looks insane.
  • + 2
 kellys run should have won
  • + 2
It looks faster on GoPro than it did in the regular coverage!
  • + 1
So, a no hander and whips win rampage?
(Soderstrom)- How about a quad tailwhip?
  • + 6
Big-mountain contests are judged by much, much more than just tricks. This was not a slope-style contest only.
  • + 1
Yeah, the line was sick. I understand that. And i have serious respect for anybody competing at rampage, tricks or not.
  • + 4
I put it as a coin-toss between Kyle and Kelly for 1st. I'm actually surprised Zink finished 3rd - albeit the sickest backflip ever - while Andreu and Tyler were 4th and 5th respectively. There wasn't anything really before or after the backflip that made it a podium-worthy run, IMHO.

No matter the event, judged events will always spark massive debate amongst the followers. Needless to say, I never desire to have to judge a contest of any kind. Wink
  • - 1
Yeah, Kelly had a great run, although I only recall certain parts of it. Zink maybe, just maybe got robbed of a few points. 4th and 5th were acceptable. Brandon had it going, he should have taken his time.
  • - 2
Wish they should start a tech dh comp for runs like straits then i could choose not to watch it! What the peoples choice clearly proved is that most like to see style on the big mountain as opposed to boring tech runs... Pulling massive tricks anywhere down those cliffs is tech in itself lets be honest. Change your judging criteria Redbull Rampage to make it fall in line with what the spectators want and you might stop hearing that certain riders have been robbed
  • + 2
LOL @ Dexta calling this a 'boring run'. It shows the lack of your knowledge about this. Go stand in top of that hill. The lines they do are not comparable at all to any other line in the world. Go stand on top of that mountain and you'll wet your pants. Even some pro riders choose not to ride Rampage because it's so damn dangerous. Please don't tell other how to do their shit better when you clearly know nothing about the subject.
  • + 1
Quite a few pro DH races could do that same winning line with that same suicide no hander i don't see the big deal. Btw what top dh riders have chosen not to so rampage cause they're scared little mr know it all ?
  • - 2
Kirill Benderoni and Sam Pilgrim chose not to ride this time. That's what was in the 'news'. Next to that I wouldn't be surprised if some other riders would have declined the invitation, what we don't know about.

There are 2 things going on with Rampage. There's the group of riders who love Rampage for what it was: big mountain riding. These riders have been riding for about 10 years or longer and have been following the first Rampages aswell and did big mountain riding themselves (or an urban version for the people who lived in cities / flat areas). These riders are complaining/afraid that the Rampage is becoming a slopestyle contest, and it would take away the uniqueness of this contest.....
  • + 1
......The other group of riders, often (but not always) are newer riders / young riders. These riders weren't around in the times when big mountain riding was big, and haven't looked up to riders like Kyle Strait, Tyler Klassen and Josh Bender, but these guys are inspired by the newschool riding, which at the moment is dirt / slopestyle (like all the other FBM stops). These guys look up to riders like Söderström and Pilgrim for doing many sick trick combinations. These younger/newer riders often spend more time on the internet and are probably mostly the guys saying the Rampage should be more about tricks, and that McGarry should have won.

In my opinion (I belong to the first group) there are already so many slopestyle contests. The Rampage is something unique, something special, something that reminds us of our roots, and hucking everything that's big back in the days. We want the Rampage to be kept the way it was, that unique contest that is all about who builds and rides the sickest line and hucks best.
Offcourse we love to see the riders pull huge tricks during their runs now and then, but we don't want that the contest will be judged on that. It's just an extra thing to make it more spectacular, that could give the rider some extra poins, like putting a cherry on a cake, but it's still all about the cake, and not about the cherry. A bit similar to when someone has a slow run in a racing contest and pulls a backflip, it's awesome to see, but he still didn't have the quickest run (which is what a race contest is about) so he shouldn't win a contest for that. And people will love to see that backflip most, because it is more interesting than someone doing the same run but 0.012 seconds faster, but he still doesn't get first place just for pulling the flip, even though he might be the favourite of the people watching (/Riders Choice Award)
  • - 1
 Yeah. Exactly
  • + 1
That looks so gnarly, and we all know how GoPros flatten out the terrain. I can only imagine what it was like in real life.
  • + 2
The fork sound on the landing, eating all travell .
  • + 1
its good to see even go pro messes up the angle when the coolest shit happens.
  • + 1
Not sure if I should blame GoPro, or the guy who set up the camera so crappy.
  • + 1
all that height and a 2 second no hander..Ok!!!
  • + 0
i guess this is proof that a GT bike can make it down a mountain in one piece, certainly not my experience with GTs
  • + 1
Anyone else noticed he's running coil sprung Boxxer?
  • + 2
 holy shit Big Grin

I lost my stomach on that drop!

I didn't realize billy goats frequented the dusty peaks... Nice run!

They don't have Zink run because he forgot turning Go Pro on... xD

Apparently the judges were not watching Kelly Mcgarry's run.
  • + 1
perhaps you missed it but they did, and scored it accordingly
