MT 8 levers are now available with a carbon or aluminum single finger lever.

DT Swiss

Eurobike Media Days 2018
DT Swiss will now offer an aftermarket freewheel body for 240s hubs to fit Shimano's new Micro Spline standard. This will retro-fit any DT Star Ratchet hub.

The entry-level 1900 wheels will be lighter thanks to utilizing a sleeved connection instead of pinning the rims together. With a wide selection of internal rim widths now available, everyone from cross-country to enduro should find the size they're looking for. Also, the hub flanges are spaced even wider, to allow a stiffer wheels.

The only wheelset from DT Swiss that's still available with regular lacing and J-bend spokes, the FR 1950 is now officially available in 29" next to its smaller 27.5" sibling and features a wider internal rim width of 30 mm.

New Bergamont Contrail

Eurobike Media Days 2018

The Contrail - Bergamont's 29" trail and all-mountain rig with 130 mm of rear wheel travel - is now available as a full carbon model. Turning a flip chip at the lower shock mount and changing the lower headset cup allows for swapping between 27.5" and 29" wheels without altering the 67-degree head and 75-degree seat angle. They have also integrated storage into the frame called the StashBox. This is the first updated Bergamont model we have seen for a while, and we can only imagine new Trailster and Encore models will follow with similar features.

The Stashbox is located below the shock and holds a compact toolkit from Syncros (the component brand owned by Scott, who bought Bergamont recently) on the inside of the cover plate. The extra space holds a spare tube or whatever else small enough you can think of hiding in there.

Keeping it clean: Cable routing inside the frame and Di2-ready with a hiding place for the battery underneath the bottle mounts.

Even the rocker on the single pivot frame with rocker linkage shock actuation is made of carbon fiber.

I love that Stashbox. Seems less complex to engineer than Specialized's approach, and about as clean, even if it's smaller. I carry and love the Topeak Ratchet Rocket as well, so the included tool is another plus - far superior to Spesh's simple bolted model. It seems like integrated tool and storage solutions are a trend now, and I hope that trend gains momentum. Plenty of wasted space on today's bikes - try riding without a pack once and you'll miss it dearly thereafter.

Since most manufacturers struggle to fit a bottle cage, but integrated tool just shows that bike are not as reliable as should be?

Couldn't fit a baguette in the stashbox though Wink

It’s neither easier to engineer, nor it is easier to manufacture. Spesh reigns supreme.

@WAKIdesigns: Enclosing the area between the lower shock mount and the down tube isn’t easier to engineer than cutting a hole in one of the major structural members of the frame? ????Step away from the kool-aid.
  • 4 3
No illegal drugs permitted in the stash box!
  • 6 1
@packfill: I would bet money that Spesh lays up their frame to include the hole rather than cutting it. The extra complexity that the mold for this frame needs for the braces that the shock mounts to would be about on par to Spech's design. I have to agree with Waki on this one.

 @fecalmaster: Weed isn't illegal here :-)

@kwapik: it is in my neck of the woods. Big Grin

I also carry the Topeak Ratchet tool kit. It's a really nice product, light and a pleasure to use.

Specialized storage is a lot better, you get a huge amount of room in there. Berg storage looks tiny and would get covered with shit, and who wants a bunch of tiny metal bits to loose on the trail ?
  • 1 0
This looks nice... I really like the swat compartment, but it's kind of yard sale status when you need to get in there. I keep my c02, dynaplug, xtra chain, breaker and links outside the frame since I use them often enough. It actually leaves room for 1st aid, shock pump and a lot of extra bits inside. I don't think we've gotten to the end of where it can go with integrated storage.

How in Hades do they expect those tools to stay clipped into that? If they stay put on multiple trail rides , I'll be impressed but if they come loose, they'll sound like Daffy Duck in a can
  • 28 2
Hey Bergamont, lawyers from specialized are holding on Line 1.
  • 5 1
The storage isn't technically inside the frame, so I think they are good?
  • 12 0
And lawyers from Rocky Mountain holding on line 2.
  • 2 0
I saw a triathlon bike with storage in the frame over 25 years ago. They turned the entire front triangle into a small cupboard.
  • 2 1
So, just because they made a stash box, in another place on the bike, Specialized are going to start crying about it? This is so funny Big Grin
  • 13 0
@FrEeZa: if any brand was going to cry about something like that and possibly file a lawsuit, it’d be special ed
  • 3 0
@FrEeZa: honestly I doubt specialized cares. Since (as far as I know) Bergamont dont offer bikes in the US it probably doesn't matter to them at this point. But it is fun to jab at the BIG S because they have a pretty bad track record of trying to sue the little guy out of business.
  • 13 2
Bad place for the stash box. Last thing I want is for my bike to look like an ebike while I'm pedaling my ass off up a hill.
  • 7 4
I’d be fine wirh DT Swiss straight pull stuff if they made 32 spoke one. I am now on their 28 spoke 350/240, DT Compa and EX471 since 2 years and the spokes/ nipples start breaking one after another, both on the front and on the rear. Including 2 spokes I broke at the spoke head, the amazing super strong, beneficial, theoretical advantage of straight pull. My arse. am a huge fanboi of their stuff but my next wheelset will be 32 J-bend.

Would be nice to go back to 36 j-bend and make it the default for MTB. But 28 straight-pull must be so much cheaper to mass produce; I'm afraid j-bend is going to be marginalized into high end and BSO segments.
  • 5 0
 That Bergamont is cleeaaan
  • 1 0
Would be good to have trail bike with stash box that can fit a motor so can have one bike/ e bike?
Do not expect bike manufacturers too want to do this, but should be what customers want ?
  • 3 0
I'm waiting for the Stashbox xtr version with ti cover and a torque wrench
  • 2 1
So if the new micro spline free hub retro fits ratchet hubs does that mean it will fit Specialized Roval hubs?
  • 2 0
maybe the higher end stuff, but needs to be the star ratchet not standard spring and pawl system
  • 2 0
 Looks like a Conspiracy Chemtrail
  • 1 0
Is that you Alex Jones? :-)
  • 1 0
My first dirtbike had a tool kit just like that.
  • 1 0
Stash box must be able to fit a water bong and film canister.
  • 1 0
what's the name of the wrap/protection over the shifter cables?
  • 7 10
Oh yay! More plastic levers from magura for me to throw out and replace with Shimano/sram.
  • 4 8
flag WAKIdesigns (Jul 8, 2018 at 4:54) (Below Threshold)
Their levers look like they were ordered in the same factory that makes bottles for window cleaners. You pay premium and get that. Here’s an idea I’ll be making brake levers from reused muc off sprayer bottles. I’ll be more ecological than Pole bikes
  • 1 1
@WAKIdesigns: There are no plastic levers shown here.
  • 1 4
so Scott is buying up companies now ? Syncos , and Bergamont , who else have they acquired . They trying to be SRAM ?
  • 2 4
Yeah, let’s make bicycles more and more complicated like cars...
  • 3 0
Nothing stopping you from buying a rigid steel hardtail with a single speed. Hell, go fixie if you like and maybe just rim brakes for super simple
  • 1 0
@bman33: Throw 26" into the mix and we're looking at $$$ custom framesets on one hand and BSOs on another...
