It's time for the big show at the Sea Otter Classic 2017 - the downhill race. With riders like Aaron Gwin, Jared Graves and Bernard Kerr in the Men's and world class athletes Jill Kinter, Anneke Beerten and Caroline Buchanan competing - who the hell won?!
Pinkbers....Before everyone joins the "not a real DH race" comment train, know those lame comments bitching about the Sea Otter DH are about 15 + years old now. The Sea Otter race NEVER billed itself as a World Cup DH race. The area isn't a ski resort with a lift and doesn't claim to be. It's a bike festival with a quick, fun "DH" race thrown in. I've been to the Sea Otter twice. It's just a laid back good time with some bike races thrown in. Enjoy the great video and photo coverage provided by Pinkbike and other bike media sources and layoff the negative Nancy bit.
if you are a real downhill bike racer this is a real downhill bike race. the course is downhill, there is a number plate, timed results, and people to beat. period. its a race.
So many nice people... The MTB community should serve as an example to many other "elite" sports for approachability. Nothing beats a sport where you can be so close to your champions and shake their hands or have a chat with them, even though you're just Joe Blow. Maybe MTB will never have the aura of professional road cycling, but for sure, it makes for it in terms of humanity.
I for one am shocked that the Marin Wolf Ridge wasn't the winning bike for the downhill, the duel slalom, the enduro and the cross country. I've been assured by marketing hype that it is the absolute best bike in all of those disciplines.
Is it too much to ask for to have a highlights video that's just riding? I love Tippie as much as the next guy or gal, but I really only want to see the riding.
Cheers and rubber side down!
I am no saying it is a bad race. I am saying it's nice to see how racers scrub the jumps to go faster and the best "scruber" wins
