Dangerous Momo (Christophe Morera) and one of the MIA Santa Cruz team riders went on a trip to discover the trails around Fruita, Grand Junction and Palisade, Colorado. The scenery they came across was breathtaking! The trails were great to ride too thanks to their local guides who showed them around.

Special thanks go out to Cobb Marketing and Communication, Paul Aieta and Juliana Adams for the organizing and to Nico "Buzz" Lecarré for the photos! Other thanks to Moon Farm, Wine Country Inn, Facing West Media, Over the Edge Sports, Santa Cruz Bicycles, Troy Rarick, Scott Winans, Noah Sears and The Groupies

Pretty standard tourist trip. 18 road. OTE. Hot Tomato. The Ribbon. Good video of the area trails. Someone should be physically abused for putting that soundtrack together.
  • 7 1
Don't forget Palisade Rim... the most overlooked and underrated trail out there.

No trees were harmed in the making of this video. Or even seen. I can check that place off the list of "incredibly featureless trails I shall not ride."
  • 10 2
 Far from featureless my friend.

Then let me change that to BORING AS FUCK.

That last pic sums up my feelings on that area.

This video was filmed within the State Boundaries of Utah. Or Idaho.

What trail is 2:22? I don't remember seeing it? @smmokan, is that PR?
  • 1 0
Palisade Rim at 2:22. Nice climb with a technical, 1,100 foot descent.
  • 13 4
Hahaha! You guys are spot on. Good thing they had 165mm of travel for those buttery smooth as concrete trails. I'm sure their knee pads came in handy too. They did that entire region a huge disservice. So happy I got to see what helmets OTE was selling.
  • 10 2
Like how does one make a fruita video and not include horsethief bench drop? Especially with those get-ups.
  • 5 3
I think it was nice to see a Fruita vid WITHOUT the Horsetheif drop-in for a change. Kinda overdone IMO.

Glad I got to take part in this vid, those dudes are solid. I hope some more footage comes out of their trip, we spent a lot of time filming on 18rd. Killian was doing some sweet lines and I, well, I tried. Smile

@dirteveryday your missing the greater point here. It's completly different riding the the PNW. How awsome is it that you can ride your bike in all these different places. Enjoy riding your bike and stop hating life!

Hit up Vernal and get some trails with less media coverage!

I've ridden Colorado, on a monthly basis... just moved up here from the Midwest. Trust me..those trails are featureless. They lack a personality.
  • 3 0
baha, please dirt the trails in Fruita might ride like Mrs Buttersworth, but the video didn't show much of Lunch Loops I know there's spots on there you couldn't even clean.

Never claimed to be a pro rider and I never said there wasn't tech or gnar, blah blah blah...I said anything...everything I've ridden in Colorado was just dry and flavorless. There's nothing I miss or would want to ride again.
  • 13 0
@dirteveryday You are correct. You really should never ride them again.
  • 7 1
@dirteveryday Man you need to expand what you're riding in Colorado. Where in the midwest did you come from? Cause I've lived and ridden in any number of midwest states and you can have all that trail, I'll take CO trails anyway over any of that. Colorado has great variety so don't label the whole state when you've ridden just a few "monthly" times and places. Next time you're in GJ hit Free Lunch, Pucker Up and Holy Cross. Then head over to Kokopelli and ride More Fun and More Fun Too and Mary's Loop. Post some footage so we can see how you like those "featureless" trails. There's also plenty of smooth alpine single track in CO as well.

I think the comment above sums it up pretty well. Also when did it become lame to ride bikes? Where is the kid in you? Dead?
  • 6 2
Never ridden in this area but I agree this video makes the terrain look pretty boring compared to other desert SW riding spots.
  • 4 0
if they'd just headed down the road a liiiiiiiittttle bit to Ouray...that's some scenery...

Sometimes my buddies will complain about a couple of the trails around our area being boring and not having good flow and I remind them that our worst trails might be the best riding around in some places. And I have another friend who hates riding outside of Colorado and thinks anything in CO is better than any place else he's been. That too is false because having ridden Canada, Europe and the US there's some great stuff out there that is so worthy. I can't remember being bored on my bike. I just love riding it. CO has lots of of natural trails and the open space folks have been slow in some spots to make purpose built trails with planned features. But in the last five years things are changing. Pueblo, GJ, and Pine as well a others are all adding trails that are MTB specific making use of some great natural and purpose build features. I am about to blaspheme but I have even enjoyed riding my road bike. PBR (pumps, berms and rollers) at 18 road is a blast at the same time my 9 yr old daughter can ride it so I could maybe see how one might hunger for something bigger and having greater challenge, but boring nope.

Ryan83 pretty much nailed it. I crave wet loam. Loose deep and steep. I didn't even TRULY know that till I rode up here. So to each his own, but buffed, silty, wide straight lines are NOT interesting. At least not to me.

Thanks for sharing dirteveryday. Have a nice day.

 My pleasure!

 I mean dirteveryday.

Free lunch is sooo awesome! Wish I could go back soon! Good choice of trails man @wilsonm73
  • 2 0
@ErikDH8 Thanks, I like Free Lunch but Pucker Up I think is my favorite. vimeo.com/47141445
  • 1 0
The rider is a friend of mine in the video and he rode and shot all everything. There's like 5-6 mins of dead space at the end of the video. If you are in the area be sure not to miss Pucker Up. The rider makes everything look easy, its bit more challenging that it looks but its a blast.
  • 1 0
For the rest of you here's another video of some friends riding in the same area that the video above was shot in with more variety mixed in than what's at 18rd and some close up shots of what's at 18rd. If you watch the whole video you get a better idea of the area and see that its not wide or straight or not interesting. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, at least make it an informed one.

  • 1 0
 @LionSnoop 1st song - OK, 2nd song - nice, 3rd song - ALIENS
  • 13 1
The video really missed the mark on representing Fruita area riding. A little too fixated on boring drone footage and clips of posers surveying the scene.
  • 6 2
Totally true. You nailed it. Unfortunately we are seeing more and more of those ya dog posers. Their apparel costs more than the bikes. Endless fist pumps and the word "epic" thrown in at least a thousand times. Cracks me up.
  • 6 0
Nothing wrong with 45 year old flat-billers...lol
  • 8 0
Its everywhere. So don't feel too bad. These videos just make it even worse. Lame wheelies, baby tail whips over non existent jumps, trying to spray dirt, trying to look like a hard charger for a each 5 second clip. And who cares where these dudes ate lunch. Lame video pretty much.
  • 11 1
The trails they rode are actually super sick and have amazing technical sections. It appears that they have not filmed/ridden any of them. Instead they just hammered flat single track.
  • 10 0
Due to a co-worker, I heard this vid before actually watching it. When I finallly looked over I expected to see robot porn.
  • 10 0
Visuals called for Johnny Cash. Audio was calling for gonzo rave video.
  • 10 1
 Motherfuck that stupid ass music

"...the trails around Fruita, Grand Junction and Palisade, Colorado"

Just. Say. Junction.

Fruita and Palisade are suburbs of Grand Junction. In reality there aren't even any trails in Fruita! And most of the folks who actually build the trails here live in the city, near the Lunch Loops - which is the actual beating heart of this community.

OK off my soapbox then.

That rim trail towards the end of the video looks awesome, What trail system is that in?! Wish they hadn't of paired that part of the video with the sounds of a transformer orgy.

I stopped in Fruita over 3 years ago on my first MTB road trip and I did a few loops on the 18 road trail system, had fun on zippity do da and some other trail that was like a banked S shape for quite some ways but other than that I was fairly bored. Not saying it was bad, I just really expected more, but from the looks of this video, if those trails are in the same area, I'll have to stop through again because it looks like I missed what the area really has to offer!
  • 2 0
It is the Ribbon trail. Part of the lunch loops trail system in Grand Junction... A lot of good technical sections, but you wouldn't know from this video. 18 rd is kind of a tourist trap. All flow trails for the most part. The Kokopelli and Lunch loops trail systems are where its at.
  • 2 0
Thank @KOReilly I'll have to get back someday!
  • 4 0
So cool! My next trip for sure!... Its a shame about the music choice though...
  • 5 0
Low budget 80's skate video called; they want their soundtrack back.
  • 2 1
A Fruita edit without Horsethief Bench drop-in? For shame.

Way too much time spent looking at some guy's ONE jersey.

OTE is a rad shop and Landon (if he's still there) is the man! Too bad the producers thought we wanted to see all the helmets.
  • 3 0
Well minus the music this video was kickin! Gotta hit up those trails soon!
  • 3 1
Damn,i miss Colorado. Cant wait to be back some day. Hopefully i70 will have been widened to 5 lanes by that point. Or we will be traveling in tubes,surely.....
  • 2 1
I think a stronger 285 and 287 to support I-70 would be a better longer term plan overall....
  • 1 0
Yeah, I miss colorado too. Best 4 years of my life!
  • 4 1
Wow, what a great video! Unfortunate soundtrack though.
  • 1 0
I love that area! Drive down from Salt Lake at least 5 or 6 times a year. So much good flowy riding with a little touch of gnar here and there.
  • 2 0
Video is pretty meh. I just moved to CO. Are these trails rideable in the winter?
  • 1 2
 No not all all sorry.
  • 1 0
Yes Fruita and GJ are often rideable in winter. Most of the rest of the state however is snowed in above 6000ft and north facing.
  • 2 0
Trails are perfect right now, come for the weekend!
  • 3 1
Great video, with the worst soundtrack my headphones ever played.
  • 1 0
Rode this area last summer for my birthday it's definitely a hidden gem. One of my favorite riding areas for sure!

There's an app for that but I don't know the name of it?

Marketing people always screw up MTB videos. NOT a sick edit.

Dull video, looking from it it seems like they rode a jeep road.. nothing technical..
