 @timdgoodwin: i dont think he is going enduro at all, to be honest I seen this with lots of MTBers, they get tired of formality and they just want to ride and have fun, they dont care about throphies or performance, it is fine but the Rat was such a great candidate to be a high performance athlete, i miss him at the WCs

 Stops international downhill racing to reduce ecological impact and then flies New Zealand to ride enduro?

 @Maverickdh00: More like all the WC racers that aren't competitive anymore go to EWS lol its kinda like retirement for downhillers (Tho ratboy could still win races if got his head back in the game)

 @SleepingAwake: To be fair, if he's staying over there a while then it will reduce the ecological impact compared to flying in and out for just a race weekend, then onto the next place. I don't know if that's his plan, or whether he is otherwise offsetting his carbon emissions, or if the who ecological argument was a hoax though...

 @sleepingawake @slimboyjim Ratboy's already said that the environment had nothing to do with his decision to leave the WC, and that Claudio was wrong to make that suggestion. It was in the 50:01 interview he did a while back. He left the WC because he doesn't like it, pure and simple.

 @Jubbylinseed: Cheers buddy - it did sound a bit of a crazy reason to leave, as much as the environment obviously matters...

 @slimboyjim: did not know that. thanks!

 @SleepingAwake: As mentioned above.. Ratboy didn't ever really say that... Anyone can tell he's a bit of a hippy and if you follow his feeds he supports n mentions environmentally friendly (Drink Water) projects and such.. But there's no hypocrisy these days in bringing spotlight to these causes while still not cutting yourself off from modern life.

I'm pretty damn sure all the best climate scientist and people doing there very best to solve the worlds problems still travel/fly & probably more than most, it really isn't incompatible at all these days.

Don't get wrong, there's 1000's of loaded/rich/powerful hypocrites out there, preaching something while they themselves are doing that exact opposite... but just very much doubt Ratboy is one of them...

And on a bike there's on one Id rather watch half of the time.. but yeah, gonna miss him from WC racing for sure..

 @Narro2: A candidate? He's been racing since he was 10. Won 2 junior world championships, 2 junior British National Mountain Biking Championships, then went on to become 2014 UCI World Cup Champion, and British National Mountain Biking Champion. Pretty far from a candidate. Actually quite accomplished, to the point of being among a very small group considered the best in the world.

 @mecabeat: surely a pure choice of words. Ratboy won the overall, no 2 ways about it.

 @mecabeat: thanks for the essay,

by high performance athlete i meant a dominant force in DH racing, dominant like Usain Bolt, Nino Schurter, Bruce Jenner, Elena Isinbayeba, etcc...

 On the bright side, it's nice when riders of that calibre hit trails you think are gnarly - and find them gnarly too :O)
