Reece Wallace Explores the Yukon

Oct 24, 2017
by Giant Bicycles

The Yukon is a remote northern Canadian territory perched on top of British Columbia, and nestled next to its US counterpart, Alaska. It's also likely not the first place which comes to mind for mountain biking. Surprisingly, the Yukon's trail system is extensive covering several mountains in the Whitehorse area. The dry tundra and mountainous landscapes meet to create a dichotomy of incredible riding.

TRANCE ADVANCED 0
bigquotesI've always been drawn to the Canadian North. It gives me gratitude for how large, beautiful, and untouched Canada really is. The Trance is the ideal bike to explore this. It's light and agile for long climbs to remote zones, yet eats almost anything while descending. When the trail can be uncertain ahead, it gives me confidence knowing I'm on the right bike

I love it when videos make riding look fun! Those trails look unreal. Amazing song choice too, love me some RAA. Nice work guys!

this video could have been three times as long. Somehow made me feel really deeply happy.

More props for both how awesome the yukon is and the RAA. You better have gotten tickets to their concert @scottsecco, just saw them and they were freaking amazing

@nofear259: I'll be seeing them in Vancouver in November! Missed them last time they were here unfortunately. Their new album is awesome.

I think this is one of the first times I saw trails I ride weekly on a pro video. Watching the video I'm kind of just like "oh man I love that part of the trail!" And then it sinks in, it's -10C with half a foot of snow on the ground here. Gotta wait 5.5 months beige there is even a slight chance of riding those trails again on dirt.

Wow. Didn't know there was much of a riding community up there but Yukon tell someone put a lot of effort into those trails. I'd love to go - not sure if my wife will let me but Alaska.

You should totally go! I have been a couple of times and the riding is amazing if you like long single track rides. Some of those trails are in Carcross where the local community has been getting the kids into building trails to reconnect with the land. Bring the wife and check this group out be-yukon.com I never stayed with them when they have had the ranch, but the food is amazing, and the guiding exceptional, and with accommodations like these I am sure your wife won't mind.

They have a fantastic ride culture up there. Be sure to stop by the local shop 'Icycle Sport' Fantastic service, and they also roast some awesome coffee!

Many of the trails pictured are on Mt Sima. Many are in Whitehorse areas like Grey and Mt Mac and built/maintained by the Contagious mountain bike club which rocks!

As a Yukon rider I can affirm that this is minutes from our doors. It was great to have Reece up here as he was super chill and happy to answer questions from my 7 year old son when we met him at Mt Sima. The riding here in Whitehorse is world class and offers something for everyone on over 700KM of single track. And yes a Trance can ride all of it as I have a 2017 Advanced.

I spent a week on those trails this past summer and was mightily impressed. With the long days in June we were able to be on the trails without lights until 11:00 PM and even ride past midnight in the open. Great, fun town. You should go.

 Beautiful video,
How much do you guys think it would cost Giant to hire a real designer for their next Reign? Trance from 3 years ago was much better looking but they changed that to this year.

Am I the only one who finds it annoying when the videos are embedded completely full-screen on the page?

So, is it Yukon Territory, or The Yukon? I keep getting corrected, and then some people say doesn't matter.
  • 1 0
Used to be referred to as "The Yukon" but now official word is just "Yukon". Many official sites still use both interchangeably. I doubt it matters
  • 1 0
it is actually yukon territory, but people will say we are from the yukon.
