The results are in from the 2023 European XC Championships in Kraków.

In the Elite Women's race, Puck Pieterse looked strong from the start and was unmatched by the other riders as she lead all the way to the finish. Matching her result from Leogang last weekend Mona Mitterwallner crossed the line in 2nd, only 26 seconds back. Sina Frei wrapped up the medal positions as she ends the day in third.

It was a close battle in the Elite Men's racing with multiple riders looking strong enough for the win. By the finish line, it was Vlad Dascalu who powered his way to a 14-second lead. Last week's Leogang World Cup winner, Lars Forster, finished his race in 2nd with Luca Braidot taking home bronze.

It’s a shame he has to now wear the European champion jersey instead of his Romania national champion jersey. No other jersey looks as good with a RedBull helmet.

He doesn't have to wear the European champion jersey, he could wear the Romania national champion jersey if he wanted to, it's his choice.

@billreilly: Yes he does, the European and wolrd champion jerseys are mandatory to wear, as they "trump" over national and overall world cup leaders jerseys. Besides why wouldn't he want to wear it, he is obviously proud to be the champion!

@billreilly: You have to wear the highest ranked jersey. World champion > European champion > national champion.

@nots1: Does series leader (white) trump the other jerseys or can one still wear a rainbow jersey even though one is also leading the series?

@vinay: The european and wolrd champs jersey trump the white overall jersey, i don't think national champ does. That's why nino never wore the overall jersey last year, because he was world champ

The young gun Pieterse in gold. What a good way to start her elite career.

When peaking so early, I hope she doesn't get demotivated or, even more likely, doesn't have to deal with negative comments, questions or remarks when she doesn't end up near the top. Of course super cool that Pieterse manage to grab a win here. I don't know the ages of all the riders competing, but even placing tenth here like a similarly aged Van Empel is doing here is still quite good.

@vinay: Van Empel had a great ride coming from 45th position on the grid.....

Loana was the same way. Dominated then tapered off. Shes still a threat, but nothing like she was 2 or 3 years ago.

We already knew Puck was good, we saw that in the winter; but could she carry her good form onto the Elite MTB after a promising time in the U23s, where Burquier was usually better.

Yes, she certainly has......

And well done to Vlad, a quiet start to the season, but looked to be coming to form last week....

Has Burquier made it in the top 20?

@KingPooPing: Yes, she has, but makes awful starts, a bit like Mitterwallner.

So happy I the option to toggle the commentary track from "English" to "Natural Sounds" Wink
