Does anyone ever think that the introduction of 29” and 27.5” has made a difference in why we aren’t destroying as many derailleurs these days? I mean derailleurs are just as long but are now 3” high off the ground.

If I break my derailleur this weekend, I'm coming back here with my best keyboard warrior smack talk! (knock on wood)

If tire profile is all the same, that’s 1.5 inches.

But at the same time cassettes and therefore derailleur cages have become much bigger

 @SleepingAwake:
Exactly.
So, there’s a change in derailleur profile too!
IDK how I haven’t schralped a derailleur since going 1x..

Regarding the conversation at the start of the podcast about carbon cranks — I think the carbon construction of my cranks (Truvativ Descendants) seems way more solid and durable than any carbon frame or handlebar. Whether that’s reality or not I can’t say. I’m going by feel alone. They just seem very solid.

That said, I don’t think I’d go out of my way to buy carbon cranks again. The performance, weight and durability aren’t that much different to warrant the price.

My Descendants are the reason I’ll never get carbon cranks again!

@Mfro: All good. I haven’t had any problems, though I’m sure a few people out there have.

I just remember taking off my NX cranks, holding them in one hand and the descendants in the other. I know there’s a weight difference but not much that I could feel. Stiffness, yes, but it wasn’t leaps and bounds better. One hasn’t proven any more durable than the other. So in the end, I just don’t think it’s worth the cost difference.

I’m not saying NX is great, but I am saying you can grab a higher-end aluminum crank (take your pick) with similar weight and same performance for a lot less money than a carbon crank. I’ll likely be doing that in the future. I just don’t think the extra money is worth it.

Feedback for the future: with the poor audio section can you please adjust the levels so its at least at a normal volume level? Had to turn it up so loud to hear it that when I switched back to the radio it was more then a bit jarring

More podcasters need to learn about Compressors and Limiters for real.

I was expecting a lot worse with the warnings of the audio. Just kind of sounds like I am eavesdropping on a conversation from the apartment next door with a glass or something.

Feelin that “Soul’d Out” soul music tho!

Yoann is still a rockstar!

First half of interview was very Franco-bucket Boys, I enjoyed it.

This one is chock full of good info and personality, but the audio quality is so poor, I eventually just gave up. Shame.

It's bad for about 10-15 mins, bad but still listenable. They were at pains to say if you don't like it just skip forward. Bit no you just instead decided to take more effort to moan than to enjoy the podcast. Shame
