UNITE COMPONENTS – MADE IN WALES

Unite Components are a fresh new company who have a genuine passion for mountain biking. They produce quality precision machined mountain bike parts on an international scale–with their base being one rural welsh border workshop.

They’ve constantly been working to design and produce high end, quality products which will stand the test of time–and the trail! The focus has been on providing quality via the materials and manufacturing process, which is kept as local as possible. They know you can’t polish a turd and that’s why they don’t start with one! Unlike some of the brands out there, they have spent time finding the right suppliers to guarantee consistently high-end raw materials; you can be sure no stone is left unturned. After all, pride and reputation matter and they sure don’t want to let you down.

Since the initial launch in 2016, Unite Components have continued to update the roster. We recently caught up with company owner Andrew Cooper to introduce the complete product range.

ISCG-05 Top Guide
Chain Guide

• Back plate precision CNC machined from 6082 Aluminium
• Slider CNC machined from engineering plastic with hard wearing, low friction properties and good resistance against chemical attack.
• Light and simple design
• Suitable for oval chain rings
• No need to remove cranks for installation
• Includes stainless steel hardware
• Compatible with 30T to 36T chain rings
• Weight – E-mount: 42g ISCG-05: 50g
• RRP – £50

Our chain guide was released at the same time as our chain ring. The Compact Guide is a light, simple guide that offers excellent chain security and mud clearance with silent retention. The back plate is CNC machined from 6082 aluminium and the slider has been designed to offer the perfect balance between weight, chain retention and durability. The open design offers excellent mud clearance and is also suitable for oval chain rings.
The slider itself is CNC machined from a high-tech engineering plastic, which is not only incredibly strong but also offers excellent chemical resistance from bike cleaners/polishes and chain lubes. The use of two fitment points not only saves weight but also makes it possible to fit the chain-guide without removing the cranks. Because of the large array of different chain lines, we have designed our e-mount guide to include the use of spacers so that it will align perfectly with the chain. Stainless hardware and spacers are included as standard with both ISCG-05 and e-mount versions available.

Unites Grip Ring come in a good selection of sizes amp BCD s

Chain Rings

• Narrow/wide chain profile prevents chain drop
• Wide tooth profile for extra retention
• Recessed for improved mud clearance and improved chain ring life
• CNC machined from hard wearing 7075-T6 Aluminium
• Hard anodized for increased durability
• Available sizes: 32T, 34T, 36T
• Compatible with 9, 10, 11 Speed Chains and 104 BCD cranks
• Weight: 30T-40g 32T-42g 34T-52g 36T-60g

Our range of chain rings were our first products to hit the market and we wanted to make sure they can stand the test of time. They offer excellent chain retention, great mud clearance and longevity with a very high quality finish. Grip rings are CNC machined from 7075 aluminium (one of the hardest grades of aluminium available) and are then hard-anodised to create an even tougher, more durable finish. This’ll mean you don’t have to worry about rock strikes!
A large amount of wear occurs on the front face of chain rings due to the extreme chain-line caused by 1x set ups. The extra wide alternating tooth profile on ours improves both durability and retention. As chains begin to stretch they start to bind in certain places, damaging the chain and ring; our grip rings have specially machined recesses which help to prevent this damage, increasing the longevity of the chain ring and chain. The rear face carries very little of the wear from the chain ring and so has been heavily recessed to clear mud in some of the worst conditions.

Unite headset spacers come in 5 anodised colours.

Headset Spacers

• Fitment - 1"1/8 steerer (straight and tapered)
• Spacer thickness - 2 x 5mm, 1 x 10mm, 1 x 15mm

Our headset spacers are available in five different colours to spruce up your headset and stem. They add the extra bling factor and will keep your trusty steed looking fresh. We also offer matching top caps.

Santa Cruz Top Link Bolts are easy to fit and finish off that dream build.

Santa Cruz Upper Linkage Bolts

• 2 Bolts included (pair)
• CNC machined from 7075 Aluminium
• Colour anodised
• Weight - 20g
• Fitment - Nomad 2015 onwards, Bronson carbon and Alu, Solo Carbon and Aluminium, Hightower.
• Colours: Blue, red, purple and orange

A recent addition to the product range. Our linkage bolts are available in a range of four colours (which are designed to complement our headset spacers). With tough anodising, they’re guaranteed to spruce up your Santa Cruz and last through the elements.

Compact Bash Device - 75

Compact Bash Guide

• Back plate precision CNC machined from 6082 Aluminium
• Slider CNC machined from engineering plastic with hard wearing, low friction properties and good resistance against chemical attack.
• Light and simple design
• Suitable for oval chain rings
• No need to remove cranks for installation
• Includes stainless steel hardware
• Compatible with 28T to 36T chain rings
• Bash Sizes - 38T to 34T and 34T to 28T

Please make a cable actuated dropped post, Joan g the hydraulic ram from a office chair in the middle, no fucks given if its heavy. 150 drop, fast moving, a normal lever and replaceable parts. The cans would be cheap, the parts only need bolting together, no oil, no bleeding, one seal. If these were 100 quid, fully rebuildable you'd make a killing. If you want a design, please get in touch. I'll only take a small sum!

Stuff looks decent enough, good to see it U.K. Made but nothing to set things apart....

Guides are a bit clunky and are average in price, rings are very expensive compared to Superstar, Works, Blackspire etc and bolts and stem spacers are nice looking but meh.

We need parts to compete against the best of the rest like hope / renthal stems, burgtecs pedals etc
  • 3 1
Works do some good stuff and are made in UK as well - I just bought a "seconds" NW chainring for £10.

I'm not sure Superstar are.

Nice to see products made for reasonable wages at a good price.
  • 5 1
@fartymarty: I'm not into Superstar as the owner has shown himself to be a bit of an ass and their customers service can be hit and miss but I will commend them on making a lot of stuff in the UK now, the video on their Facebook shows a shit hot machine setup, lots of investment.

Unite - your image is loooads better than a lot of companies, nice brand logo, owner well respected, parts a bit bland being realistic but looks solid - it's a good start, I would just love to see more of the stuff like stems, pedals etc coming from the small guys.
  • 1 0
@fartymarty: Yup, Superstar invested a wedge in CNC machines a good couple of years ago now. They do a premium UK made range which sites alongside the Asia made components.

@Racer951: "shit hot machine setup, lots of investment" NOPE, All subcontracting bro- superstar dont personally machine anything. And another thing, companies rarely bring manufacturing back "for the good of the UK economy and its workers" its likely down to a cost analysis showing machining the basic pattern components they do locally would cost less in the quantities they buy.
  • 4 0
@bluumax: I think you need to take five seconds to have a look in their Facebook page 'bro', video right at the top of the machineshop and plenty more of their multiple machines at work.

I also know a few reps who work for Haas and Doosan who have sold them machines, but I suppose they are making that up, the video is fake and everybody is talking rubbish?
  • 1 0
@bluumax: Of course you understand that every bussiness has to make profit...
Now if their cost analysis happen to bebnefit your country then this is something that you should be happy for it and not otherwise
  • 2 0
@bluumax: Uh, nope. I've bought products from them branded as our own, and seen the machines working in person. But ok, maybe I'm wrong.
  • 1 1
@CJlawson: Lol, you work for Superstar then?
  • 1 0
@Racer951: nope, I have no relationship with Superstar. I used to buy from them as a trade arrangement, we no longer work together.
  • 6 3
 Errr...

I'm stood in our machineshop with 12 CNC machines where we make all our UK made range inhouse in Lincoln. We only sub our anodising.

Pop down sometime and learn something. @bluumax:

Gone a bit off topic with that correction. I should add that the guys at unite are doing some pretty cool stuff with that bit of extra love and care a really passionate company can.

There doing all the nice stuff we want to do but just don't get chance to do while banging out tens of thousands of (still pretty nice) chainrings.

Pay your money and do what makes you happy!
  • 1 0
@SuperstarComponents: I stand corrected, apologies for my ignorance.
  • 1 0
@bluumax: apologising may be a bit ott, after all 'fruit' at superstar has come out with some absolute corkers in terms of ignorance and lies in the past.
  • 3 1
@Racer951: Not at all, my comment was off the cuff based on nothing but an assumption of how superstar and the engineering industry in general operates.
So whether he's a dick or not, im accountable for adding to the tonnes opinions portrayed as fact spouted on PB and the web and for that i apologise.

Just a thought, maybe ahead of the crowd.... reasonably priced 2 x 11 chainrings for XT M8000... Been in the market for some for a couple of weeks... very few people have stock (inc CR), when i do find them it's Shimano only and i need a sit down after i see the price, and i won't even go down the road of the XTR price !!! Get milling guys :-)
  • 8 4
That's because 2x is dead! Drop the mech it's useless.
  • 1 0
@clarky78: I already run XT 1 x 11, but there is no denying that the top end is lost.. My enduro has a 34 front ring, and an expander (46t) on the cassette, not to much of a problem in the forest so will not be changing.. i am in the middle of an XC build and still want M8000, but know that i will be spinning out on road sections so 26-36 seems an option... the other is to look at the 50t expander on XT with a 36t chainring.... Not committed as i have not bought the groupset yet, but it will be XT M8000....

Are 2x front chainrings even made by other companies? Shimano is big so they can stamp their chainrings and then rivet all the shifting ramps on. I removed my front mech last summer because I wanted to run an oval ring (Blackspire). But until then I was using a Deore granny and 32t ring (and a bashring). The bashring and granny are still on, but I don't have a front mech anymore. Anyway, the Deore middle ring has all kinds of funny buldges and ramps to help with shifting which are probably easy to stamp and rivet. But these companies doing smaller quantities have to resort to machining, which makes it harder to do all these funny shapes.

Anyway, Shimano is actually relatively affordable. If XT is too expensive, wouldn't SLX or Deore fit?
  • 1 0
@vinay: The availability of M8000 2x chainrings because of the crank configuration is very limited at the moment, even CR do not stock them, i have searched for M7000 and found a similar problem... Italy and Germany seem to have stock, but the delivery costs are prohibitive... ah well, will keep looking.
  • 1 0
@Steve-skidvd: Ah I see. I think I'm one of the odd people who actually reads the manual before buying a product (even though the real "dezignurs" claim that for a properly designed product you shouldn't have to read the manual). But I want to know whether I can do my own maintenance, what product specific tools I need, what spares are available and what it all costs. A lot of work yeah, it basically means I rarely upgrade Wink .

Unfortunately I honestly doubt any other manufacturer is going to offer you something cheaper than Shimano. Maybe TA or TA chainrings with a different brand name on them would be an option. Otherwise I think your best chance is to bundle your order with that of your riding buddies to share the costs for shipping.

@vinay: I have bought discounted XTR 26-36 chainrings.... got there in the end :-)

Good to see another uk brand up and running, buy British if you can, support rider owned homegrown firms it the way forward.
  • 1 0
Being from The Netherlands, I prefer to buy stuff made in Europe. Which includes the UK indeed, but also Germany, Portugal, Italy, Finland, Poland. There is a lot of good stuff made in Europe, but I don't think these products from Unite stand out. The only thing I'd be interested in is their chain device for oval chainrings. But that's only because I currently run an oval ring. Not that I'd need to have it all CNC machined.

Nice idea on the Santa Cruz bolts. Gasoline finish titanium would be cool too.
  • 1 1
Followed my mate at the last Eastridge Enduro, his chain dropped using a one-up device, my chain stayed put using unite! Worth the extra quid any day of the week.
  • 1 0
Linkage bolts but Ti wouldn't mind seeing a Ti chainring and how the wear effects a chain.
  • 1 1
Mmmh perfect... what a great idea with the Brexit, I can only dream about these pieces now
  • 4 4
Bullshit, brexit was a terrible idea but it won't stop he UK from selling to Europe in any way shape or form. The government isn't insane and neither is Europe, free trade profits all and it won't stop happening.
  • 9 5
dont worry, our currency will drop like a rock pretty soon, it'll be almost free to you guys
  • 7 1
@Racer951: "The government isn't insane". You obviously don't live here. They are truly f*cking mental. Although the opposition are equally crazy.
  • 3 1
@Surlybyname: The world is insane, but it is run by money-men and big business, no way are they going to prevent trade happening. I live in the UK BTW and for the first time Labour seem like a no-brainer, unless you have 3 houses and eark £100kpa + anyway.....
  • 2 3
@Racer951: labour for no brainers ,how unliberal of you ,judging the mentally impaired labour voter tutut, and I thought consevatives were mercenary unfeeling capitilists.
  • 3 0
@unleash: come again? I'm not sure what you mean, genuinely.
  • 1 1
I've been running a compact guide for about a month now and absolutely love it. Keep up the good work!

How about some linkage bolts for bikes other than santa's
