XCC Photo Epic: Leogang XC World Cup 2023

Riders didn't have long to rest their legs from last weekend's racing in Lenzerheide as they got back between the tape for the lung-busting bar-to-bar fight of short track racing.

The U23 riders were the first on course as we saw more wins from Ronja Blöchlinger and Adrien Boichis as they are proving to be the riders to beat in the short course format.

A day later and after a wet and windy afternoon that saw a disrupted downhill qualifying session the Elite Women took on the now treacherous course. The conditions were best handled by Pauline Ferrand Prevot and Puck Pieterse who battled at the front throughout the five laps with the World Champion just pulling ahead at the end of the race to lead the round one XC winner Puck Pieterse by five seconds. Evie Richards stayed right on their rear wheels and secured a great third-place finish.

Next up was the Elite Men and after his commanding win in Lenzerheide all eyes were on the powerhouse of Luca Schwarzbauer. A hectic race in the greasy conditions saw another close race between Schwarzbauer and Jordan Sarrou with either rider looking capable of the win. By the last lap, it was the Leogang 2020 XC World Champ winner who took home the top podium position by just two seconds. Martins Blums had an incredible ride to end his day in third.

The elite and U23 now have a short rest before the XCO action gets underway on Sunday.

If you see any of that as an invalid complaint I cant help. At least there is coverage! The commentary from Ric is painful. He’s had months to do some XC research and he still says some pretty dumb stuff. Too many things to list. I guess if ya know ya know.
The drone coverage is a cool addition, don’t get me wrong but it isnt exactly great, come on… At least there was no overuse of the birds eye view shot this weekend its a pretty pointless shot when used multiple times a lap. The camera positioning is more my issue. They had no camera for the rock roll last weekend, and one of the descents this weekend only has the chase drone? To be honest Id wager its the same TV crews doing it all as last year and UCI/Discovery have very little if any say.

WOW the white socks white shoes combo is something!!! Smile

it would be nicer if we had video of racing

You can and I'd say the investment of 33€ for a whole year of racing has already been worth it for me Smile

Its a small investment. You do have to listen to the uneducated XC commentary from Ric McLaughlin and is constant repeating exactly what Bart just said, but its still worth it... Definitely not as well done as RedBull though with soe poorly planned camera locations. Hopefully they improve.

@WRXJim: you just want to complain right? There are just so many more cameras + drones than Redbull ever cared providing.

@opignonlibre: I agree! I honestly think the coverage is even slightly better than in RB-times. The stationary cameras (at least in XC) cover every inch of the course and then they’ve got all their drones on top of that! Ialso really like the amount of small interviews they do shortly before and after the race Smile

@opignonlibre: I dont agree, but thats ok.. I certainly didnt "just complain" but solid come back '-) I even said it was a small and worthwhile investment to pay for GCN+. Guess you missed that?
Go back and watch last years Leogang, or Lenzerheide on RedBull and see what you think?
The birds eye shot from the drone is ok once or twice a race, but it was over done last weekend. Thankfully they used it for the side shots this week.
Im just thankful its televised and done well. nothing wrong with asking for even better is there?
