Brian's Day 1 Randoms - Eurobike 2023
I was sat by our 3D printer today. Good lord....it is such a slow, tedious way to make a thing.

Garmin Launch Solar-Powered Edge 540 & Edge 840
@vinay: I run a Remedy with a dynamo hub. Unless you're riding on the flat for long periods (which you shouldn't be, because you're a mountain biker) charging USB devices doesn't work. You're either going uphill, too slowly to charge anything properly, or you're going Downhill fast...for just a few minutes at a time. Which, again, doesn't charge anything properly. For lights that always work though, it's bloody great.

Trek Releases New Line of Cycling Apparel
Cotton came from the soil. Plastic came from the oil. And once you've weaved them together, you've made a hybrid that can't currently be separated. So the Cotton can't go back to the soil, and the Polyester can't be recycled. You could use it as a rag for a while...but ultimately it's off to the landfill or incinerator.

Review: Leatt 7.0 HydraDri Waterproof Flat Pedal Shoes
@BigMulaCeazy: Good point on the chemicals, a lot of our 'technical' gear needs some pretty nasty manufacturing methods. And the only 2 acceptable end of life options seem to be landfill or incineration. Great at insulating us from the environment - terrible at going back into the environment.

I'd take any level of cold and rain over an exercise bike. The point of a bike is to move.

Amen @BigMulaCeazy. The uppers can take a battering for years and years, but the sole is toast in months. I have been trying to fix my GR5s with some old stealth rubber and it's an absolute messy nightmare. We should demand that replacement soles are available for all flat pedal shoes. And that they can be easily replaced at home, or by the most lazy cobbler.
