Video: Finn Iles - I Wanted to be the Junior That Came Out and Dominated
As a working sound engineer, stuff like this always makes sad... there's so much bad audio in the world.

Opinion: Carbon and Aluminum Wheels - Does Stiffer Always Mean Better?
Changing your handlebar grips can make a big difference in comfort and fatigue. What works great on a suspended bike can be painful on a rigid adventure bike. So yes, bikes are systems where all the parts need to work together as a whole for the best results. Good article, Matt.

Review: MicroSHIFT's New $125 Advent Drivetrain
@speed10: For me, it's the strength of the chain, and for most stock drivetrain setups, 3x9 has the most range with a nice, even spread between the rear cogs on 11-34 cassettes. I do loaded tours and like to spin up climbs. I hate pushing my bike and rarely, if ever, have to do so. The wife and I do loaded touring on our tandem and I put a 3x9 setup there as well. I don't have to change the front rings that often, and we're on the big ring the most, but it's nice to have the low end when we need it.

Review: MicroSHIFT's New $125 Advent Drivetrain
@pacificnorthwet: Not take anything away from what MicroSHIFT has done, and bravo by the way, but Sunrace has made an 11-40 9 Speed cassette in 2 versions for quite a while now. With a 22/34 low gear on my XC bike, I've never needed anything lower. I still like the 2x9 setup. I have a 3x9 on my adventure bike. I'm old. I like to spin. ;-)

Halo Release Entry Level Trail Wheelset & Tubeless Accessories Range
*pushes glasses up nose* The Shimano freehub body was designed to be made from steel originally for the very reasons that caused problems with aluminum freehub bodies. But, all of those issues have been solved with cogs mounted on spiders and anti-bite guard designs, obviously. Still, it is nice to see a sensible build for this wheelset. Looks nice.

Video: Specialized's Farewell to Kate Courtney
@wingguy: I work at Nike. This is true. They stopped all golf equipment production and now only make apparel. They are bigger in golf apparel than all other brands, but they never made a dent in clubs and balls and bags. They don't like not being #1 in anything, so they gave up to stop losing money.

Good Month / Bad Month: Fairness, Ohlins, Fuji, Sending It, & More - November 2018
My local Performance Bike shop (Beaverton, OR) is closing. There are 2 other stores in the Portland Metro area, Tualatin and Mall 205 in the Gateway District in Portland. The downtown Portland store closed years ago. I don't the status of the other 2 stores. I have mixed feelings about all of it. They tended to employ a lot of folks who didn't know very much about bikes in the Beaverton store. Have only been to the other 2 stores a handful of times. The Tualatin store is the biggest of all of them but every time I went, I was usually the only customer in the entire place. The Mall 205 location is cramped and messy. Seems to me they botched it up themselves. I can count on one hand the number of Fuji bikes I've seen on the streets or trails here in the area over the years. I can say for me personally that I don't care for the look of their bikes at all and have never considered buying one. I did appreciate the convenience of the local PB, but was never all that jazzed about the service or personnel. Still, it sucks that they are potentially losing their jobs...
