The results are in from the second day of racing at the 2024 Cape Epic. After 88km of racing, the Ghost Factory Racing and the World Bicycle Relief teams still lead the overall standings after some close stage times.

Anne Terpstra and Nicole Koller continued their strong form from the prologue stage as they managed to hold a lead of just one second against Mona Mitterwallner and Candice Lill of the Cannondale Factory Racing squad. As the teams head into day three, the Ghost Factory Racing team lead the general classification by 1:06, with another five minutes back to the third-placed team.

Nino Schurter and Sebastian Fini couldn't match their winning speed from the prologue as they ended day two behind the Buff Megamo team of Hans Becking and Wout Alleman. The deficit was just two seconds, so the Buff Megamo team was still around a minute and a half back from the race leader of Schurter and Fini. Matthew Beers and Howard Grotts lost 21 seconds to today's stage winners, but they still sit 2nd place overall with a 1:10 gap to the current race leaders.

Check out the results from stage 1 below and we will be updating this page with analysis and highlights from the second day of racing.

Full Stage Replay:

bigquotesBravery will be required on Stage 1. Tulbagh, once a frontier town, is still an untamed mountain biking destination. New trails and established challenges ensure a fittingly difficult day. Four major climbs punctuate the day with Raptor Rise setting a tone of sweeping switchbacks through fynbos, continued by Boegoe and the Kliprivier Trails. Fanti’s Pass, infamous in its intensity ensures the day’s elevation gain easily exceeds 2 000 meters.

It’s not just all challenges and climbing though. Singletracks, never before ridden in a race, like Jan se Bos offer a welcome reward for uphill toils, as do established trails like Assegaaibos and God’s Window.

dear pinkbike, why the fuck would you lock trailforks basemaps behind a subscription
  • 14 0
Because Pinkbike as it once was is owned by Outside, as well as Trailforks. You know, the same company that sent you a Men’s Journal subscription when they shuttered Bike Mag, rather send you a refund as they should have.

After many years asking to the people upload their trails for free, now you jave to pay for see your own trails uploaded to Trailforks :S That's how these apps works, fill the information and I will ask you to pay after for it.

@fabriciofracchia: that's what pisses me off, they freeloaded off data from people, and now lock it behind a paywall and profit off the free data

@stephenzkie: not that it makes it ok, but im pretty sure the browser version is free if you're ever in a trail searching pickle

@endoguru: BikeMag / Beta, great readMTB. Then I got Men's Journal, now Sports Illusttrated, both in the recycle bin immediately. Yeah, a refund would've been better. Bastards...

@NomadNinja: same thing I do/did. Even though I immediately canceled anything to do with Outside, including Trailforks, they still send me bothnof those useless rags so I have to deal with throwing them in the trash.

@endoguru: Wow I just now understood why I was getting Men's Journal for 1/2 a year...

@fabriciofracchia: they contacted our local trail steward that made the maps and wanted our data. he told them no! i guess they were pretty persistent
