Chain Reaction Cycles Won't Sell You Shimano Parts if You're in North America
@sherbet: Shimano didn't do that because Shimano North America and Shimano Europe are separate, and in a way compete against each other. CRC's in house brands were likely buying additional units of OE groups and separating parts for online sales; Shimano didn't care because at the end of the day the volume is high and those people willing to look to buy parts online would likely choose Shimano OVER Sram because of the low price. Working at a bike shop for the past 15 years I have seen this issue increase year over year as the internet has grown, and while I personally even directed people to buy from Merlin / CRC I always hated the fact that some big corporate company was benefiting off of the profits of Shimanos lack of pricing control. All of the shops I worked at have contributed to local trail groups, non profits, advocacy, give a ways... these are things that help support the local community, CRC isn't pumping money into IMBA, NICA, any trail efforts or anything really that helps us as a community. Anyway this is a good direction for North America, but unless Shimano starts cracking down on some of the other places, then this problem wont end here.

@Motoracer31: I worked at a giant dealer for over 10 years and can say they have a solid warranty department who approved way more than I would have expected... In a few cases they even warrantied 7-8 year old 26in bikes even though they didn't make 26 inch bikes anymore! Obviously they didn't have the replacements in stock either so they ended up giving those customers a hefty credit towards a new bike. Pretty solid IMO.

@Clarkeh: Giant had a trance 29 in 2013... a bunch of people thought that it, and other brands "longer" travel 29ers rode like dog turds, so they pushed for 27.5 long travel bikes. Now the circle is complete.

Specialized Announces Custom Stumpjumper Program
Id rather have a mfg quote 60days and deliver earlier, than quote 30 days and come in at 60... I'm not sure which side of the spectrum Special-ed will fall but I wish them good luck on delivering early. Ive lost a few sales over the years because a company said they had a bike in stock and it would be 3-4 weeks til delivery... then 8 weeks later there's still no bike available so the customer decides to use their deposit on something else or is refunded. Whats worse than loosing the sale is loosing the customer though.
