Tree Root Pierces Harriet Harnden's Foot at Round 1 of the British National Downhill Series
Anyone else do a double take and think her muddy leg was a tree limb? Hopefully she recovers quickly. Doesn't sound pleasant at all

5 Key Stats From Women in the Pinkbike State of the Sport Survey 2024
@smith888: yes I'm aware of that - I mean league as in same level of the sport. Thanks for clarifying. If a male Olympian was included in this but a female Olympian wasn't, that would likely skew the data. Ability within their respective field would also likely influence it.

5 Key Stats From Women in the Pinkbike State of the Sport Survey 2024
It's very easy to look at a basic pie chart and say "look! pay gap!" It's another thing altogether to toss the stats in Minitab or Excel and run actual statistics tests. What's the mean and variance? How does pay stack up versus team, time spent racing, number of podiums, etc? Are there women in the same league (literally) as those 2 top-paid men included in this survey? Are there even women in that league? How does Nino Schurter stack up against Jolanda Neff and Pauline Ferrand-Prevot? To be clear, I'm not saying that women aren't underpaid, or have an edge over men. However, there are lies, damned lies, and statistics, and there's no way of telling what these stats mean without more data.

First Ride: Atherton S170 - Long Travel & Lugged Aluminum
@johnny2shoes: hey, it's steel and aluminum, not carbon fiber and aluminum. Much closer on the galvanic series and much harder to screw up! That being said, if you're offering to donate an oxy setup, just let me know :D @pbuser2299 more than Pivot likes Kerr?

First Ride: Atherton S170 - Long Travel & Lugged Aluminum
"Yeah Gee, all we had laying around was this 7075, so we sanded the ends a bit and JB welded those suckers into the lugs. It'll be great, they love epoxied stuff!" Does anyone have an idea of the mechanical properties of their bonding agent? I've been thinking of machining my own lugs for a gravel bike for my girlfriend, but I don't have an oxyacetylene brazing setup, and JB weld would be... convenient

@KJP1230: Shimano cassette with AXS derailleur?... I feel like I'm missing something here. I'm super curious how that works, because I've definitely thought of GX AXS but can't afford a full drivetrain swap.

California Highway Patrol Arrests Suspect in Hit & Run That Seriously Injured Derek Teel
@plyawn: 100% agree. I try to bike to classes or work every day, barring ice storms and subzero highs. Nothing to destress like a short 4-mile commute, you see things you don't see in a car, and it unironically improves your ability to think by getting the blood flowing. I would love singletrack or rough doubletrack to work, but I'll still take pavement over the bus and lightrail any day. Something something "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness," at least down here (not that we have any qualms infringing on the rights of others)

2023 Pinkbike Awards: Mountain Bike of the Year Winner
It's an enduro- and DH-focused site, not sure what you'd expect. I wish they'd do content more relevant to other areas (i.e. the Midwest, where there's no mountains), but I don't blame them. I like the site even if I'll never ride or have any use for these 170mm monster trucks or visit any of the PNW
