Four years have passed since the death of Steve Smith, Canada's greatest downhill mountain bike athlete. Today we should celebrate the incredible person he was and the lasting legacy he has left upon the sport. From his segment in Seasons where his mum Tianna Smith shuttled him to the top of the mountain for lap after training lap, to his success on the World Cup circuit. To this day he remains the last Canadian rider to win on home soil after the exhilarating World Cup round at Mont Sainte-Anne in 2013.

But he was more than just a driven athlete and fierce competitor, Smith was humble and grounded off the track and a strong influence on all aspiring Canadian gravity racers and many other riders around the world. Steve proved that it was possible for Canadians to be at the highest level.

 The best mummy’s boy ever. His mum seems awesome as well so I’m not surprised.

 What’s the title of the video? I want to see it but don’t have the time to watch them all.

 @pipomax: Seasons

 @Moe2344: I showed this to my kids. The boys were asking a lot of questions about Stevie and I got choked up talking about it. It’s funny how that can happen with someone you didn’t know.

 @meathooker: I showed it to my step sons, who are just catching the riding bug. It made me nostalgic and go back and explain the history of our sport and show them old videos. Hoping it inspires them to share my passion.

 I have the longlivechainsaw stickers on all my top tubes so I think about him every time I go out for a ride. Just an awesome personality and talent on a bike and I feel fortunate for being able to watch his career develop and live out his dream to put Canada on top of the WC scene. You're not alone when the tears come out watching old clips of Stevie, he will always have a special place for all of us who watched his career grow. Ride in peace Stevie!

 He's the only rider I used to wake up at 2am to watch his race runs live. No one attacked like Steve. He made every Canadian proud

 I have been working on something special the past couple of months with the hopes of having it done for today but with how disjointed the world is currently, alot of what I needed was late or held up. Cannot wait to show it once it is complete, hopefully it does Stevie's legacy justice.

 Legend. Makes me sad to this day thinking what could have been. Safe to say he inspired a whole generation of riders here on the island. RIP Stevie.

 I grew up riding on the island where he learned his craft. I rode and rode but never like Steve. He was fearless and Canadian like Gord and so many before him. Proud to remember this warrior and say to all those youngsters - be like Steve - be humble, be fast, and be Canadian.

 This still hurts.... something about Stevie Smith that made us super proud on the world stage. I'll never forget screaming at my screen when he came down the final stretch at MSA. LLC

 I remember that video where Stevie came 2nd after Sam Hill in Mt Psychosis. I thought man this guy is up there with the best! Few years later and he won the world cup overall. RIP Stevie.

 It is really fun to be reminded of how great a rider and a person he was. I truly believe he (and unfortunately his death) has made UCI DH a more "friendly" environment for the competitors. Almost every pro enjoys their competitors great performances and it motivates themselves to ride faster. Are there any other pro level sports where this many competitors are friends? What a great sport. Thank you Steve Smith.
