Get a brew on and watch some sloppy, wet and wild 'RAW' action as Welsh wild man, Emyr Davies, returns home after a season of racing and travelling to ride a secret DH track, deep in the woods. Dishing out plenty of roots, rocks and enough slop to make for some near escapes and wild riding...
Dude I used to live in London (some of my mates still do) and we would do day trips out to Wales on the train from Paddington station out to Cardiff or Port Talbot then ride, we were riding with enduro bikes like so didn't mind a little cycle from the station to trails so not sure how possible it would be with a DH bike.
@rpinney206 Down south there is quite a lot actually: Swinley, Surrey Hills, Tidworth, Aston Hill, PORC, Rogate my favourite even in the slop, MIdhurst, bull track, and butts brow.
Yea man, Butts Brow is my local trail, spend a lot of time in Friston Forest, some great twisty single track and a few short dh runs. Some great long distance trail / xc stuff on the South Downs too. A thriving local mtb scene around here and some great shops, Evo Cycles being the best imo
@rpinney dude i would recommend some stuff round Forest of dean, up towards Stroud my local and Tidworth might not be so far too give us a shout if you decide too
Yea, Eastbourne has loads to offer really, Surrey hills are sick as is Wales - make sure you ride with people that know the first two areas (free offer here) so that you get the best out of it all!
train from paddington to Cardiff is two hours. train from cardiff to merthyr is about 30 mins. from there you can pedal right in to bike park wales. however, i would suggest buying a cheap banger of a car. i had one when i lived in west London just to get out of town on the weekends. you can normally get a parking permit in most areas of london. that wasy you can do surrey missions as well and dont have to pay extortionate train fares. safeasfuck
Great to see my old tracks still getting some use Ems, top vid! 10 years ago I think it was the hardest thing anyone had ridden.. Some cool looking new sections aswell, good work. Miss that place and all you locals. Need to get up there again soon, I could literally spend hours sessioning that track! And I could definitely spend hours listening to Buds, Dai and Glynn in full flow after a few beers at Stables! Good times
North Wales still doing her thing! Some of the local lads have been building all sorts up there, and plenty of the classic stuff still going from strength to strength. Love it.
@sibaggott respect to you . we had a smaller hill in Derbyshire and built the same type of tracks. scary head scratching and tech...amazing fun when you get it right though..shout out to all the ambergate crew
Just watched this vid and yours of Moel Y Ci. Looks like great fun. Nice to see some tracks in the UK that remind me of the riding here (I now live at the base of the North Shore (Fromme etc) in North Vancouver). Just wondered what tires you guys prefer over there? Go to tires here tend to be Kenda Navigals and Maxxis Minions. When I lived in the UK I ran trailrakers. Whats the current thinking for AM tires in the mud of the UK?
@ricardomarron every one has their favourite but the most common seems to Magic Mary for winter DH riding, they're everywhere.Sometimes a Dirty Dan on the front if it's really muddy. For winter trail bike stuff personally i like a high roller II on the back and a Mary on the front, for summer i'll swap the Mary for a Minion. That set up is same for summer DH too.
I'm moving from bone-dry California to a wet, dark root-strewn place. I went for a ride there and felt out of control, back to noob-square-1! It's a different game.
'Boggin'...Wenglish dictionary definition ' a trail that never really dries out, its' either wet, wetter or wettest', may or may not feature running water or be close to or form part of a water course.
classical North Wales: wet woods and a Border Collie. I love that place, wish I can go back to pay a visit there. .....great trail great ride by the way.
Totally made my day watching a video where we get to see the amount of skill these pro level riders have and that even they smoke a tree / lay down a high side once in a while. Great vid!
Wish I had the time to ride full time. Experience builds great skills and you top that up with some raw talent and you get Ems ripp'n it up at home. I need to practice that tree hit, so how do you avoid clipping your bars after a tree bonk at rolling speed? Sweet vid.
I am sure he said the word 'Slow' a few times there... but he must have been talking about someone / somewhere else.... cos what he is doing is deffinately not slow
It's funny, thats where i'm from and where i grew up but i was unfamiliar with mountain biking back then, I moved to Vancouver go figure, worked out pretty good.
Haha that dog wasn't having a bar of that river crossing: Not impressed!
I love that place, wish I can go back to pay a visit there.
.....great trail great ride by the way.
