Get a brew on and watch some sloppy, wet and wild 'RAW' action as Welsh wild man, Emyr Davies, returns home after a season of racing and travelling to ride a secret DH track, deep in the woods. Dishing out plenty of roots, rocks and enough slop to make for some near escapes and wild riding...

God that looked slippery and difficult! Fun as well though

Haha that dog wasn't having a bar of that river crossing: Not impressed!

such a sick video. this is what riding in the uk is about, super tech plus slick conditions. not surprising we have so many sick riders

I'm moving to UK in 3 weeks!!! I need to find people to ride with, taking the train from London to Wales looks pretty time consuming...
  • 2 0
i'm not from down south myself but i'm sure there's a plenty of spots to be found if you ask around. if you ever head sheffield way let me know man

Brendon faircolough is from London and from the videos he posts his local trails look awesome. I'd start by finding those.
  • 1 0
@mattvanders thanks, I'm gonna be right by Paddington Station and Hyde Park but I will check that out
  • 3 0
@thenotoriousmic That would be peaslake, surrey hill. Met him over there before. Top riding in the area from xc to proper big DH stuff

Dude I used to live in London (some of my mates still do) and we would do day trips out to Wales on the train from Paddington station out to Cardiff or Port Talbot then ride, we were riding with enduro bikes like so didn't mind a little cycle from the station to trails so not sure how possible it would be with a DH bike.

@rpinney206 Down south there is quite a lot actually: Swinley, Surrey Hills, Tidworth, Aston Hill, PORC, Rogate my favourite even in the slop, MIdhurst, bull track, and butts brow.
  • 2 0
Yea man, Butts Brow is my local trail, spend a lot of time in Friston Forest, some great twisty single track and a few short dh runs. Some great long distance trail / xc stuff on the South Downs too. A thriving local mtb scene around here and some great shops, Evo Cycles being the best imo
  • 2 0
@rpinney dude i would recommend some stuff round Forest of dean, up towards Stroud my local and Tidworth might not be so far too give us a shout if you decide too

i would probably kill myself before ridding down in all that slippery mud and rocks. shit is waaay too much lolol

If you head Dorset way then look me up, we have some fun spots..........and great beaches
  • 2 1
 Danbury Common bro!
  • 1 2
Yea, Eastbourne has loads to offer really, Surrey hills are sick as is Wales - make sure you ride with people that know the first two areas (free offer here) so that you get the best out of it all!

I have no idea why I'm being down voted?

train from paddington to Cardiff is two hours. train from cardiff to merthyr is about 30 mins. from there you can pedal right in to bike park wales. however, i would suggest buying a cheap banger of a car. i had one when i lived in west London just to get out of town on the weekends. you can normally get a parking permit in most areas of london. that wasy you can do surrey missions as well and dont have to pay extortionate train fares. safeasfuck

Why did this get a negative response, it seems fair to me. I think the area gets referred to as the Surrey Hills

It's no wonder Brits dominate the WC

Great to see my old tracks still getting some use Ems, top vid! 10 years ago I think it was the hardest thing anyone had ridden.. Some cool looking new sections aswell, good work. Miss that place and all you locals. Need to get up there again soon, I could literally spend hours sessioning that track! And I could definitely spend hours listening to Buds, Dai and Glynn in full flow after a few beers at Stables! Good times Smile

North Wales still doing her thing! Some of the local lads have been building all sorts up there, and plenty of the classic stuff still going from strength to strength. Love it.

 Locals only?
  • 2 0
@sibaggott respect to you . we had a smaller hill in Derbyshire and built the same type of tracks. scary head scratching and tech...amazing fun when you get it right though..shout out to all the ambergate crew

I know this track and helped dig a section of it. Looks nasty on the vid, it's 5 times nastier in person. Em's is bonkers!!

Finding the secret trails is just as hard as riding them!

Just watched this vid and yours of Moel Y Ci. Looks like great fun. Nice to see some tracks in the UK that remind me of the riding here (I now live at the base of the North Shore (Fromme etc) in North Vancouver). Just wondered what tires you guys prefer over there? Go to tires here tend to be Kenda Navigals and Maxxis Minions. When I lived in the UK I ran trailrakers. Whats the current thinking for AM tires in the mud of the UK?

 Magic Mary's dude
  • 2 0
The Bontrager SE5's have been running sweet for me so far this winter!
  • 1 0
@ricardomarron every one has their favourite but the most common seems to Magic Mary for winter DH riding, they're everywhere.Sometimes a Dirty Dan on the front if it's really muddy. For winter trail bike stuff personally i like a high roller II on the back and a Mary on the front, for summer i'll swap the Mary for a Minion. That set up is same for summer DH too.

not an IMBA approved trail... must be good!

I'm moving from bone-dry California to a wet, dark root-strewn place. I went for a ride there and felt out of control, back to noob-square-1! It's a different game.

This is exactly how I feel after moving to Korea last August. Moved from desert and alpine trails to a crazy mix of terrain and moisture. Humbling.

'Boggin'...Wenglish dictionary definition ' a trail that never really dries out, its' either wet, wetter or wettest', may or may not feature running water or be close to or form part of a water course.
  • 2 1
 Sounds like Foel Gasnach!

 Wetter than an otters pocket

This is what I call a technical trail! Smile

classical North Wales: wet woods and a Border Collie.
I love that place, wish I can go back to pay a visit there.
.....great trail great ride by the way.

Totally made my day watching a video where we get to see the amount of skill these pro level riders have and that even they smoke a tree / lay down a high side once in a while. Great vid!
  • 1 0
Wish I had the time to ride full time. Experience builds great skills and you top that up with some raw talent and you get Ems ripp'n it up at home. I need to practice that tree hit, so how do you avoid clipping your bars after a tree bonk at rolling speed? Sweet vid.
  • 2 0
ahh, reminds me of home in west county...but now in the great NW i auda be findin' some lines like that under the canopy soon enuf!

I am sure he said the word 'Slow' a few times there... but he must have been talking about someone / somewhere else.... cos what he is doing is deffinately not slow
  • 2 0
I can't even begin to imagine how slick this is, and he's got it wide open!! Top guy

Locals only indeed Hell of a track!
  • 2 0
Looks a lot like my local DH trail, just longer. We're not blessed with many hills where I live.
  • 2 0
You live in Scotland - isn't that just one massive hill?
  • 3 0
Lol, yes, just not where I live Smile Ayrshire, near the sea so got to go a bit further in land for decent hills.
  • 2 0
Nice to see you still on a bike Ems. I guess practise on quarry near Cardiff is not as much fun like this trail .
  • 2 0
this track has got to be one of my favs.... in the wet it just wants to kill you tho.
