When he says take it to the "next level", i think there are a lot more levels in between a bump hop and a "bump hop 180 nose manual". His "levels" are skewed.
Bump hopping? I always considered this as casing the first step. Although this may make it possible to hop higher, it still just doesnt feel right. Like manualing with brakes.
I did that all the time when I first started bunny hopping, back tire only. I was kind of ashamed of it, because I thought of it as cheating myself. I forced myself to stop doing it, and focused on getting my hops as high as possible with out bumping, now I find out its acceptable.
DH Productions "Tricktionary" with Jeff Lenosky and Aaron Chase was really well done and broken down step by step. Danny's vid is pretty good and probably shot within a day though I agree it could use a little more content in its explanations.
Given that Danny MacAskill has top talent, it is unfortunate that this tutorial series is so underdeveloped. There is nothing in the text or in what is said in the audio that is not quite obvious from one or two views of the video.
The only mtb instruction that I've seen yet that is adequate is the Lopes/McCormack book _Mastering mtb Skills_. The new mtb The Manual book is a dissapointment.
Why is mtb instruction so underdeveloped? There is so much going on in what MacAskill is doing and VERY LITTLE of it is explained here.
probably because most of it is actually really hard to explain, and i think by far the best way to learn is work it out for yourself and practice, or ride with people who are better than you. i agree though mastering mountain bike skills is a very good book
mtbfunfunfun- its because riding bikes isn't the same for everyone. So many things are by feel and making it work or you. There is a reason there are coaches that can work with you personally to help you progress.
I would like to see him doing that on the Brazilian stairs ( shit steps here, 20cm tall ones, big, burlier and nasty ones) Hey MacAskill u're the one i really would like to have 10% of your skill "EDIT(why this keeping happing with me? (double posts)"
ah right. so i'm trying to bounce of a smaller kerb bit. do you kinda of push the tyre into the kerb first and then use the rebound off that as you pull a bunny hop? i don't think i'll try it as i'm liable to smash my face into the steps. lol.
been doing that forever (well like 35 yrs anyway, like since I was 10) usually just use the front tire only but add the back to get a good kick for extra height. try a root or rock to get an easy hop over a big log or use the big log as a launch to clear what may lie on the other side. not cheating especially when your an old bastard like me.

I just to do that trick sometimes deliberately and sometimes by accident (when I bunny hop unsuccessfully). I didn't even know that it is called Bump Hop
you cant do the tricks he does without the bump hop, even a bunny hop wont allow you to 360 up a set of 4 stairs, the BH allows you to complete the rotation...practice, really works..
These are quite cool i guess but the instructions are pretty vague. It's not that much more detailed than just saying "go to some stairs, bump hop up then, you win"
He's forgetting that were not Danny MacAskill...
then a saw a bright white light
its 26inch isnt it?

he makes it all look so simple. genius.
