DESCRIPTION: If weight is your concern, think no further: This system creates an environment of maximum strength while only adding a mere 23g during the replacement of the Thomson rail interface. No longer will you have to deal with bent rails, broken seat posts, or finding a robust light-weight seating system.

^^^no, that one looks retarded and just attaches on top of the post. This one is a whole new and separate attachment. This is a great idea

Reality 'Redesigned.' This is the product that could actually sell, in large numbers. But there's nothing 'new' here. I'd rather see a radical, crazy design fall a little short of production, and open designers' eyes to new possibilities and directions.

Plus that is a t-rail to standard twin rails converter, thos is standard seatpost to t-rail converter

Agreed. Great execution. The piece is very clean, not over engineerd. Looks like Thomson could've made it that way.

I think it should be called "reality refined" bicycles as they are at the moment work absolutely fine, there is no need for radical changes, that is why i think this is the best product so far. However, as some people have pointed out below, it will probably be more cost effective just to but a new saddle or seat post to suit.

I would definitely buy this. Love I-beam seats and obviously love thomson posts. Win Win.

Unless they have heads with different seat rail angles, this wont fit all the frames out there.

@tetopluz, i dont even underdstand how that would work. it doesnt seem to make any sense. plus, it doesnt offer any thing better in a seat/post adjustability. it simply converts one to the other. the thompson ibeam adapter, offers a greater amount of adjustability, because you have the maximum fore and aft movement of the seat that you get with an ibeam seat/post, combined with angle adjustability found in a thompson(or traditional) style seat/post. this new product is honestly a great idea, i would definitely save up 60-70smackers to buy it.

The best option would be for Thompson to buy the idea and produce it as a complete post

Plus I am sure Thomson could take at least 15g out of the design with relieved or removed areas.

Not sure why anyone would bother with this. The adapter would cost as much as an SDG seatpost which is already as light as a Thompson.
  • - 5
flag seraph (May 23, 2012 at 14:10) (Below Threshold) show comment
The SDG post is not as light as a Thomson.
  • + 5
flag PhoS (May 23, 2012 at 14:49)
Look it up , I own both. And you'd be adding a +50g adapter anyways.
  • + 0
flag seraph (May 23, 2012 at 14:58)
But you'd be subtracting the weight of the railed head assembly. Also the Masterpiece is undoubtedly lighter than the I-Beam post in the same diameter/length.
  • + 4
flag PhoS (May 23, 2012 at 15:37)
Thompson is listed at 193g for 330mm SDG micro carbon is listed at 200g for 400mm My point is that the adapter is still irrelevant, not how much money you can waste on a seatpost.

a decent take on a simple niche product. Someone pointed this out last time around, and it should probably just be noted that something similar already exists - similar not the same...

Great idea, and should see itself into production. Great for those who want an I-beam saddle but ride a reverb or similar It may not be the most out there but it is actually functional and fixes an existing problem rather than creating new ones.

As I said on the original post, an I beam seatpost actually weighs less than a thompson, and is far less expensive as well. This is something that doesn't need to exist.

I like how well done the product is, and how there is already a prototype out there. My only issue is the market. If I am dropping the money on a Thompson seat post, you can guarantee I am NOT buying an I-Beam seat. And I know I am not the only one who feels that way.

I need to get into that business consulting thing they keep popping up in all of these. You get to just sit around and tell people what to do with their products. I mean really? Is that really a necessary expense in product development?

It looks like the designer doesn't necessarily need this contest to get his product off of the ground, but it's been a hell of a marketing tool for him. I agree that this is by far the most viable and most complete product in this competition. Get yourself a patent, pronto!

The producers of ibeam saddles like core should make a universal adapter and include it with every saddle. Eventually the industry would accept it as a new standard
