DESCRIPTION: If weight is your concern, think no further: This system creates an environment of maximum strength while only adding a mere 23g during the replacement of the Thomson rail interface. No longer will you have to deal with bent rails, broken seat posts, or finding a robust light-weight seating system.

best possible product out of the bunch

So far this is the only product I would actually buy.

^^^no, that one looks retarded and just attaches on top of the post. This one is a whole new and separate attachment. This is a great idea

Reality 'Redesigned.' This is the product that could actually sell, in large numbers. But there's nothing 'new' here. I'd rather see a radical, crazy design fall a little short of production, and open designers' eyes to new possibilities and directions.

Plus that is a t-rail to standard twin rails converter, thos is standard seatpost to t-rail converter
  • 5 2
Agreed. Great execution. The piece is very clean, not over engineerd. Looks like Thomson could've made it that way.

 Now we're cookin' with gas.

I think it should be called "reality refined" bicycles as they are at the moment work absolutely fine, there is no need for radical changes, that is why i think this is the best product so far. However, as some people have pointed out below, it will probably be more cost effective just to but a new saddle or seat post to suit.

I would definitely buy this. Love I-beam seats and obviously love thomson posts. Win Win.

Unless they have heads with different seat rail angles, this wont fit all the frames out there.

@tetopluz, i dont even underdstand how that would work. it doesnt seem to make any sense. plus, it doesnt offer any thing better in a seat/post adjustability. it simply converts one to the other. the thompson ibeam adapter, offers a greater amount of adjustability, because you have the maximum fore and aft movement of the seat that you get with an ibeam seat/post, combined with angle adjustability found in a thompson(or traditional) style seat/post. this new product is honestly a great idea, i would definitely save up 60-70smackers to buy it.

 perfect for my bike
  • 19 2
definitely the most viable product I've seen so far..
  • 11 10
The other products were far from fine tuned, but at least they tried something. There is no new idea in this one.
  • 12 2
The best option would be for Thompson to buy the idea and produce it as a complete post
  • 5 1
Plus I am sure Thomson could take at least 15g out of the design with relieved or removed areas.
  • 9 1
Not sure why anyone would bother with this. The adapter would cost as much as an SDG seatpost which is already as light as a Thompson.

The SDG post is not as light as a Thomson.
  • 6 1
Look it up , I own both. And you'd be adding a +50g adapter anyways.
  • 2 2
But you'd be subtracting the weight of the railed head assembly. Also the Masterpiece is undoubtedly lighter than the I-Beam post in the same diameter/length.
  • 4 0
Thompson is listed at 193g for 330mm SDG micro carbon is listed at 200g for 400mm My point is that the adapter is still irrelevant, not how much money you can waste on a seatpost.
  • 4 1
Great idea, and should see itself into production. Great for those who want an I-beam saddle but ride a reverb or similar It may not be the most out there but it is actually functional and fixes an existing problem rather than creating new ones.

a decent take on a simple niche product. Someone pointed this out last time around, and it should probably just be noted that something similar already exists - similar not the same...

As I said on the original post, an I beam seatpost actually weighs less than a thompson, and is far less expensive as well. This is something that doesn't need to exist.
  • 2 2
I like how well done the product is, and how there is already a prototype out there. My only issue is the market. If I am dropping the money on a Thompson seat post, you can guarantee I am NOT buying an I-Beam seat. And I know I am not the only one who feels that way.
  • 2 2
I need to get into that business consulting thing they keep popping up in all of these. You get to just sit around and tell people what to do with their products. I mean really? Is that really a necessary expense in product development?
  • 1 1
It looks like the designer doesn't necessarily need this contest to get his product off of the ground, but it's been a hell of a marketing tool for him. I agree that this is by far the most viable and most complete product in this competition. Get yourself a patent, pronto!
  • 3 1
I tried to find one if these the other day for my reverb . get it produced so I can buy one
  • 3 1
Agreed decent idea. Actually a market for this unlike fantasy frames that will never be built
  • 2 0
If that seat already exist - then what is it attaching too, if this type of seat post attachment isn't already out there?
  • 1 0
it is but not a thompson post?
  • 1 0
The producers of ibeam saddles like core should make a universal adapter and include it with every saddle. Eventually the industry would accept it as a new standard

I am currently working on a project with Mike. I am working on getting funding for it. He is truly an inspiration and I cannot tell you how awesome it is to be working with him. Here is a link to a teaser we are producing for the film: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Tmzb8ldlfZg

that looks really sick. did you guys work with prosthetic laboratories at all? i know they were helping mike with his prosthetics and they also made my back brace.
  • 3 0
naw.................i'll stick with my pre-cambrian Chromag seat thanx
  • 1 1
I was hoping something like this would be made, really love my Masterpiece post, but also want to go I-Beam saddle. I hope this will actually be made, pretty sure there are others who would find this of interest.
  • 2 2
Not trying to be a hater but why is Reality Redesigned still around?
Don't companies pay engineers to think this stuff up?
Just askin.........
  • 2 0
Good way to get new talent. A lot of engineering students are watching this and working on their own pieces to break into the market
  • 3 1
I would definitely be buying that today if it were available.
  • 2 1
Am I missing something? If there was a mass market for thompson ibeams, surely they would have made it already?
  • 2 1
At last !! .... The only product out of the whole lot that would actually work and is a great idea
  • 2 1
i realy hope this go,s into productoin because i want one my i-beam adaptors keep snapping this looks much more beef
  • 1 1
i watch these just to see mike's comments on the product. i think that he is the most educated and best judge of a product's viability. wait...
  • 1 0
Thomson have just released a i-beam seatpost..........................not, but who knows Smile
  • 1 0
what website do you use to make the 3-d images of the product?
  • 1 0
Since SolidWorks sponsored this challenge, I'd bet it was all done in PhotoView 360, a application in the SolidWorks suite.
  • 2 2
I am surprised something like this does not already exist. Seems to be the most viable product of this series.
  • 1 0
What chainguide is on that tracer?
  • 2 0
 I believe it is a custom-made guide.
