In all honesty I just watched to see if he threw a Schelyble and boom, there it was. I was hoping for a Wader or two but alas. @leelau, you are so right! I giggled for sure!
Oh look a helmet company's promo showing off the helmet in slo-mo. Oh wait its a bike vid, oh wait ITS A PROMO FOR THE HELMET. Anyone notice the slo-mo is to show off the product and not a riding video? Hence when the slow mo is happening.
Maybe you all should try and add your 2cents on how best to show off the helmet while riding, why dont you all come up with those ideas instead of expecting a dramatic jump or drop showing off the helmet and see how that works for the company. Seems like this piece is to highlight the helmet and not Richie.
So let me get this straight. Me pointing out that the slow mo in this vid is obviously to show off the helmets. Because thats where the slow mo happens the most, you consider complaining? And you take a shot because of it. Or did you just get offended by the way I said it? REALLY? Maybe you should take a moment to check yourself before you reply off the cuff. And suss out what is being discussed before you start taking a shot. And apparently in your mind I haven't offended you yet with a "good shot" and I should continue to try and outdo my hotty jab. Is that about the jist of it. Im pretty sure members can read all this and take that from these posts.
These comments sections get pretty heated. With regards to this vid, I really can't see why. Richie is doing some laidback freeriding and showcasing a helmet. Skidding, not skidding, drifting, not drifting, no brakes, brakes........ With regards to questioning Schley's "bona-fides" ( noun- Documentary evidence showing a person's legitimacy; credentials), I guess you can do that because it's a free, open forum. All good, super cool. But, next time I meet you in Whistler can you please point out to all of us the trail in the bike park that you created and is named after you?
Funny how these little anonymous shit-fights never seem to flare up in person, on the trail.
Congrats to the boys at mindspark for making Richie schley look like he's still got it, but seriously Richie, you need to cool it with all the skids. Just because all the kids are "blowing up" corners, doesn't mean you have to try and be young again. My $0.02
I can deal with drifting in some of these videos, two wheels sliding due to speed and entry angle to the corner, however when it's just people grabbing a full on fistful of back brake? not so much...
no doubt...trying to sell helmets for riding that's really not that dangerous..."he's the one that famously says 'i earn my descents'.... maybe it's just me but i'm pretty sure you can ride uphill all day without a helmet...unless you're one of those rippers who crashes uphill...oh...and yeah...he's washed up.
The whole ruining trails thing is really not my point (even though he did completely destroy some of those trails). All of the skidding just looks dumb and someone who has been around as long as Richie and is as well known as him should know how stupid it looks. He's really just making himself look like a bad rider and isn't providing people with a good example of good riding or bike handling.
Skids = fail. They're in bad enough shape without having any soaking rain in months and with the traffic they all get from people with a fraction of his ability. Oh, and riding in a closed burn area means that trail is likely to be shut down permanently and policed. Thanks for making it harder to maintain the trails in this area.
^ Merici has never touched a shovel in his life. Seriously f*ck skids. or roosts or whatever their called. You spend a day making a corner just perfect only to have some 14 year old kid f*ck the thing up trying to roost like he saw on pinkbike. When did f*cking up trails become cool?
why don't they do a video of him falling over the edge to show that the helmet works,or face first into a rock with the protection of a downhill helmet but breathable.
Some of y'all are too grumpy! Ok, ok, the beginning skid scene through a burn zone was in poor taste, but Richie Schley shreds with grace! And I might add, he's spent many more hours behind a shovel than most of us. Just sayin'. He gets a pass in my book.
Schlame, you're a hack. Stop skidding up the berms, especially those that are in place to stop riders from blowing through them and going over a big edge (the steep trail in the vid). Not welcome around here.
Hack? Love to see some footy of the two of you railing a track. Schley would be roosting all the time trying to bleed off some speed so you could keep up. Ha!
Richie is nothing. Rear brake skid=no skill. He should have been the one kicked off the Rocky Mountain team when Tippie was, I always felt bad for Tippie, for that. Richie should crawl back into the hole he came from and take Lopes with him.
Schley along with the godfather simmons, tippie, and some other crazy dudes were doing BIG MOUNTAIN before anyone, launching off cliffs, going down sand slopes and 'screeing' before there was a name for it.! True FREERIDING. The inspirational way of life, to travel with your bike, enjoying the ride
Did anyone notice that he just shreded the hardest, steepest dh trail in laguna on his trail bike without a fullface. Props Richie, had a chance to meet him down in Laguna and such a humble guy and awesome shredder.
Richie, is a pioneer in our sport who paved the way for today's pros. He's over 40 now and is still smoother and better most mountain bikers will ever be. Respect.
yo Ritchie still riding kiddy wheels(26"), ps: that helmet look and is gay. no wonder he keeps on skidding he's riding Continentals King Trails ... all jokes aside pretty good riding skills minus the -skids. a little bit hate w some love. lol.
