Welcome to Maxxis and Dakine as new park sponsors.

The 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games have come and gone and although the snow keeps falling the opening day for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park is less than two months away. Details inside,

The upcoming Bike Park season, which is scheduled to begin May 15, 2010, will be extra special for our staff and rental bike guests considering they’ll be rocking fresh new Maxxis Minion DH tires. Staff will be suited head to toe with Dakine’s incredible line of mountain bike apparel including jerseys, shorts, gloves, jackets and packs adding to the Bike Park’s long list of industry leading partners: Kona, SRAM, Marzocchi, Race Face, Hayes, WTB, Kokanee, Decline Magazine and Nintendo.

Next month Bike Park guests can look forward to a brand new website with some exciting new functionality and an extra special early bird Season Pass and Triple Play campaign scheduled to launch April 15, 2010.

The opening of the Bike Park also marks the start of event season and this season an old favourite, the Crud 2 Mud Downhill, will return on May 22. Then the first-ever Canadian Fluidride Cup kicks off May 30. Stay tuned for more information about the events, registration, etc soon!

After years of looking at pics in the mags i finally made it out last year. Was actually down in vancouver for 3 weeks with family but insisted we go up for a few days Razz I managed to rent a brand new Session 88 with Fox 40s, only rode once before! Sooo sweet, made a change from my 5 year old Azonic.. lol But aye, the Trek, helmet, & all the pads for $100 a day! Thought that was a pretty sweet deal Smile
Good time to go cause everything was open but not too busy so no massive queues at chairlifts, just nice number of people about. Went up to the top section & there were some larger patches of snow up there, & that was last week of june!

My family are going out to vancouver, just like you did and just like you i've insisted we go go out for a couple of days. The whole place looks epic. I don't really ride Downhill, more into jumping and street but the place is too good to miss, might see if i can go into the air dome and foam pit for a bit but i dont know what the rent bikes are like, kona cowans i think. but anyway looks great I hope i will enjoy it!

The park is sponsored by Nintendo!? Why don't we have the whole mountain in game form, ready to play whenever your heart desires?

Front Range usually doesnt open til the end of June ... How does Whistler open so much faster?! Isnt there more snow, rain, and moisture through the winters up there?

There is, but they are the premier bike park on the planet. From what I remeber in years past they start plowing trails pretty quick once the resort closes for skiing. This is a moneymaker for them, not just something to do halfassed in the summer, like the majority of resorts here. Last year the resorts in CO opened the 2nd or 3rd week of June. This year might be even earlier, since it has been warmer and the snowpack is much less than last, and depending on what their contract with the forest service says. Oh yeah, didn't Sol Vista open the 1st week of June last year? That's not too bad.

flag simcik (Mar 23, 2010 at 11:19)
Whistler has a lower elevation than what we have here in Colorado too, at least for the lower part of the mountain. Sol Vista is looking to open pretty darn early this year as well

Diablo Freeride park in New Jersey opens may 1st, almost all of the snow is gone already cause weve had 2 f**king monsoons in the past 2 weeks

Whistler gets rainy soon as the temperatures rise above freezing and snow is gone within weeks. i went last year on the 25 of may and there was no snow and they only open the lower section until late june

flag Unhallowed (Mar 23, 2010 at 13:37)
They open the bottom half of the mountain first, which is plowed and melted down asap. It's always really muddy opening weekend though.
The top half of the mountain opens later once everything else has melted.

There's a solid month where you can go skiing/snowboarding, and biking... on the same mountain, on the same day, by simply walking a couple hundred feet.

its also because whistler didnt get too much snow only like 7 or 10 feet... probably not but it was still a really mild winter compared to others

At least you don't have to wait till july, that's if we're lucky. Mt Washington has like 580cm of snow. Pretty sure it's the deepest snowpack at a commercial resort in North America.

They dig out a bunch of the trails to promote melting and drying. It is awsome you are ripping trails with 5 feet of snow all along the side.
