Three mountain bikers from Colorado attempt a multi-day circumnavigation of the Huayhuash range of the Peruvian Andes with nothing but their bikes, gear, cameras and friendship.
What an adventure. Amazing video and if I'm honest; I shit myself when that dude pulled the gun out. I thought; "uh oh here comes the first live pink bike murder".
this just makes me want to get a group of friends together and do something like that! maybe not as big as an adventure though but man, talk about heaven on earth. Beautiful place
Definite it is ..Chile is nice, but Peru is Fuc..g-unbelievable ! But to all, who want to do the same a word of advice: The area is still veery unsafe for hikers! I mean it!! :-
PS: It would be nice to hear something about the setup of the bikes , specially the wheels because they had to endure a lot
Great video guys. Concussion 3 days ride from any habitation + gun wielding locals. That's proper adventure! The riding looked awesome as well. Keep up the adventure articles PB.
In winter 2012 I went in Peru for two and a half month with my bike, I rode a LOT of trail around the white cordillera, black cordillera and Amazonas, most of them are too gnarly but the landscape is unreal. Even more impressive than India Himalaya, one of the biggest day was 4000m elevation and 5000m down ! It was my first big mountain bike trip, from Lima to Chachapoyas. I did a two day mountain bike trip in Huayhuash cordillera and it was by far my favorite part of Peru.
Since that I could not stop travelling.
viva la vida !
never biked in peru but when a guy says he rode up to machu picchu that guy deserves a beer. i hiked the inca trail up there over 3 days and it was a haul. just the hike from aguas calientes to m. picchu is a bitch if you're carrying a backpack.
This was one of the best videos I have seen on Pinkbike in a while. Amazing adventure! Beautiful camera work! Well done guys. From one fellow bikepacker to another... I can't wait to see what is next!
I like it.
If you like mountaneering there's an awesome documentary about two guys who climbed a peak in this same area.
Touching the void.Highly recommended.
Awesome video! Peru could very well be the best place to ride mountain bikes on the planet. Seriously. For a trip with equal epicness and not bags on bikes...we run some amazing fully supported enduro trips in Peru. Several departures next fall! Loved this. What food did you carry? Did you purify water? I've always been reluctant to really get too remote on multiday rides because I thought I'd starve eating dried food! It's probably time I took the plunge and went for a proper unsupported ride
If you're going come rely on your own invest in a satellite phone, it could save your life and if you get fed up with wrong dried food you could order your favourite pizza from dominoes or something ;p
sweet we are from co. me and a buddy planned a trip to peru this summer and decided on passing on the trip and doing something different. my friend meet a guy that runs kb tambo kbperu.com a few years ago. he meet him when he sold his old kona to the guy while he was in co visiting family. last time i was on the website the army green kona was in pictures leaning against the hotel. that would have been an epic adventure probably one of our best adventures yet. its still on the list of adventures just pushed back for other good things
Cordillera Huayhuash concidered as one of the most beautiful treking
the full huayhuash trekking is 12 days .
this trail is for experienced bikers , each day you will have high passes over 4,700m.

The 575 is durable, simple, and reliable. Between the three bikes and eight days riding we had no mechanical issues. This may have just been incredibly lucky, but they ran flawlessly none the less in some of the most rugged terrain on earth.
I used to tackle some of Ecuador's gnarliest dh trails on my 575, incredibly versatile bike. And on the adventure note... I openly invite all of you to come to my beautiful country and explore its incredible diversity, Ecuador is an adventure! An accessible one at that! 4 hours between Rainforest - Andes Mtn. Range - & Pacific Coast! I would love to show every biker who comes here the best trails in Ecuador... Please get in contact with me for anything MTB related! Or visit us at www.bikingdutchman.com/bd-all-mountain Cheers!
Kind of figured Yeti would have chosen to send these guys with SB 75s from a marketing perspective. I don't see the venerable 575 surviving in their lineup much longer. Joey's been featured in a couple of crashes recently - glad you're OK dude! Amazing adventure - courageous, beautiful and obviously dangerous. "Pushing a loaded wheelbarrow up a staircase while breathing through a straw" - good analogy.
As a local Mountain Biker, I can say that you did an epic trip! The Huayhuash Mountain Range is probably the most beautiful range on earth. I have explored that area since 1998 and besides Cusco, Huaraz is the second best place for MTB. We just finished a DH trip in Huaraz and we had very similar experiences but not the crash. We rode a 3,500 years old trail, climbing for 7 hours and then an amazing descend that took us to the limits. Few times you beg on a descend and say "when this is going to finish". Peru is the place where you can find remote and ancient trails and feel you are the first person on a mountain bike riding that trail. www.inkasadventures.com

Why 575s over other alternatives?
