For all those complaining about cursive and hipster posts...you need to know that this guy is one of the most capable riders in the Loops (in all disciplines) and is getting paid to write, ride and be awesome. High five Dylan!
I always had a negative view about CX bikes and gravel grinders, but ever since I traded my road bike for a CX bike I really started loving riding mine. Sure it's not designed for the most technical riding, but it is the most perfect adventure bike you can get. It's still faster than race XC bikes so you can cover more km's on a day. It's the perfect bike to hop on when you just want to go out and explore, when you want to find out where that gravel road or single trail will take you. It's a fast bike that you can use with pleasure anywhere from paved roads to XC trails. Nothing will stop you.
That said, I hope to be able to ride the Dirty Reiver on it soon (a 200km long challenge on gravel roads through the UK hills) as well as it would be the bike I would choose if I would go traveling by bike.
I once took a stance that if it did not involve hucking off a large flight of stairs or a jump that scared the b-jesus out of me, then it was not worth doing. Last sunday I had a really good 40k ride with some sweet single track, jumps, technical dh, and some brutal climbs. Im currently de-sweeting on the can after coming back from a 67k road ride right from my door. It snowed. It was brutal windy and I put some hills in there but.....I enjoyed. Differant kind of enjoyment but its alright. In my quiver I have a gravel bike that I use for school runs, taking on holiday etc. I bet I can do most things on that that most mountain bike riders do this weekend- with a few exceptions!! Sometimes its just nice to ride somewhere new and look at the view rather than dodge trees. Though I still prefer dodging trees
Specialized, " Dylan we want you to promote our gravel grinders, sales are slumping." Dylan, " I'll try my best, not sure the gravity crowd interested though." Specialized, " We own your ass now get to work!"
Seems like most People don't get the idea. Cant' blame them. They haven't tried yet. I tried and it struck my gravity stricken Soul. Found a new realm of cycling bliss. The words scribbled could be mine. Right to the point.
