Filming in Southern Utah is limitless, a never-ending ridge line where the landscape is vast and the possibilities are endless. The natural terrain here gives riders enough space and infinite possibilities to truly express their riding. Everywhere you look there are options ready to be shredded.

When you walk on this dusty ground, it makes you feel like you are on Mars… except with mountain lions and tarantulas. Mind you, it is, after all a desert. In this series we'll be searching for the best and steepest lines as we take freeride mountain biking right back to its core, explore the gnarliest place on earth and do it all with the world's best big mountain shredders.

And what a better place to start this MTB series than Utah ?

To make this edit in just 5 days was a constant challenge, especially for Antoine Bizet and Nico Vink who had just finished a week at The Redbull Rampage. After one of the most difficult and exhausting contests of the year, they managed to maintain the stoke to ride their bikes. Always seeking the best lines to work for the film, the guys were 100% focused on doing whatever it took to share their vision of freeride. It was a real pleasure to spend this week with Nico and Antoine who are both passionate riders committed to perfection.

The conditions were also difficult: dust, heat and especially wind frequently made riding and maintaining equipment really difficult. The wind was out in full force every afternoon, reducing the window to capture really good action shots and at the same time hugely increasing the risk of crashes.

Even if it may have been the most difficult place to film, it was also the best place for riders to express their skills. And when you have golden light everyday, beautiful colors, and awesome landscapes, you can not complain.

After a week of hard work from all involved, we got some serious results - I hope you enjoy them!

A big thanks to ION and HT Components for their support in this episode. Thank you for the great time Ale Di Lullo and for these great shots !

Stay tuned for the upcoming episodes !

In case anyone is wondering, this is the old rampage site in virgin utah. At the beginning they take the flying monkey trail and segway off to king kong. The rest is all hike a bike from the parking area. If your interested in going to utah and hitting this stuff, you can camp there, or their are some cheap hotels in Hurricane. Zion bikes is where we went for any tech as the are well stocked and super cool guys. Shout out to local Jeremy Hottinger for being the coolest person to ride with!

Mountainbikebelgium - Yes. You were appx. 20 minutes from the old Rampage site if you were in Hurricane. Next time!
  • 1 0
Yeah just be sure when you're camping at the old site to watch out for key-happy meth heads or your whip will get scratched up.

Second picture down, is that by chance The Swell a.k.a. mini grand canyon? That place is so sick.

@mountianbikebelgium, as stated above you were 20-30mins away

@scott-townes, I guess we were fortunate

The rampage site and those trails are intimidating, you have to either love jumps and drops, or shredding some sketchy rocky trails, last year all i worked on was surviving, so i cant wait to return.

After been ridden by some many people, Utah is still a virgin.

Antoine is an amazing rider. Bummed he never really got a run at the last rampage.

Did he just front flip a downhill bike!?
  • 3 0
He frontflip his Kona on the Taxco urban DH in Mexico too, and win (obviously) the best trick : www.zapiks.fr/best-trick-taxco-antoine-biz.html Smile

And it's not in the video, but he did a backflip on the first jump, and a frontflip on the second... Crazy !

Antoine and Rheeder are turning freeride into superslopestyle. Who's gonna be the first to flip whip a big bike.
  • 1 0
@choppertank3e Some people do flip-whips with big bikes (my friend does it with a SX Trail), but in competition like Rampage, this can be a winning run :O

Lovely capture of the S. UT bike spirit. Makes me want to go camp at Old Rampage and push my bike so bad!!! Smile

The initial angle on the top end of the FM was very unique and with the golden light was just absolutely stunning. The riding of course was incredible, Nico and Antoine have great style each in his own way. I love southern Utah.

I stay in Rockville (It's a small town at the entrance to Zion between the park and Virgin) and pass this on the way.

You don't realize how gnarly this stuff is until you see it in person.

the line nico rides at 1.45 is the craziest line ever, cant tell from video, but if you make a small mistake you are done
  • 5 0
Bizet was actually my favorite to win this years Rampage, to bad he never got his second run. But I never knew Nico was so good. Right when 1.45 started I had a brain fuse. You never needed to point it out. But I'm so glad you did, and thankfully now I know I'm not crazy. Because that clip totally messed with my head. You have to keep telling yourself it's not as bad as it looks. It must be a camera angle. But your saying that sh*t is for real. Haha.

"you need a hatchback son not a Limosine" Adam Brayton.
  • 2 1
There ain't no buffalo in Southern Utah!
  • 1 0
That was my first reaction, then I found this:

www.utah-travel-secrets.com/utahbison.html

Seems like the Henry Mountain herd is mainly from Hanksville down to Lake Powell, so more in the central part of southern Utah, but it also states some of the males went west, so maybe they actually saw one of those few.
  • 1 0
The buffalo was located at the exit of Zion, on the road to Kanab ! So, yes in Utah.
  • 1 0
I've lived here my entire life and have NEVER seen wild buffalo... But I have seen that little pasture with half a dozen bison outside ZNP, but that doesn't count!
  • 1 0
Yeah, I haven't seen them down south at all, but I'm usually more on the Moab part of southern Utah.
  • 1 0
sick video, awesome riders, good job guys
