[Quote=FuzzyL] He doesn't need confidence in his tires, doesn't really look like he cares too much if they grip or not... [Quote/]
That's what's striking about Rat Boys' riding to me: On more than one occasion this year he actually looked like he was just riding for shits 'n giggles. His body language on the bike just looked so chilled.
The helmet cam footage was in stark contrast however. The worlds video in particular was just plain scary.
People say the UK and New England are similar in terrain but I've never ridden in off camber hillside where you're carving through mossy/loam like that. It looks awesome and he makes it look way too easy, especially on how a couple of those drifts he didn't attempt to put a foot down. One of the better "product promo" vids I've seen in a while.
@AllMountin - the conditions are gloppy as f*ck for 6 months of the year, which helps when it comes to producing talented downhillers. No manicured trails round these ways, sir.
Now I know why he rides so fast. He is trying to ride away from the music playing in his ear buds. Just like a cat who chases it's own tail. You can try as hard as you want but will be no closer to your goal.
Ratboy is one of the few 'elite' levels racers that looks like he truly rides bikes for fun. Just so happens he is also one of the fastest dudes on two wheels, which makes it just that much cooler. Inspiring.
The Rat could very well be the Ayrton Senna of mountain biking. A lot of drivers were spectacular at times but Senna was spectacular every time he got in a car. Can we say the same for the Rat? Whether it's making a vid for a clothing sponsor or the World Championships the kid is amazing......'nuff said.
It's so called "neon yellow", a mix of yellow and green, like a tennis ball. Depending on what screen and what colour profile (AdobeRGB or sRGB) you use it might appear lime green or light maize yellow.
If you're looking at a phone and a laptop, you can, mobile devices tend to have shitty screens. I got a relatively expensive MacBook Pro from my company and the screen can't compare to my private Eizo LCD. Not to mention my Sony Xperia Z which changes colours like a chameleon when I'm rotating it. I checked the colours in Photoshop and while the difference is really small, there green channel has a higher value than the red one (in RGB, red and green channels of yellow colour have equal values, blue is close to 0)
Goyt Valley secret DH tracks at the beginning. I knew him and Sam ride Macc Forest but didn't know they also go over the hill into the Goyt. I ride those every week - would be super cool to see Josh up there.
Totally the goyt! One of my favourite rides! Glad to see him appearing in a vid totally sponsor free so we can concentrate on the awesome riding! Big up the peak awesome riding if you look!
Duuuude!!!! This is how you ride mountain bike!!!!! Ratboy is freraking bad@$$ rider.... maaan that was awesome.... so much control..... First time I saw him on flat pedals though... but it makes me feel better because I go back and forth between pedals too and I guess we just ride what we feel at the moment and it doesn't matter as long as we have fun with it.
Oh look! Large wheels can turn hard, negotiate tight corners, sudden direction changes and be whipped around! They are playful! People have been telling it for months, 26" is dead for a reason, it's physics... wait... Josh sits on the bike, bike alone would not ride, wheels are irrelevant - noooooo, I just ordered a pair!!!
i took the liberty of correcting the above post for accuracy...

Of course I enjoyed it. It's mountain biking and it was sick video with sick riding. But I would enjoyed it ten times better if it was full DH carnival, because that suits the Rat much more.
I can't help but wonder what that trail would be like if everyone rode in the sloppy mud flinging crap everywhere. Don't get me wrong, it makes for some great drifting but is it necessary to celebrate the actual shredding of trails?
maybe they're his trails that him and his crew built? would you rather watch him gingerly go through every corner making sure to never lock a wheel or break loose?
over here i think we just ride trails how they are if there's a big dirty rut or a blown out corner on a trail we just ride it not complain like a lil bitch
dang, I was hoping to make it more than 20 minutes above the PB negative props threshold.
Petty insults aside it's obvious that there are differences between the way trails used and maintained. In my neck of the woods (Denver, CO) riding in standing water and sloppy mud is poor form. Trail building and maintenance is done by volunteers who appreciate a bit more discretion when using public trails.
Im not sure I understand what you mean, haha.

I hate to be rude, but think for a bit before posting, alright?
Awesome riding though!
Oh and God save the Rat-mandoo...

AND...start the negative props.
