THE MEN'S COLLECTION

Sombrio is inspired by a world that rides bikes. Inspired by the natural environment around us - The Spring 2015 range is built around cross-functional bike specific technical styles; All-mountain inspired lightweights, loud and proud race gear, and casually styled Freeride classics, all backed up with a great range of city friendly essentials. The new range offers more choice than ever before, building on your favorite styles, all designed and tested on Vancouver’s North Shore.

THE WOMEN'S COLLECTION

Since the beginning, Sombrio has been committed to developing high performance apparel for women who ride. We produced a Women’s specific freeride short over a decade ago and we feel sure we can make the claim “it was the first” in our industry. We feel we have an obligation to make the absolute best fitting garments that we can. For 2015, our Women’s Collection follows the same genres as Men’s - Freeride, Epik, Gravity & Cartel - giving women the same great category options, designed with the female rider in mind.

that $100 flannel is looking like a good purchase, I will pick one up after I buy that diamond encrusted toothbrush I've had my eye on
  • 9 10
I'm sure that someone who can afford it will buy it. Looks super sick.
  • 13 5
Why buy 3 normal flannels when you can buy 1 DH specific flannel instead?
"Designed and tested in Vancouver"...and priced in USD...that $100 flannel will cost about $140CAD. And come on...what flannel doesn't look sick? Only an idiot would pay that.
  • 19 5
It is made for riding. It's fit, stretch fabric, breath-ability and durability will make it a staple in your lineup, it has quickly become one of our favourites.
No comparison to standard flannel shirt.

Well my $30 flannel has never held me back on the trail, its plenty durable and when I want breath-ability I open the top 3 buttons, but those are fair points. Still seems extremely overpriced. An extra $70 for better fabric? Or have hundreds of hours of r&d gone into this?
  • 25 1
@endlessbiking don't take it personal. If you put expensive clothing on pb we will ridicule it. Its like our job.
  • 7 2
@endlessbiking gets the gear for free so of course they are going to prop it. I highly doubt they would spend $100 USD on a shirt with their own money. I certainly wouldn't.
  • 8 4
 Nothing is free. Wink

All good. Try it, you might like it.

Of all the riding jerseys I've tested over the years (which include Fox, TLD, Shift, Mavic, Norønna, Sweet and Nalini). Sombrio's been the ones I've been the most happy with, come to fit, quality and comfort. I'll happily pay up if I know I get a quality product. Sombrio haven't let me down so far.

And if you ask: Yes, I work in the bike industry, and no I don't sell Sombrio, but I do sell (or have sold) both Fox, TLD, Mavic and Nalini.

Now, I'd buy that flanel in a heartbeat if it was plain coloured.
  • 6 3
We actually bought a bunch for our staff shop shirts. Smile

I will always love the logic of the "THATS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR A SHIRT" comments.

Have fun riding in your k-mart kits. Just because you bought your chamois from Autozone doesn't make the cycling specific version "too expensive".
  • 5 1
and this is the attitude most kids have today, "have fun in your k-mart kit" ...as if i NEED an expensive kit to have fun...what a joke... I can actually have fun on a bike regardless of my 'kit'.
  • 4 1
I think I'll be asking my chauffeur to get me one, after he's picked up my cat's waistcoat from the drycleaners.
  • 3 1
Gonna buy one soon. Very functional with breathability. I have a job that I work to buy things that I want and need, so it won't be a problem. That said, I love my Raceface Loam Ranger flannel. More expensive than this one but I'll buy another one of a different color because of how awesome it is.

 @endlessbiking

I only speak for myself. There are people with money, and there are people who have little to no money. I myself have a tight budget, so these nice looking pieces you make out of quality fabrics are out of reach of a large section of North Americans. As such, when I see these articles about nice gear and bikes that are out of my ability to buy, i feel a bit depressed; if I were to save for over a year without having any financial issues arise that does not deplete my savings, I'd get myself a nice complete enduro FS. So while I save my money to pay my rent, auto-insurance, gas, phone, ect; while trying to save for a toy or a safety net to cover me in an accident(whatever comes first), I have to stick to the cheap riding cloths I find at the thrift stores and online/retail front clearance, that I actually don't mind shredding! I believe there are people that would also like your gear, but like myself can not afford it, but how they tell you will be less than classy.

I own a pair of the Shazam. Awesome shoes!

Buy some of my designs!
  • 1 0
 @XCMark

Completely valid points - I myself can't afford the newest bikes, gear and clothing but try to save some money for nicer things.

We don't realize it but cheap clothing adds up too .. sometimes its better to spend more and have it last longer and fit better.

I have a pair of Dakine riding shorts that I bought 3 years ago for 100 $ that I wear almost everytime I ride and still look new. I also have four pairs of shorts I found at sport swaps and thrift stores for 20 $ a piece that sit at the bottom of my closet because "I might use them one day".

That being said, I haven't had the chance to test Sombrio's quality yet this year, but I've always appreciated the fit of the clothing.

Yes its expensive but how long will it last you? Because I rather spend 100 $ on a jersey that will last me 3 years versus 30 $ for a cheap shirt that will last me half a season ...

Sombrio has always carried a solid line of clothing for women... glad you are keeping that up! Thanks!
  • 9 0
Big Sombrio fan and glad to see them coming back with a solid collection. The fit of their stuff has always suited me perfectly and the design is always a nice understated look
  • 1 0
I agree Bob, fitted well, something slightly different (in the UK) although zippers were "hitty missy" to say the least. Hopefully that is behind them now. Can`t wait Smile
  • 1 0
Yeah I love sombrio kit , they understand more subtle style , their 3/4 shirts are my fav items
  • 6 3
We are running these kits this year for our staff and all of testing we have been doing over the winter is very promising. Very stylish, very comfortable, very durable.

There are local shops that carry and you can buy direct online.

 Better than leopard print TLD
  • 12 10
Not a jab at Sombrio really but what the hell is the deal with 3/4 sleeve riding shirts? They're like capris for your arms and they don't really make any sense. You can just push the sleeves up on a long sleeve jersey and then pull them back down if you get cold.
  • 15 1
pushing long sleeves up often doesn't work as they're either too tight ot too loose to do that, requiring constant adjustments. I love my 3/4's from Sombrio, Dakine, etc, perfect for rides between very cold and really hot - most of my rides.
  • 9 0
I love 3/4 sleeve, they're long sleeves that I don't have to worry about pushing up, plus they're usually Raglan cut, which is more comfortable, IMO.
  • 6 0
I prefer these, but I also played a ton of baseball. I'm a large tall. Most large s/s end up showing off 'the guns' too much. Plus 3/4 giv xtra uv protection w/air flow, rock elbow pads easier if need b.
  • 5 0
I hate my 3/4 sleeve jersey right up until the point when I get on the bike and then I completely forget it exists.

Every time I wear it I am like "Gah, these sleeves are so annoying.....wait, what sleeves"

So I guess I am saying I like it.
  • 1 0
Agreed @jrocksdh I'm a medium regular, & short sleeves often go up past my tan lines. Especially old school XC/Road jerseys with elastic cuffs.
  • 1 0
I've had the same sombrio 3/4 sleeve for the past 5 seasons and it's the jersey I wear the most. Love it.
  • 2 0
i personally liked the sombrio gear that dave watson used to have when he rode for kona. i understand companies need to progress their line up but i just feel that prices for certain items is just getting more out of reach to people.
  • 4 1
Bought some Sombrio shorts 6 years ago and they are still going great. I'd very happily pay what they're asking today. Amazing products.
  • 6 1
I feel like I'm the first "Meh!" How is that possible?
  • 3 0
You're not alone, having looked at their lineup in years past, the first thing I noticed is that there are substantially less items than previously. (and this is from looking @ the webpage, not the little blurb at the top of this thread here on PB)
  • 2 0
Focusing on a smaller line of apparel is better for everyone. Rather than providing tons of randomly specific items, they are honing in their development and creating higher quality products which will both have a better chance of selling and better serve customers.
  • 1 0
I love and hate sombiro. I LOVE the guys behind the company and what they do. I also love the designs, really cool stuff. I just hate the sizing. Maybe this has been sorted out now, but without a place to buy locally, I have had three issues with size medium jackets being WAY huge (like an XL it seemed), and M shorts being WAY small (sure there are sizing differences between the EU and USA, but when the size is more like an XS, there is a problem). It has been a hit or miss. I really hope things are more close to "general" industry sizes now.
  • 1 0
@kameraguy We have addressed our sizing inconsistencies with the 2015 collection so hopefully you don't have the same frustrations going forward!
  • 1 0
Awesome, I'm looking forward to giving your clothing another try Smile
  • 2 2
@SombrioCartel I desperately want to have your mobile pump track come to Canmore. I've tried reaching you through your contact form a number of times in recent years. Please Please Please come to our community!!!

 They sold the pump track.
  • 1 0
Thanks Freebird! Any chance you know who originally built it or who owns it now? Pretty keen to have one here!
  • 1 1
then build one, really not that hard.
  • 4 1
Sounds simple... I'll give you $50, 3 bags of mr noodle, and half a grill cheese sandwich...

Can you have it done and delivered here next week?
  • 1 2
so your saying you can't swing a hammer?
  • 1 0
@mtnmanjake Our pump track has a new home but you can get in touch with www.bikeparkitect.com for more info on getting one of your own!
  • 1 1
@rideonjon you do realize they are made from a fibreglass mold and cost over $10,000, right?
  • 1 0
@Kylelsaman the Sombrio pump track i rode last year was made from wood.
  • 4 0
Ill consider buying a $100 flannelette shirt after I buy a $10,000 demo.
  • 1 0
No more full length pants? Not a bad idea i guess since their previous models werent very good (yes i actually own a pair (2012 model i think) and im not just trolling)
  • 2 3
I'm sure I'll get taken out by the cartel, but Sombrio has been really disappointing for me. Bought their old gloves on clearance and they lasted one week. The older highline shorts had the worst liner I have ever snugged up to my nuts (except for Fox). I hope they have started to put quality over style in the new lineup.
  • 1 0
They are now owned by sugoi so I hope to see a change too.
  • 1 0
FWIW, I'm not too impressed with the liner(S100) in my Sugoi shorts: diaper-y all over, but inexplicably, really badly up front. I don't ride directly on my twig & berries Sugoi, WTF?
  • 1 0
I own an older full length downhill pant and was very dissapionted too
  • 1 0
I own a jacket, shorts, and some gloves. All have failed in one way or another.i won't be buying any more Sombrio.
  • 1 0
The new pinner shorts are the most comfortable things to ever lay rest on my legs. Disappointment would not be possible.
  • 1 0
I had their gloves and they also last a week before all the stitching fell out and died , shame cos the jerseys/shorts seem to last really well
  • 1 0
@LuvAZ For 2015 we have moved to a new manufacturer to improve the quality, fit and durability of our gloves! Hopefully our new glove will not disappoint.
  • 3 1
Seems like every clothing company this year has the goal of making TLD shorts look inexpensive.
  • 2 3
Come on.....who is spending $120 on shorts?! Stop it! Boycott this. Shorts shouldn't cost more than $30, $40 if they have a built in chamois.
  • 3 0
Sombrio- where is your shoes line up guys?
  • 1 0
Hi @tworldsmine, our footwear is still available at select retailers, but we have stepped away from new additions to the collection in 2015, to allow us to focus on our core - making great apparel!
  • 3 1
as long as it is not another "going out of business" sale...... too soon? too soon?
  • 2 2
Funky quality ride wear.....I spend all my money on bike stuff so it's good to see original bike wear you could wear from the trail to the pub....boom
  • 2 1
pub? I wouldn't wear this stuff doing my yard work or going to the dump
  • 4 1
 Nothing for me here.
  • 1 0
yup none of the line-up really peeks my interest ,it is nice to see they are still in biz after the issues they had last year .
  • 1 0
A few of my mates have had sombrio gloves last about a week in uk riding conditions
  • 1 0
Best gear, best fit IMHO. Glad to see the brand back. Great pickup Sugoi. Please don't mess with it.
  • 2 1
i see ugly stuff that looks like a kid designed them. WTF happened fro Sombrio?
  • 2 1
 agreed. junk
  • 2 0
I'm looking at my 6 year old sombre gloves and cool riding jersey with an actual design not some paint smear or prison stripe....meh...bring on the neg vibes
  • 1 0
