FireEye Full Suspension Frame - Match

Feb 12, 2010
by Jason Mz
In 2007, the first prototype of the MATCH was shown at Eurobike and Interbike. After that FireEye has spent a very long time on testing and redesigning. This year, they have finally launched it to the market.

More details and pics inside...The front triangle is made from 4130 cromoly, while the rear is 6061-T6 aluminum. That makes it a perfect match both in in appearance and strength. Due to the single-pivot design, the “MATCH” can use a single speed drive system without any chain tension devices! Plus it’s designed with the Horizontal Adjustable Dropout that makes chainstay length adjusting to an appropriate place (420-435mm) easily done.

Single Pivot structure with lots of CNC works.

Change into a longer travel fork and a 9 speed drive system, you can definitely have fun with it!

geometry chart at bottom of article has the frame weight:

3800 gm without rear shock = 8.37lb

its actually a pretty tidy looking frame, and could work out well for a very abusive rider wanting a singlespeed dirt jump / slopestyle frame?

I would not want to run it with gears, as the bottom-bracket mounted swingarm pivot is about the worst location for pedalling efficiency (which is not a concern on singlespeed, very firmly air sprung slopestyle setups, where pedalling just starts your run down the jumps)

i agree. unfortunately though, because of the placement of the pivot and the path the wheel follows, the chainstays have to be quite long otherwise the tyre will smack the seat tube. obviously this affects the 'spinnability' of the frame and how good it manuals a bit. i guess you could just slam the wheel in the dropouts? same issues with the commencal absolut sx, and the kona bass (but not so much) but i guess you'd just get used to it. oh well, frame looks mean, a leap in the right direction

i love the idea and the location of the pp. but im not a fan of single pivots
  • 10 4
The aesthetics of the frame leave much to be desired in my opinion, but it's nice to see more companies adopting the concentric bottom bracket design.

The geometry chart above is not correct - longer forks will affect the wheelbase and effective top tube lenght. Down to the design, I like it very much, but it seem a bit to heavy to me.

 bb height?

wow when will FireEye give up, there are so many better options for about 99% of their products.

EDIT: and how long does it take for them to put out a frame? Been in prototype stage since 2007 and now it comes out?

Wack-a-doodle!!!! Look at the stem they put on this thing in the first pic, plus the rear brake line is longer than Ron Jeremy.....if you want a brick, I have lots.....That tells you something about these people...that first pic was at a SHOW??? Weak presentation...

It's a nice frame, overall, but it's seriously let down by that kink in the Toptube. I mean what were they thinking? What's the point? It looks like the rider did a fail and then got up and swung the frame into the nearest lamp-post. When it comes to off-the-shelf Concentric BB frames, there's only a handful to choose from, and this is one of them. Beggars can't be choosers. It's a shame the rear end is made from 6061 though... It's a fantastically designed rear triangle. If that part was made from Titanium, and the Toptube was straight, then I think this frame would be one of the sickest out there. They need to start tweaking it!!! Back to the drawing board!!!

Maybe if they had released it in 2007 then it would have been worth a look, but now Kona and Blackmarket both have similiar products out which are better looking and lighter. The Killswitch seems like a better thought out design to me in particular, with shorter chainstays and 2.5 pounds lighter Blackmarket have really done their homework!. Oh, also the Transition Double, that probably falls into this category as well. I realise this might be cheaper, but Blackmarket aren't exactly well known for making overpriced products, and neither are Transition. To be honest if it has been in prototype since 2007 that would suggest to me that it will actually be quite expensive as they will need to balance the cost of all that development!

The dobermann Le Pink is the only frame that is 2.5 lbs lighter with shock. The Killswitch is still just over 8lbs with the xfusion shock.

Banshee Rampant (100mm virtual pivot) with Fox RP2 air shock and seatclamp, is 6.95lb in the "short size" and about 6.98lb in the "long size" (we have weighed both on digital scales - I own a short Rampant)

ideally run with 1 x 9 geared setup, but riders have run them singlespeed with a YESS chain tensioner

this is a nice bike and it would be interesting to try out all the combos like single spd and gears to see what it is capable of and i do like the cromo front keep up the good work
  • 1 0
liking that framee, but im just thinkin out loud here, wouldnt it be better to have the frame a bit shorter usually with dirtjump, slopestyle bikes your tire almost hits your pedal doing an x up or somthin
  • 4 1
9ish pounds with a shock? That's pretty tankish but itz a coo frame hopefully they price it well
  • 3 0
8.3, kind of heavy but SS would keep the weight down a little, maybe a little more with an air can if possible.
  • 3 0
Oh I guess that is without a rear shock... it is even porkier than I thought.
  • 5 2
Much the same for any FireEye component to be honest. Really not a fan of the stuff. Oversized Meccano. Hideous products in my opinion, and they ride the same way too.

 Perfect comment, thanx dude!
  • 1 0
shit, i thought my frame wa heavy...
  • 2 1
aluminum front and cro-mo rear i would understand. this, i do not. i actually like the look of the frame but if i wanted a frame that heavy, i'd want 8 inches of travel to go with it
  • 1 0
aluminum front end and cr-mo rear end makes as much sense as a gorilla in a pink bathing-suit. the rear triangle is probably of aluminum to keep the unsprung weight down and make it more flickable, and cr-mo front end will be able to take more abuse than an aluminum piece would. a cr-mo rear triangle will increase the unsprung weight which severely gimps the responsiveness of the rear suspension.

wow, i want that frame so bad
  • 5 3
yeah its really nice. how much are these?
  • 2 0
 it's so gorgeous...
  • 2 1
definatly good competition to the blackmarket kill switch and the kona bass. looks really sweet
  • 4 0
hmm id still go for the killswitch which is over 2.5 pounds lighter!! the only reason this is so weighty is the cromo front triangle if it were alu it would be much closer
  • 1 0
but you odnt know the price yet, this could be a hell of a lot cheaper
  • 1 0
from all the machining it doesnt look like its going to be much cheaper :S especially when it comes stocked with a roco piggyback shock and sliding dropout comes with allot i mean there are always cheaper alternatives like the mountain cycle battery for £450 n that comes with an air shock
  • 2 0
The dobermann Le Pink is the only frame that is 2.5 lbs lighter with shock. The Killswitch is still just over 8lbs with the xfusion shock. And the dobermann is Canadian welded... and has tighter geometry. And comes in any colour you want. And comes in custom top-tube lengths... and can have ISCG mounts and a derailleur hangar... yeah. This is a good bike too, though!

u see im talking about weight without shock and i cant find a weight for the le pink but the le pink is 90mm of travel where as this bike is 115mm travel so they are slightly different but the le pink is sexxxy Razz but i am a fan of the killswitch

Sick frame tup Great job FireEye! Smile
  • 1 0
can you use truvativ hammerschmidt on a bb pivot with tabs on the chainstay or will the twisting mess it up?
  • 1 0
It shouldn't be an issue. From the perspective of the Hammerschmidt, it just sees rotation. No difference between your pedals spinning and the unit spinning.
  • 1 0
Very good looking bike ! i'm not sure about the single pivot but it is looking nice
  • 2 0
thats friken sick how much does it cost
  • 1 0
looks good they make a decant hardtail i would like to try it
  • 1 0
likin the single speed set up but single pivot? ehh... still looks ill
  • 1 0
I think I am one of the only people to own one!! Smile
  • 1 0
haha, im pretty sure i saw this in an 08 issue of MBA
  • 1 0
i'd rather run the dartmoor version of this design, looks much cleaner!
  • 1 0
Like the frame. 69 degree headtube? No thanks.
  • 1 0
I guess it's built more towards speed in that sense, just a tough bike you can really beat on for the "un-fancy" riding style... just point and shoot.
  • 1 0
Hollow link chain to save weight, but what's with the tank of a stem?
  • 1 0
i had a control tech stem that made that seem like the smallest stem ever.
  • 1 0
 Excellent work. Congratulations.
  • 1 0
so many better choices out there than this
  • 1 0
 S.I.C.K !
  • 1 1
only i hate on their products is,they made threads so weak...
  • 1 1
that is one ugly bastard but it looks like it will get the job done!
  • 1 0
Great design, keeping the pivot point at the bottom bracket reduces the problems with the drive-train, the chain doesn't have to change length when the rear suspension moves. Cable routing for the rear could be better, by routing the cables by the shock it will be bending alot more than if they were run to the lower arm.
  • 1 1
The chainstays are way too long for a slopestyle bike. Terrible design.
  • 1 0
 Very Cool! ;PP
  • 1 0
 the dropouts are SICK!
  • 1 0
 tis an ugly bicycle.
  • 1 0
 damn ugly frame
  • 1 1
 dam weight weenies!
  • 2 1
hard aye bro, hahaha. build it tough and ride the f$%king shit out of it and dont worry bout it.
  • 2 3
 oooHOly S***
