In late November of 2013, Pinkbike’s Karl Burkat called me to introduce me to a new initiative that Pinkbike was pushing called “Share the Ride”, which was focused on getting disadvantaged youth on new bikes. I was intrigued and very much wanted to be a part of what the Pinkbike team was putting together. My hope was to spin it locally. Karl then introduced me to Rachelle Frazer who was heading up the program and we ran with it.

Share the Ride

The plan was to work with Kent Youth & Family Services which provides professional counseling, education and support services to children, youth and their families by developing innovative programs in culturally sensitive ways. We worked with KY&FS Outreach Manager, Robert White, to identify 22 youth who needed bikes. We ordered the bikes, built them up, brought in locks from Abus, helmets from Kali and brought in a ton of pizza which all culminated in a great evening both for the kids and for the Diamondback Staff.

The notion that the gift you receive from giving to others far exceeds the gift given, is almost cliché these days. We are taught this from an early age and it’s reminded to us every holiday season. But the actual feeling taken away will never be cliché… you can never become tired of or used to it. It’s always special and exceptionally rewarding. And I am thrilled to work for a bike company and work within an industry with partners like Pinkbike, that share these values with me.

Happy Holidays!

Lack such incentives in Brazil, I am very sad about Brazil that give little encouragement in the use of the bicycle for our children position, Brazil pays 70% tax on the value of the bike, glad to see this initiative in other countries.

That's just plain stupid and cruel..

Yes very stupid of our government, for me to buy some equipment, do not buy in Brazil because it is very expensive, only buy in USA.

This may be great press, but I can't help but think this is just Diamond back unloading a bunch of bmxes no one will buy after they announced they are dropping their whole bmx program.
  • 31
Your an asshole, they did something nice for a bunch of kids that have nothing. I doubt they did it just for the press. Plus they gave out more than bmx bikes. It was a good thing they did, kudos diamondback..you made a bunch of kids very happy!

That's cool and all but i wish db would actually stand behind their product. Boughta new a 2008 recoil and four years later the rear triangle snapped, warranty was full replacement for 5 years but instead of doing that they d*cked around with my lbs for 6 whole months to try and wait out the warranty. Finally right before it expired they offered a new recoil at wholesale value, as if i would want to buy from them again
