Enduro World Series Round 5 - Pit Walk with Tracy Moseley

Frame bags, stashes under the seat, special pocket jerseys and back protectors, the works. The only thing consistent here is that hardly any of the top Enduro racers are running backpacks or fanny-packs.

The Specialized Swat thingy needs to become a standard on all bikes. Other bike brands should just swallow their pride and copy specialized. Enough with things attached to a frame with a tape.
  • 42 3
yeah just copy it, so easy just do it brah. Oh look a Lawsuit....
  • 43 2
 Specialized would never sue... lol.
  • 2 1
@eswebster: Maybe thay can do this models for the non US market
  • 4 2
Not even copying specialized since Specialized copied Kona, 25+ years ago... Joe Murray Combo Cages....intergrated a bottle cage with tire levers and a patch kit (which itself was the same size as many modern folding mini-tools). What's old is new again in the bicycle world. On Up's in the steerer tube tool reviewed a few days ago is a copy of something Cannondale developed a decade ago for the steerer tubes of their lefty forks. Albeit a worse copy.... as the Cannondale one didn't require you to modify the steerer tube to install it.

@deeeight: I was refering to the inside downtube compartment. I would also just be happy with an external custom made for the specific frame like the one Carlson has in min 1:30 in the video. I just has to be rigid (carbon/plastic) and securely attached to the frame!

@deeeigh Joe Murray, yeh raced against him back in the day ,even had a chat ,well it was "on your right " as he went past . beat a works Raliegh rider though ,mind you he had fallen off and broke his collar bone

 @OLTI27:

How about inside the seatpost then or inside the steerer tube ? Ever seen a wacky plug? Its basically like a bar end plug, with a bit that's easier to grab, that you stuff into the open end of the tube, to created a closed compartment inside the bike to store allen wrenches, chain links, money, first aid bits, etc. You use something similar today inside the hollow crank axles on most bikes.

One of the coolest things about my Stumpjumper is the multitool that clips in front of the shock. Its sooo nice to be able to grab a tool super fast for all the little adjustments you do. I think this is even more useful than the inside the bike storage.

Yeah, all "innovations" to sell more stuff.... and then go back in circles...
I rather have the extra weight on my body than on the bike.
The specialized thing is very inconvenient for many reasons.... rattling, slow, not durable etc... graves does not use it.

Joe Barnes keeping it real, just slap it on there with aloada ductape!

I'm a guy but i wear a bra on enduro races so i have a place to put my sandwiches. That's what i told the cops anyway... -_-

cool story time: I used to tape a tube under my seat. A few weeks later I tried to manual into a bunny hop over a ledge into a downhill leading to a jump. The tube came undone and fell in between my frame and tire, slamming the front wheel into the ledge and sending me down into the face of the jump, breaking my hand. Moral is, make sure that tube is tight in there. - Bro.

or carry a bagpack. Don't have to go full enduro.
  • 8 0
@chyu: if a backpack is good enough for Sam Hill, it's good enough for me.
  • 2 0
Way to be a sheep old fart
  • 21 0
Backpack manufacturers need to up their game or drop their prices to compete with duct tape.
  • 13 0
I didn't realize so many EWS riders wore back protection.
  • 4 0
I could be mistaken but I think they're required to
  • 9 0
I think it depends on where the race is.
  • 5 0
this... has me thinking i should get some myself

 Racing in France
  • 3 0
Yeah, French law states what they need to wear. I don't know if the law has changed but we might be seeing everyone wearing gloves this weekend
  • 2 0
I would definitely recommend it, most are really comfortable and light weight. plus you can still protect your spine while in a half shell which a neck brace can't do
  • 1 0
France emphasizes on protection alot. Even on...

That is something I really like about Enduro-Racing. Good ideas for everyday rides! Love that! Specialized is definitely my favourite! Almost perfect execution! Edc and bottom bracket tool are good ideas -simply not that dialled yet. Thank you very much for that inside view! Great idea!

pretty soon they'll be having drones follow you with supplies..
  • 8 1
That's not really that bad of an idea actually. Lets say you have some riding area. It is enough to have one drone ready with the standard spares/tools.

Say you broke down, and you just take the phone and send the coordinates (it already has them), and drone just takes off, avoids the obstacles if flying low (they already do this) and lands in a clear place where you've called it. Then when you give it a command it just flies back home.

The drones today can already do this because they have long flight time, long range, good VX (even though it doesn't really need it if it is autonomous) etc. The only problem is weight, but apart from water, spare stuff/tools are not that heavy. And I've already mentioned obstacle avoidance, this stuff is great.

In a way you could have a company providing always ready drone(s) in a well ridden area and I'm actually confident that this idea might even work. Also it could work with basic first aid. You could even have different types of loads. Each drone with different type of load or something similar.

good grief, a back or fanny pack never looked so practical.
  • 6 0
Is joe really serious about his tape work ?
  • 3 0
Of course he is. It lowers his center of gravity, ergo he can rail berms harder! You should try it too sometime!
  • 5 0
@BobGnarly: Maybe the idea was sound but the execution was woeful haha.
  • 5 0
I just don't know how they get by with 1 bottle..
  • 1 0
I think they refill between laps.
  • 1 0
@IluvRIDING: That would make sense, I imagine the scrubs( not that anyone in an EWS is a scrub!) and privateers lower down in the transition stages are carrying more in case they miss the refills.

IMO it is the carbon Trance. The kink in the top tube bending up towards the seat tube and the cable entry point in the head tube all look exactly like the current Trance carbon. Giant probably don't want to shout about it too much since the Reign is meant to be their enduro bike.
  • 1 0
The top tube kink in the proto is much more pronounced than on the Trance, the upper link is much different, etc. It's the new Reign. Also, welds are quite noticeable, so no, it is definitely NOT a carbon trance.
  • 2 0
Check out the Winn Racing spare tube carrier. It's what I've been using for the past year and it's pretty cool product.
  • 1 0
 link?
  • 1 0
Round 1 and 2 this year seem to show how much carnage some of these guys endure during the stages. Cool to see the different ways this is done around the world.
  • 3 0
is that a black 2018 reign or a trance?
  • 1 0
I think it might be a Reign... The Trance is new for 2017 and the headtube area and top-tube/down-tube joint is different. The top tube is lower and swept back up much more agressively than on the Trance (and in line with the current Reign) and you definitely see a single piece upper link, which is different to the one on the Trance.

I say new Reign.

Where are the spy shots?

Here's the proto aluminium Reign they were riding in Madeira.
  • 1 0
Looks like a proto reign, the rocker link is different to that on the trance
  • 1 0
@sam264: the rocker is simialiar to the new anthem. It's def a proto reign. I've seen one but couldn't nor cares to take pics of it.
  • 1 0
@Grizzlycycles661: Yeah, the top tube upsweep is more pronounced than on the new Trance, the link is different, the shock is metric and huge (compared to the Trance), and, of course, black colourway Wink

Didn't know it was ridden already in Madeira. Also, compared to the current 2015-onwards Reign, it doesn't look that different. The top tube has a bit different cross-section to it, the upsweep is quite similar to the old one, the top tube and downtube junction weld is smaller (shorter), but the downtube has a similar S shape, the DT protector is similar, the upper link, though carbon and one piece, does still resemble the current design in the shape and size, same goes for the bottom link, etc. I hope the actual seat tube angle has been steepened, the current design is too slack in my opinion.

Otherwise I guess it's a case of 'don't fix it if it ain't broken. Also, i really would like to have tis build, full Sram, with X01 Eagle, but on an aluminium frame. Why is carbon being pushed down our throats? :/
  • 1 0
gotta dig the storage on Rude's bike, making use of the steerer tube is genius and surely can't add much weight to the front end.
  • 3 0
 Great vid, thanks Tracey!
  • 2 1
TIL I was endurbro with my framebag on my E29 before it became endurbro to have a framebag. Smile
  • 1 0
Thats the content I wanna see!! We still need those spy shoots and bike checks though!
  • 1 0
@3:03 Totally what I would do.
  • 1 0
 Yaaay T-Mo
  • 2 3
Fuck SWAT. My bikes a bike, not a caravan.
