Tim Bringer posted a statement on instagram:
"Maybe one day the organization will listen to the riders so we have a proper contest. We take the risk but they only think about the numbers on the live streams. I had a flat tire for no reason on the first run and they didn't let us drop for a second one because it would have been too dark for the live. We are the clowns in this circus I love this sport but we need to change some stuff"

Lemoine also made clear that he is unhappy with the way contests/events are. I really hope they listen to the riders!

 This is the real story.

Why would you get a re-run after getting a flat tire? Sort your equipment out.

Worst event of the week, incredibly long wait, the start was super anticlimatic, only one run and even though I do believe Emil's run was the best in terms of technicality, it wasn't 5 points better than Paul's or Tom's which were way more electrifying and exciting. Sad if it was Lemoine's last dance on slope.

Isted or Couderc should have won.

Emil's body language said it all - he knows that run wasn't a 92+.

Equally as bizarre as Emil's score was Fedko's - a 59!!! - is a bit odd - yes he missed a trick or two but Dawid scored higher with a massive crash haha.

Wait what? Some of the other scoring might have been a bit weird, but the top 3 makes sense...

Emil:
Footplant 3
truck to downside whip
opposite 3 undown to x-up
3 windshield wiper
flip double bar to x
3 downside double whip
opposite 3 no foot can on
nose press 3 can off
540 xup undown
3 toboggan
opposite 3 whip

Couderc:
3
flip bar
opposite cork 7
7
double flip
flip whip
whip on
flip off
180 whip
3
double flip

Isted:
3
flip tuck
twister
cork 7
double flip
frontflip tuck
truck on
cork flip off
flair
cork flip
flip tuck

I absolutely LOVE Emil's riding, but his run (like those of Couderc and Isted) was nowhere near perfect, and definitely not 5+ points higher than Couderc. Slopestyle feels a lot like the NBA, where the top stars get different rules from everyone else.

@brianpark: Paul’s run still looked way cooler!!
  • 12 1
Amplitude and execution of the tricks is also a part of the equation.

Though we’ve seen all Emil’s tricks from the winning run before, I don’t think he or anybody ever did a 360 double downside whip THAT way. Considering the body position (dipped vertically) it’s like two times more complex (who am I to judge though). And that 360 can off the nose is a cool creative combo, not what you can really expect when rider comes to drop.

Finally, if Emil can rotate himself and his bike both ways, it doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be getting extra points for that skill.

@brianpark: I have to agree in the sense of tricks. But the run was far from clean or have the level of precision required for the win. Tom Isted by far had the cleanest run of the top 3. I think they had the podium backwards. This was a clear example of favoritism.
  • 23 5
@brianpark: I think as soon as oppo tricks and extra barspins need to be explained that they are somehow superior to say a massive double flips or spectacular cash roll variation I personally think it’s lost the point of the show.
  • 9 0
@jomacba: emils tricks on average for the for whole run were ahead of everyone. Paul maybe had the oppo cork 7 and debatably the double flip, but emil clearly won everywhere else, not to mention went waaay higher with a harder trick on the quarter. He had a bit if a wobble after the 360 windshield wiper, be he kept it together. Paul was sketchy too in a couple of areas. Paul only won over istead because of the final double flip vs toms flip no hander. Everywhere else those two were on par. Top 3 is fair and as it should have been.
  • 5 1
@jimoxbox: ultimately, it’s about who had the harder run and executed better, not necessarily what looks “cooler”
  • 8 0
@brianpark: when you write it out like that it makes sense why he scores so high. Every one of his tricks is a sentence. Whereas the 2nd and 3rd tricks were one word tricks ahah. Although sill big tricks
  • 1 0
@Ryan2949: long tricks will always beat short tricks Wink
  • 4 1
@brianpark: Coudersport vs Isted is interesting
3 - 3, tie
Flip bar - flip tuck, tie
Opo cork 7 - twister, tie?
7 - cork 7, isted
Double flip - double flip, tie
Flip wip - fronty tuck, ??
Whip on - truck on, isted
Flip off - cork flip off, isted
180 whip - flair, isted
3 - cork flip, isted
Double flip - flip tuck, Couderc

Obviously that 2nd Double on the stepdown was massive but it was a repeat trick and he didn't clearly win any other jumps where as isted appeared to win 5 IMO. At the very least the scoring should have been tighter?
  • 4 6
Yep. Couderc would have risen to the top step if not for the Monster Energy helmet he was wearing. Sad that judging plays so heavily to the title sponsors team riders. Emil’s 92 with all of those errors, no 720’s or 1080’s and no double back or front flips. Come on, that was simply NOT a winning run.

@leon-forfar: Damn... They got to you too. Can't trust anybody these days!
  • 1 0
@Velosexualist: A skill learned and others haven't learned it!
  • 4 1
You serious? In skiing Isted and Couderc would have gotten a 70 max with a runs like that. Lacking difficulty but good for the people watching. Tricks for show not for a comp.
  • 5 1
@brianpark: People are quick to point out that Couderc did two double flips, and Isted did two flip tucks, but NINE of Emil's eleven hits were variants of a 360.. and one of the ones that wasn't was a 540.

Even on a pure technicality basis, that needs to be penalised. You shouldn't be able to just double stack tricks like that the whole run and not be penalised.

Now take away the 360 element from 7 of Emil's nine repetitions of it, score it, and do you still think the run should have won?

If there's no issue with double-dipping on scoring, then if I were Isted or Couderc I'd just focus hard on learning 10 variations of double flips or fronties, and throw it and double-dip the score on every hit.

@thehypernatural: Literally what, if any "errors" did you see from Emil, other than the slight wobble after he landed the 360 windshield wiper (which he didn't even take a foot off, just a harsh landing)? I'll wait....

@Curator88 I don't see your point here. Each of his 360 combos were different 360 combos to one another, not a single repeat of one combo. There are 3 main axes that people can do combos from (backflip, frontflip, and 360, and I guess blurring the lines between some of those axes). Literally everyone would need to be docked by that logic. Tom Istead had 7 flip tricks in his run (literally 2 of them the same combo, both on a step down). Even Couderc had two double flips in his run (albeit, one on the last "step down"). Emil didn't do the same trick twice, and no, 360 double down whip, truck to downwhip, and 360 windshield wiper are not the same trick).
  • 2 0
@leon-forfar: Backflip and frontflip use the *same* axis of rotation.
  • 1 0
@mi-bike: Sorry, I should have said direction of spin then... My point was that almost all tricks start with the frontflip, backflip, or 360, so obviously the basic trick will be included in all of the combos

 @catweasel:
Top 3 runs compared

3 - 3 - footplant 3, Emil
Flip bar - flip tuck - truck to downwhip, Emil
Opo cork 7 - twister - switch 3 unturndown to switch x-up, Isted
7 - cork 7 - 360 tailwhip to downwhip, Emil
Double flip - double flip - flip dub bar to x-up, I would say Emil quadruple combo
Flip wip - fronty tuck - 360 double downwhip, Emil
Whip on - truck on - switch 3 cancan, Emil
Flip off - cork flip off - nollie 360 cancan, Emil
180 whip - flair - 540 x-up to unturndown, Emil
3 - cork flip - 360 t-bog, Emil
Double flip - flip tuck - switch 360, switch whip, I would say tie with couderc

I think it's pretty fair to say Emil won

@Rafmiller: wasn't disagreeing about that. Was commenting on isted vs couderc. Given that couderc must have been a few points behind at the last jump but ended up 3 points ahead, was that double flip with 6 points?
No idea myself and I know the points don't really mean anything but somehow I'd feel better if they were scored much closer together regardless of which was better.

Too bad to end the season like this. I've been watching the fmb world tour since 2012 and I must admit that it's been a long time since I've been disappointed like this by a Crankworks. Tim Bringer's latest insta post is interesting, it's not the first time that we hear riders pointing out certain shortcomings in the organization of events... It's nice to see Tom Isted and Paul Couderc on the podium. But I feel bad for those who didn't have the opportunity to improve their 1st run. its Even more sad if the first concern of the organizers was the livestream... Anyway, c'est la vie. healing vibes to Torquato Testa, his crash was more than scary...

It reminds me of 7 Hamilton's F1 championships (or 4 Vettel's) when people started to cheer against him in the end. But at least he was the fastest.
This - I don't understand.
  • 4 0
Or what we see with Verstappen now again, total dominance. 8 wins in a row. It's getting boring
  • 1 2
Hamilton won most of his titles in a dominant car that was miles faster than 18 other cars. Emil won on pure skill and merit (not hating on Hamilton, he's obviously one of the best, but the car is 90% of F1, whereas the rider skill is 100% of the equation in slopestyle).

I might have enjoyed Lemoine's run Le Most. I don't care if he had a little fall, he showed some flair we don't see with everyone trying to be so clean and technically correct. I would have loved to see a second run from everyone, but especially him and Ben Thomson (for the stoke coming off that guy!)
  • 4 0
That was probably the most disappointing of all this years slope events to watch from a viewing perspective. Camera angles were not great - felt like they didn't try very hard to cover the whole track and cameras seemed too low. Then the shortened event was truly an epic fail. Several riders were robbed. That said I loved Isted and Couderc's runs. well done to them.
  • 4 2
Did Emil win it because he's a Red Bull athlete? I think second or third could have taken it easily. Stoked for Isted to get a podium.
  • 1 0
How much were the big checks on the podium for? Couldn’t make them out on the live feed. Just curious what they get for each position…
  • 8 10
They dont need to do any Crankworx anymore.Emil always win even when he’s know that wasnt better than Paul or Tom but Judges are there to help him and piss boys and fans.Done with that, sad day for slopestyle.
  • 4 0
bruh dawid is slowly creeping up on him. Innsbruck was probably the most exciting crankworx I've ever watched because of the dawid and emil battle. the only reason this event sucked so much was because of wind delay and then they had to stop second runs because it was getting too dark.
  • 2 1
@Rafmiller: you are right but 92 for what he did is bad.Thats why I prefer BMX judging. They making Emil strong but does he is that great of all time??? We knew this shit happend again, its always windy there in late arvo.
  • 1 0
@Kacus88: Yes Emil is the greatest of all time
  • 1 0
@Rafmiller: no chance,he wouldnt beat Brandon even on Playstation game and David Will beat him soon!!!
  • 1 0
@Kacus88: Dude Emil would flog Brandon these days. Maybe get your facts straight before saying things like that.
  • 1 0
@raffymiller: no chance, say whatever you want but I am done with this show
