I'm here to deliver the awesome news everyone has been waiting to hear. Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park in Milwaukee is OPEN and ready to rock and roll!
We'll be open for business Friday, December 31st at noon and ready to go riding!
Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park will still celebrate our Milwaukee arrival with a Grand Opening. Details will be communicated soon on raysmtb.com as well as our Facebook page.
For this New Years Eve weekend, we will maintain normal business hours. We're open from Noon until 10:00pm on Friday and 9:00am until 10:00pm Saturday and Sunday. Also, for those headed to the park, save yourself some time and download and fill out the waiver and consent form from the MKE portion of the site. Riders Under 18 not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian must have their waiver notarized. No exceptions. For full list of hours, rates, and waivers please check raysmtb.com.
The video definitely does not show the entire facility, but should provide a taste of what we have to offer.
Ok, this is an awesome idea for all riders, cause wear these locations are, they are urban, flat, and the temps in the winter are really really cold! Driving to a mountain is always the best, but when its hours away, kinda sucks. Stop hating, you'd still go. that being said, hope to see more or these, and May needs to come so i can hit up whistler once more!
The video and photos are only the XC Loop, the park has pump track, small jump and expert jump room. Its 110,000 square feet of features, loops, pump tracks, jump rooms. I'll be there at noon when it opens today, my office is only a short distance away so I can ride on lunch break if I feel the need.
this thread is so funny. everyone saying not real mtb biking anything on a mtb bike is mtb biking. the point of this whole thing is to give a person a place to ride when there a 3 plus feet on snow on the ground. its a spot to ride your bike rather then leaving in your basement all winter
i cant believe anyone would doubt this project. having at least something to ride during the miserable months is better than absolutely nothing. even if the pictures in the article aren't too exciting, everyone knows that rays has a sick skatepark and jump section, which I would gladly ride all winter as long as there's snow outside. keep these coming.
What a bunch of sissy wanker cry babies. Not everyone lives by a mountain, and we surely don't all benefit from the fairy tale climate of Southern California. As for you B.C. guys, you have Whistler, and other resorts like it, this is what people from Wisconsin have, they make the best of what they've got, (in the true spirit of mountain biking). I'd rather ride an actual mountain too, but that's at least a three hour drive, so you know what I do? I build shit and ride it, make the best of what you've got or sell your bike cause you're probably just a poser who will sell your bike when you turn 16 to buy a car anyway!
just to set the record straight everyone from the uk arnt complete bellends who think this is a bad idea! tbh i think its rad! cant wait to go to a rays on a rainy day when im in america. everyone from the uk pipe down dont knock it till you try it,ud love it if it was on ya doorstep!
Hello all, it's Ray.
I normally don't follow this stuff but was bored this morning and thought I'd surf around a little. I never thought that a idea like Rays, which is positive for bikes, would cause such a ruckus. Thanks to everyone who has tried to explain what we do. I was hoping to add some thoughts too.
When I took the 100ft financial sender that I did, I had know idea what was going to happen. The park is a reflection of what the riders wanted and needed. We try to build stuff for everyone. It is unique in that you can bring a variety of friends with a variety of skill levels, beginner through pro and everyone spends the entire day and night having fun. I have many friends who I would like to take to whistler but I know that they would be more nervous than anything. That's not the case at rays. You can ride some XC loops, mix in some north shore stuff, hit a variety of jumps from 2' to 7' lips, street park, foam pit, have some food, teach your girl how to ride, try some transfers, talk with a visiting pro, talk bikes with 200 plus other riders, demo next years bikes, ride more north shore skinnies, ride some XC again, try the spine, have some food, meet new people, ride with your little brother, .....the list goes on and on.
rays is it's own experience. We are not trying to compete with mother nature......just keep everyone together over the long winter, stay in shape, keep our skills dialed, help a new rider learn the sport, make some new friends.
I hope you will give it a try. Hope to see you at the park, ray
I've never seen such negativity about your parks ever. Usually there is one or two naysayers, but for some reason a LOT of people are full of nothing but negativity.
Hi Ray - Just wanted to thank you and Trek for all the hard work put into getting this going. It's a dream come true to have something like this built in Wisconsin. It has normally been a 10hr drive for us to make the trip to Cleveland. I stopped on Sat to ride (+buy season pass) and the box jump lines will be excellent for staying in shape over the winter months and a big help for newer riders to build up their confidence for dirt jumping in spring. Lot's of positive feedback on the park section from the BMX crowd. Residents in the area are thankful their kids have something constructive to do and are glad to see business return that area of the city where the economy has been dwindling for some time. Only request would be a resi-box for transitioning new tricks to wood to go along with the foam pit if funds become available. At this point we'll still be traveling to Cleveland for the resi. Thanks again Ray. Justin Gigstad -Sheboygan WI.
Come on guys, Imagine not having an good riding to do in the winter. This is great place place to hone your skills in the winter, i mean who is going to go out in the cold and wet and ride technical stuff with skinnies, teeter totters, and some cool stunts. I try to make a point of getting there at least once a month when the conditions arent the best out. We are not going to be riding there in the summer when the trails are pristine, but its a great place to ride and have fun with friends in the winter when the conditions are not the best out. Its nice to break it up and ride some fun technical stuff under shelter.
Wow, jaded much guys. Anybody who sees this as a "waste" is either an incredibly single minded rider or just a douche, maybe both. To make a blanket statement about the place based on a 2 minute video of the XC loop is just silly. If the Milwaukee location is anything like the Cleveland spot, there will be sufficient obstacles and lines to keep even the most experienced riders entertained for hours. I think alot of you guys are missing the point here. These facilities provide a place for riders of all abilities to get together and ride bicycles when the weather turns ugly; which does happen for several months here in the midwest.
All of you who are doubting what going to Ray's MTB park is capable of need to look at youtube videos from the one in Cleveland. I'm pretty sure that the video here for the one in Milwaukee is just the beginning of another beautiful indoor mtb park. There are plenty of DJ and slopestyle features at the Rays in Cleveland. Great time during the winter, especially since the trails surrounding Cleveland are covered in nearly a foot of snow this time of year and really sloppy, and impossible to do maintenance on. Look into it more, and make a trip to one. Yes, it's not a mountain, but it's enough for those of us who are unable to travel to a mountain (in my case, due to work and college) to keep our skills at least tuned in a little over the winter. So bring your hardtail, and have fun, then pass judgement.
I 100% agree stop hating !!!! This is just another cool place for us to ride in the winter time!! even though its 1000's of miles away from me I would be there all the time if I could. hey asshats explain how I'm going to suck it up and go ride my trails when they are buried 5 feet under snow.
I can't believe how many hateful comments I've just read. I would love to ride this place in the winter months. It would be so cool to have something like this in the montreal area.
youll probs find the brits bitching about it are the type who will bitch about anything and think they're well 'ard riding in our wet weather without considering the harsher winters over your way
This place looks great. They need one in So. cal for sure. I know its not the same as the mountain but its great for training and for days its not nice out. I can't believe all the haters who don't think this place is sweet! I thought mtb was a sport that was supposed to be viewed with an open mind. If it was always the same trail or mountain the sport would not have progressed as it has. Way to go rays!!!
No matter what kind of bike you ride, whether it be mountain biking or bmx riding, Ray's has things to offer. Ray's is not necessarily about doing something big and crazy, it's more about keeping your riding skills sharp throughout the winter. I have been to the Ray's in Cleveland many times and I have never gotten bored. If you truly appreciate riding your bicycle, it only matters that you get to ride, and Ray has given the opportunity to for people to do this. I have never heard of a person that went and rode at Ray's and didn't enjoy it.
I rode it friday and its awesomely fun ! The video doesnt show even half of what they have, the jumping sections are challenging, nearly everyone there I talked to said it was WAY harder, bigger and faster than they imagined it would be.
They built it 100% and then had the city come in and make them install a HUGE fire wall on the entire south end of the building because 50 yards away is a working car dealership. They had to take out the pump track and 1/5 of the XC loop but will have those parts re-installed this month.
The rent Trek Ticket SS with Fox831's on them for 10 bucks a day so you have more than half the riders using the rental bike with the "Holy Crap this Bike is worth more than my car" look on their faces !
Was a great time, bought the pass and will be riding a few times a week !
i went to Ray's MKE today and it was a blast. i've been to CLE a number of times over the past 3 years and seen that park's evolution. there is definitely some room to "tune" the setup but that will happen once the park gets stress-tested and a large enough sample size of feedback is gathered. first impressions are that the expert jumps and street park are set up better than CLE, but there isn't a real bridge between the beginner stuff and the expert. hopefully with some finishing touches that will firm up. the park overall is smaller but that's how it's going to be in a first-year building. now that there's some serious backing (Trek) to Ray's vision, it can only get better. going back in 2 weeks for more (from Chicago)
I went to Ray's in Ohio last February for the Women's Weekend. While I'll admit the riding wasn't entirely my style, the atmosphere was great and I had a nice time hanging out and meeting people I've only spoken to on sites and forums. Anything that gets people out of the house and with their bike is okay by me.
It's not like it's all the same stuff there all the time, they change lines and add new features all the time (at least in Cleveland) this video is Rays in Ohio. The place is also huge coming in at over 103,000 square feet
I live one hour from Rays in ohio and go a couple of times a year....i'm 40 and i take my 10 year old son and we have a blast every time...when my brother from flordia comes to visit,we go to Rays.....Ray,keep on keepen on!!!!
Facking lame. They could have done a much better job than that. I would support the idea if it was actually fun to ride. Looks like it would be fun for about 10 minutes. I hope they plan on changing things up regularly to keep the interest. Props for the idea. But wheres the DJ's, Ladder drops, etc ?
Yep i agree with the few comments above. Its a great idea but it needs more stuff for different types of riding. Keep the bit in the video for the lycra/carbon fibre crowd but then also have some dirt jumps, a skate/street area for the skinny jean lovers as well as a freeride area with drops and stuff. Could probably squeeze a small 4x track in as well. Job done
they have dirt jumps and stuff, idk why this vid shows so little but ive seen a lot more on youtube videos, and stuff , this place looks actually pretty cool and fun once u see everything they have to offer
Congratulations on the opening of what will hopefully be a repeat success of your first outing. I'm sure I speak for the majority of riders on here wishing Ray's a great first year up in WI.
We've had it here buddy. Esher bike park comes to mind straight away. It was professionally made and an awesome like play area but the insurance in the UK and the Health and safety police make it near on impossible to do anything.......
I really don't want to disrespect ray (or who ever the owner is), but this seems really boring and would envisage that most riders will be bored after two or three laps.
I think it looks pretty fun.... Its like a pump-track, you get realy addicted and want to ride it more and more... but its the same track what ever you try on it.
They have an indoor DJ section, it's wood, but it's the same principle. Cleveland has an actual dirt section.. A DH section would be next to impossible unless they could expand upward A LOT. Kinda need the "down" part to be able to have a DH section.
ben-rides-for-fun I live near rays in ohio, It never gets boring, on this video they just showed the xc, but there are also tons of jump lines too, for instance, this is the rythum room at rays in ohio espn.go.com/action/bmx/blog/_/post/4760339
Jump lines / slopestyley stuff it probably doesn't make much difference whether it's indoors or not... Apart from the fact you don't freeze your nuts off when you get out of the van!
I've been to rays in Ohio tons of times. Every time we go we spend the weekend and have a blast and it's never gotten old. There's tons of stuff to ride there.
I rode there all day today and it is awesome. The jump lines are fun, the street park has a quarter pipe that you could drop in from the second level and people were throwing back/front flips, 720s, etc... into the foam pit all day. These videos and pictures do not do the place justice, they only show the beginner section. There are going to be some cool videos of this place when the pros show up to film.
zorba73...there are 50 in England alone, and remember that I can get to Scotland or Wales within two and a half hours, bringing the total up to 253, so...yes. There are plenty. Ray's looks mint though.
yes, you used sarcasm to imply that you thought that there weren't any mountains in England. However, your assumptions were proved wrong and you now look thoroughly silly
I agree zorba73 was being a jerk but ben-rides-for-fun was saying Rays is stupid. So zorba73 should not be insulting but benridesforfun shouldnt be criticizing rays because its a awesome place to ride, and for the record, Europe definitely has mountains.
Jeeeeyzuz. That looks like the equivalent of shagging a blow up doll... no where near the real thing and not even a believable substitute... I imagine you'd feel just as disappointed after the ride as well
and obviously dont know anything about biking. just because you guys lack good indoor parks in the uk dont think that ours are the same. the rules over here on this kind of thing is a lot more relaxed
just because it says mountain in it dosnt mean its dh/free ride mountain biking. it is all of the aspects of biking in one building. Bmx, Dj, trials, xc and im sure you dh/free ride guys can find something there to. and road gaper your not even from the area so why are you complaining?
my comment was actually directed towards roadgaper. but would you care to explain how this is for lazy people? wisconsin get burried in snow during the winter so why shouldnt they have a spot to ride during the winter months. and what about bmxers? kinda hard to ride street and dirt during the winter, to icy and to much snow. park is impossible because of ice and snow. same goes for the guys that ride dirtjumpers. they need a spot to go and ride during the winter. how many times do you go out and dh in january? im guessing none
Thats not all they have dumbass.Look into something before you say its shitty and a waste of space. What would be a better use for the building?A office or some factory?
What are you talking about mark? It IS your responsibility to look into it more because a blog post isn't going to be able to cover every detail of the place without being a ridiculously long read with tons of photos. I don't know about you, but when I see something I'm interested in, I look up as much info as I can on the subject at hand to see if it would be right for me.
If you would take the time to actually you know READ..... "The video definitely does not show the entire facility" And as MANY others have said they have pump tracks, north shore features, jump lines, and a lot more.
Not sure if this is totally relevant cause it's a different park BUT I'm pretty sure this video is basicly what they have. www.pinkbike.com/video/173094 watch it if you still think it's lame then cool but you don't need to go on. I myself have never been to one of those since I'm in bc I just find a mountain haha but I think the don't look too bad would be alright to go with some friends if its a slow or to wet of a day.
This is a stupid idea! This is not what biking is about and it may have some cool park set up but build it outside! riding indoors is lame and for people that need to grow a sack and brave the weather.
Also if your trying to advertise a place don't put up a lame video! show pictures of people doing front/back flips not people riding across a piece of unchallenging timber.
You have no idea what your talking about. Rays was started so people who like to ride could do it year round. Cleveland and Wisconsin get hammered with snow ( i am talking about deep snow, not a dusting) and below freezing temperatures for 3 - 4 months out of the year. So an indoor park in areas like this are fantastic.
You're an idiot budlee. Outdoor places exist EVERYWHERE. There's a reason both places were built indoors and where they are, but you wouldn't understand that. Oh, and sorry but I'm going to trust Ray's ideas since they've been so successful he's been able to make a boatload of cash and expand into an entirely new facility hundreds of miles away. You on the other hand.....
zzzzzzzzzzz bored! They are not ever arguments. If it snows go put on a board or skis and if their is not enough to ski/board on then go ride your bike!
So first you say people should "grow a sack and brave the weather." But now you say they should just do a different sport. Contradicting yourself is fun. I think you just want something to throw a fit about.
How do you not see you blatantly contradicted yourself? Are you 12? make up your mind child. I sure love only having to go a short drive to ride XC, DJ, and north shore riding when it's snowing out. I also snowboard and ski in the winter. See, I get to do all of my favorite sports in the winter. Don't be mad.
Looks sick!!
They built it 100% and then had the city come in and make them install a HUGE fire wall on the entire south end of the building because 50 yards away is a working car dealership. They had to take out the pump track and 1/5 of the XC loop but will have those parts re-installed this month.

Got many mountains in England?
They're not really 'mountains' though, are they? Hills more like.
Yeh and you would hav a proper up-lift... haha
1) Say something stupid
2) Very quickly get proved wrong
3) Resort to insulting everyone to draw attention away from stupidity
