Hattie Harnden going from XC racer to national downhill champ in a handful of years is impressive stuff, not saying XC racers aren’t skilled, just the speed and technical terrain on downhill tracks is very different…well done Hattie.

A few years of EWS helped the transition as well. Very impressive to be so high level at 4 disciplines.

She's also twice the Elite Cyclocross National champion.......She doesn't get the praise she deserves.

On EWS, she often shines on the technical and rough stages - I'd say she is one of the best downhill riders on EWS next to Courdurier and Charre

How does Matt Walker do it, CrankWorks and BNDHC in one weekend!

 Well done Matt Walker(s)!!

How is Joe Smith not getting on to the World Champ Team? Guys literally flies under the radar, and is mr consistent

He was solid at the weekend, mechanicing for himself, nice to chat to, and properly fast!!

Been doing it for years and is a decent bloke too

Apart from the main race, DH is in a sorry state for Masters women and above. Seems like 2 in each category, surely they must be able to let a few more in these categories in to make it meaningful competition for the girls.

At least lump them together for one category that’s slightly bigger. It’s not their fault but it just ends up that they have hollow podiums that mean nothing.

Someone who was the slowest of all girls in every race category combined walked away with a second place… Not her fault but should we really be handing out participation trophies.

British cycling need to have more initiatives to get more women involved in the sport and help them develop to a higher level, even keeping a few reserve spots open in races in these categories.

British cycling never give the impression they're that bothered about MTB racing......

@Starch-Anton: I think that could be said about any national body

It didn't help that Ard Rock was on the same weekend. There were 60+ female riders there including Jess Stone, Becci Skelton and Katy Curd. Seems like bad planning by BC to put the DH national champs on the same weekend as the biggest enduro race in the UK, but BC really doesn't seem to give a **** about downhill and enduro.

if Fort William track remains as physical as before, perhaps your british champion gets a shot to that Jersey .. lets see the changes to the track ! Congrats to Hattie.

Where on earth was Bernard this weekend? Not with the rest of his team at Crankworx, not here, then where?
  • 13 0
Legit my first thought. Is he on strike after Hardline?
  • 4 0
@pathopkins: He was so hurt from that (emotionally), but why not race his nationals, and snub Redbull at Crankworx at the same time.

 Prolly resting for world champs

@pathopkins: resting to risk his life on ft bill... the year of the tiger.

Redbull & Rob should broadcast ALL the National Champ races.

 Way to go Aimi K!

Awesome weekend, track was also worthy of a national champs, about as much atmosphere as a graveyard tho, weather made it very interesting

Half the track was fun, half was utter pish. Actually 1/3 was good. Not a fan of rut riding across a hill then a long wet field. (Bring back Dunkeld and let's get back to the gnarr)

@betsie: I wasn't riding, I had the pleasure of cleaning the bike every run and service sat Eve ✌

@antiquesroadtrip: the bike cleaning after every run was awful. Racing and doing the bike every run was the most fun I had since walking into a field of nettles when I was younger. Still washing kit now!
Fair play to the parents who do the spannering for their young ones. That's devotion.

Yeah man, kits still shitty lol, we had a good result so it was well worth it, off to the ixs this week so that will be fun

@antiquesroadtrip: LOL we had a disaster race run for the lad in youth. All weekend cleaning kit, cleaning bikes, new pads, stripdown, new riding kit, cleaning goggles, rain, more rain, wind... And he had a nightmare... Gutted for him. It's a tough sport at times.

@weeksy59: I'd say that's the toughest cat to aswell, likewise never had to clean so much kit and sort a bike so much, glen coe won't be so bad

@antiquesroadtrip: Yeah it's insanely competitive in there.. He did well in Seeding and put himself in 32nd. But slipped off in sector 2 into a tree on race run, waited for the next rider to pass him, who promptly fell off 10m after where he waited LOL.
We've got Enduro Nationals before Glencoe. If you're ever bored in the paddock do come find us and have a beer Smile
This weekend also cost me over £5000 as he's now got a 2023 Session lol. Whether he'll be racing his new Session or the GT at Glencoe i have no idea yet.
