Selected by Sterling Lorence - It's getting to be that time of year....the snow is melting off the ski areas and we as mountain bikers are about to get our lift time. Are we ever lucky that this evolution has happened. Can't wait! Beautiful shot, well composed, good focal length and awesome mood created with the silhouette in the fog. To take this one off the charts, there would be a bit of trail structure/berm just visible down at the bottom right some where. Banger!
POD's lately seem to lean more toward the artsy side than the sick riding shot side. A pic of someone having a good time riding is what POD should be about. Comments like "good focal length," and "well composed"? Come on, is this a mtb site or a photography site? And whats with Sterling's always letting the photog know what they could have done to make the shot better? Most of the people who take these pictures aren't professionals and if they are this is not the forum for critiquing them - we should be commenting on the rider in the shot. Just my 2c - comment however you like.
I don't mind having the artsy side of our sport but I'm getting a little tired of reading the caption from the man who choses the photo when it mentions something that could have been added to make the picture better. I have really enjoyed the last couple pods though.
Then don't read the caption. Sterling can't help it, its his life, hes always thinking about it even if he's not around mtb's, they also say why these shots are great! And this is a mountain biking site. if the day comes when the P.O.D. is of a nice sunset from the top of Whistler, then ok.... but all the P.O.D's are shots of incredible biking But I'm into the photography side of it too..... just saying SWEET SHOT!
People can bitch all they want about the POD. Thing is, there will be another one tomorrow.
As for this one, it IS fantastic. Anyone that has honestly raced DH and has ridden a chair lift for it, not walked up the hill in your back yard, knows exactly the thought/mood you get into. This photo is perfect and represents it flawlessly.
This looks like some sorta mountain bike horror movie with all that fog... instead of some guy in a mask chasing after people with a chainsaw it'd be some anti-mountain bike tree hugger deflating tires and messing with brake levers. Scary...
yeah i love scotland for downhill trails and stuff but i can only think of one trail with a ski lift (fort will). There are loads of others which are great but riding up to the top annoys me. I should be canadian...
i know what you mean dude. I live in fort bill and for most of the trails the push up is worth it and its usually short anyway. Glen Coe has a ski lift as well. Everyone should be Canadian, would make the world a better place
I've been on a chairlift when i went snowboarding once (i sucked) and one of the times i was headed to the top of the mountain and the sky was gray and snow was falling everywhere. just thought i'd say that.
