The album artwork that inspired the frame
Not all custom paint jobs are for pros; Aberdeenshire local Struan Cruickshank had set his sights on having a custom paint job for his new Jeffsy build. He had a few different ideas on what he could do and after some discussion we narrowed it down to an Iron Maiden tribute, and settled on a motif from the Dance of Death album cover laid out over the entirety of the frame.

With the pandemic happening, media blasting the frame wasn't an option so many hours of toil with the not-as-good-as-it-used-to-be branded paint stripper were involved, followed by primer, and base coat before any artwork is applied. Probably half the hours involved were in removing the factory paint.

Lots of masking is part of every custom paint job, and all the lines on a geometric design like this need to be measured out and matched on either side to the millimetre. It's not unusual to spend 5 or 6 hours masking for about ten minutes of spraying paint.

He really is The Trooper for doing all of that. Did he finish it a 2 minutes to midnight? He must have had practice to do such a good job, they certainly weren't Wasted Years.

Now all that's left for him to do is ride to the hills.

Before i say anything else, i love it. Shame it's the worst maiden album cover in existence, thankfully the best part of it was used as the influence... Most of the maiden album covers are Killers.

should have done a brave new world themed bike in my opinion, there's so much potential with the blue/purple clouds, eddy's face and lightning .. But dance of death is clearly one of my favorite Maiden song so even though I don't like this paintjob, props for keeping the iron alive. UP THE IRONS

@maxgod: personally I'd have gone for Killers or 7th son but to do either of them justice on a bike would be pretty tough and probably cost about 50% of the bike's value again!

@Erskine-Atom: Killers is my favorite ..
could have just did this Smile all eddie's

the detail in somewhere in time is really insane when you start looking closely at everything going on in the background..

A Megadeth inspired paint job with perhaps Countdown To Extinction so you could name the bike High Speed Dirt would be neat. A Slayer bike would be even better but half of the Rocky Mountain owners already have that covered.

More metal in biking is a really good thing, but not really what I would want from custom paint job!
May be back in black is more my taste?

If you mean aluminium, steel and titanium yes. The musical genre is already way over represented and frankly it makes mountain biking a lot less sexy. Change my mind.

The best maiden album cover is the orange sleeve of the soundhouse tapes. Which I have a very carefully preserved version of, right here. If you know, then you know.

Megadeth - Rust in Piece would be a killer inspiration for a custom paint job.

I plasti-dipped some Mustang wheels once.
Should I send a photo to a car website so they can make a story about it?
