@Palardy: well, you can just do the same with a mechanical dropper, no? At least the vecnum, Bike yoke and one up I had were all easy to dis/connect if enough slack cable is available

@joni0001984: have a welded steel main frame cracked. Exchanged the main frame with a brazed one….lets see. So many cracked carbon frames out there from big companys. They know there job for sure, but they do cut manufacturing costs for margin. simple as that for mainstream stuff.

@TDMAN: Got you on this. Riding a Rohloff, a Effigear gearbox, an E-Cargo bike with shimano ep8 + shimano gearhub and standard 1x11 shifting, I would say: The e-bike with cheap gear hub feels shit (with motor turned out), very noticable drag. However, at least it is extreamly robust, appart from the gearhub cracking around, ha! The rohloff works much better. In this direction I think combining shifting and motor like pinion, valeo or intradrive will work best. I'm quite happy with the effigear gearbox. There is drag, but having the chain straight without an idler is super nice in the mud. Chain stays clean and smooth. Instead, I'm running lighter tires which compenstes a little bit for the drag. Getting used to it anyways. Currently I would never ever combine a motor with a chain shifter in the back. Thats just... nope. The shimano gear hub (nexus 5 speed) is no alternative either :D

@garthpool: well, it is still a nice singlespeed-like strait chainline. So, there is already an advantage in mud etc having that. Drag is not extreme, much less than the difference between tires, or being tired. For mountainbiking i put much more power during climbing compared to transfers. With the high gear I can reach 25kmh, bit more with fast spinning. So thats more on the easy side… and no issue with any drag :) I also have a bike with effigear gearbox, however the drag there is noticeable, not huge though to be fair.

@garthpool: you can have the schlumpf drive in both ways, gears for high or low speeds (speed drive 1:1.65 or mountain drive 2.5:1). Having the gears for high speed is nice for a folding bike e.g. to avoid huge chain rings. My dual speed mtb is running a schlumpf speed drive. 27chainring up front, 22 in rear, good for uphill.

@Webradders: Geo chart on your hp is still missleading, or wrong.

@hamncheez: "Schlumpf speed drive" and "Kappstein Doppio", though not up to date for modern mountainbike standards. I have dinglespeed enduro hardtail with a schlumpf drive. 1:1.6 range. Looks way cleaner than a Hammerschmidt by the way.
