Video: Grim Donut Part 3 - We Made It Less Terrible
@EdSawyer: doesnt the new one come with an angle set so its a degree steeper at neutral but could be a degree slacker at full slack?

Review: Rossignol Heretic - Not Quite Ready for Prime Time
@watchtower: no not at all, but i guess the folks around here that im kinda thinking of dont use it so hard or enough that its less likely to be a problem. Theyre also happy to pay to have their bike maintained. Maybe someone who rides 20 times a year, those poor tolerances become a problem after 5 years. Someone who rides 200 times a year, maybe thats a problem in 6 months. That was kind of what i was thinking anyway

Review: Rossignol Heretic - Not Quite Ready for Prime Time
I ride sometimes with an older guy who runs the previous version of the bike, and from what i can tell this new one is just in line with the previous one. Great on paper, lots of nice soft suspension, great parts for the price. Just a little wonky though and a visibly poor pedaling bike. I feel like its a great bike for maybe older or more casual type riders, but wont hold up or be desirable to those riding harder or more frequently

Throwback Thursday: 9 Bikes Turning 10 in 2023
@vinay: if i were worried about a smaller mech, id just go with 1x10 and do like an 11-42 with a 30 tooth. Which is exactly whats on my fatbike, and honestly i like it alot more than the mostly slx 12 speed on my other bike. seriously though, all the rattling and clanking and dropped chains doesnt bother you about using a front derailleur? again, makes sense on a road bike where nothing dynamic is happening anyway

@CSharp: you make a good point. front derailleurs seem reasonable on a road bike, where theres no reason to be dropping the chain and an even wider range is helpful. my fatbike in 2016 came with a 2x10, and ill certainly admit that it was kinda nice being able to move to a way harder or easier gear with one click. The 2x10 wasnt nearly as bad as people make it out to be. that said, overall, 1x10 was wayyyy better. the 2x10 had one small upside, compared to everything else about a single ring setup being better. but again, like you said, front derailleurs are useful only on road bikes, so im not sure why we're even talking about them here.

@CSharp: im glad they still exist for all three people that like them. Bikes have gotten alot better by not needing to fit them though.
